The PT teams are done with racing in January!
Their only stage race was in Qatar, a mix of mainly sprinters and time trialists, that did well. Then Badaling for the puncheurs.
And a couple of teams have the additional PTHC Apex Mountain Classic and are 2rd`s ahead.
Basically all but cobblers got something this month.
Badaling International was the season start and was a real shocker for many. A breakaway rider stealing it in Cayo. Guess all but SN were not amused, at least not those that had a top puncheur.
Hugo Boss with Ponzi, Grieg with Bakelants, Moser (Sagan), Air France (Boasson Hagen), Evonik (Skujins) were the big scorers here next to EA Vesuvio as top performing team.
The Tour of Qatar then offered mainly for the top sprinters and it`s Moser with Bewley taking the big points. Though it could have been more if wildcard team Iberia hadn`t won the GC with Degenkolb. Some other teams with decent showing here such as Air France (Kennaugh), Evonik (Van Stayen), Festina (Coquard).
Normally Aegon as well as 5th best team scoring wise! But with their lineup it should have been more in the Iberia/Moser 400-500 range due to missing stage points and neither a high GC.
Last but not least Apex Mountain Classic. Almost half of the teams went there and got some high scoring as well as the PCT teams barely couldn`t match their strength with some excemptions.
eBuddy taking the win with Dombrowski sees them also top of the race ranking followed by T-Mobile with runner-up Taaramae.
Then some smaller below 100 scores such as Tinkoff with Kritskiy or again Moser with a strong Barguil descent performance.
Counting this all together it`s not a surprise to see Moser being top of the list (again). They scored in the upper half of each race and already Qatar alone would have been enough to be in the top2 rankings. The other races basically give them a nice gap already.
Air France as runner-up as best promoted team neither a surprise with good performances in all 3 events, while Evonik and Hugo Boss follow next without participating in Apex even, while T-Mobile having consistent scores everywhere and deserve a top5 early on.
At the bottom Gazelle being a bit isolated already but still enough time obviously. Then Berg, Desigual, RBC, Puma, Bennelong being very close toghether and same for Isostar basically as the last team below 200 points! Several of them though have a big star in the background, that is yet to start the season (Phinney, Herklotz, Spilak...).
| | Team | Total | RD | Bad | Qat | Apex | | 1 | | Moser - Sygic | 709 | 10 | 173 | 456 | 80 | | 2 | | Air France - KLM | 488 | 10 | 145 | 277 | 66 | | 3 | | Evonik - ELKO | 436 | 8 | 147 | 289 | 0 | | 4 | | Hugo Boss | 407 | 8 | 217 | 190 | 0 | | 5 | | T-Mobile | 391 | 10 | 116 | 115 | 160 | | 6 | | EA Vesuvio | 386 | 8 | 301 | 85 | 0 | | 7 | | eBuddy | 354 | 10 | 55 | 127 | 172 | | 8 | | Festina - Dexia | 323 | 8 | 69 | 254 | 0 | | 9 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 320 | 8 | 120 | 200 | 0 | | 10 | | Aker - MOT | 281 | 10 | 55 | 173 | 53 | | 11 | | Volvo acc. by Spotify | 275 | 10 | 40 | 198 | 37 | | 12 | | Team UBS | 250 | 10 | 130 | 50 | 70 | | 13 | | Grieg - Eftel | 244 | 8 | 176 | 68 | 0 | | 14 | | Team Tinkoff | 238 | 10 | 40 | 106 | 92 | | 15 | | Porto - Prio | 220 | 8 | 60 | 160 | 0 | | 16 | | Isostar Slovenija | 189 | 8 | 113 | 76 | 0 | | 17 | | Bennelong - Mitchelton | 173 | 8 | 45 | 128 | 0 | | 18 | | Team Puma - SAP | 172 | 8 | 126 | 46 | 0 | | 19 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 172 | 10 | 40 | 115 | 17 | | 20 | | Desigual | 167 | 10 | 40 | 127 | 0 | | 21 | | Berg Cycles | 160 | 8 | 40 | 120 | 0 | | 22 | | Gazelle | 118 | 8 | 63 | 55 | 0 |
Individually Sam Bewley early on shows that he is a threat for the crown with a high quality Tour of Qatar and with guaranteed points to be added in the cobbled events, he will be the rider to beat clearly!
Kennaugh with a surprisingly strong start. For him it`s to show that he can perform like this all season long while Godoy most likely has scored most of his year already with his Badaling coup!
Coquard as next sprinter, that obviously dominate after Qatar but in Dombrowski and Taaramae two more potential division winners are in the top10 already. Same goes for Ponzi and Bakelants. Though for them it will be hard with the competition around to dominate the hills as much as e.g. Bewley in the cobbles or Taaramae in the mountains.

Must admit, having Swift only as 4th best team scorer after the Tour of Qatar is not ideal.
At least Galloping stepped up, Groenewegen took U25 points, which will be nice bonusses this season and De Bie did okay in Badaling and hopefully is having a top scorer season for my team on high level. Though feels like I should be runner-up for now with a big dropback then in February onwards.
Moser is the team to beat from the beginning. Bewley and Sagan are simply guaranteed scorers while new addition and training object Barguil also already performs nicely even though Apex surely was one of the most suited races for him all year. But I see him as consistent top10-15 finisher and KoM hunter, so scoring should be nice for him and maybe better as Velits would have done, even with a great GT in a weak startlist. Having more riders scoring already for them such as Baska is a nice bonus for them obviously. |

Great to have the Badaling stage secure a better start than could be expected, though Qatar should have given a little bit more.
Too early to read much into it, but a handy lead that Moser have built over this month.

Much higher than I expected as I felt both Rein and TVG could've done better, quite happy with this!
Moser the team to beat here, and I am afraid they will just build up an unbeatable lead after the major classics

starting by seeing the positive side at least this month we are not in the last ..
With the exception of Van Winden the whole team has been a total nullity so far. In the next races we will have to raise the stop or it will be very difficult to leave the last place.

Looking forward to the cobblesraces coming up, those are the races we really need to deliver this season
Moser taking a big advantage already. |

Not great, not bad. Good performance in Badaling, while Qatar was a bit below my expectations. In the end a decent start. Hope to see Bakelants steady in that top 10 for a while!

Not a bad month. Could have been better if Grosu had actually showed up for Qatar.
We are not going to feature much now except the odd result from Boswell and Gerts until Giro, so I expect us to be in the drop zone by then, but after that we will pick up again

Decent start. Look forward to future races now!
Moser with a great start, could lead the rankings for some time now!

Before the season we had an expectation to be 3-5th at this time, but 8th is OK I guess... Time to fall into relegation battle.

Seeing EA Vesuvio is only ahead due to the Badaling surprise, eBuddy and T-Mobile only due to having 2rd more in Apex, 5th was a realistic aim and is about where your team is right now. |

Awesome to get an update already and its a very good one for me. 2nd best scoring team in Qatar couldnt really be expected and Badaling was solid as well. Being third at this point with Air France only ahead due to Apex is fantastic and is probably the best January we've had since my pct season.
EDIT: 10 in top 100 is amazing

Thank you for the update, roturn!
This kind of confirms the feeling it has been a rather slow start. Ciolek did good in Qatar, but still a race where it felt like we missed out on bigger points due to a worse epilogue than expected. Both Badaling and Apex were bad compared to expectations, but hopefully it's not an omen of what is to come the rest of the season.
Especially Guldhammer should do decent, or at least that's what I hope, eventhough it looks like I picked the wrong GT for him. Also looking forward to see where Trentin is in the pecking order on the cobbles now, with GVA's decline. At least the fight for podium places should be closer
Very nice start for Moser, especially if Barguil's performance in Apex is something he'll build on in other races he does. If both him and Hirt can do better than what you would expect only looking at the mountain stat, there is no question Moser is the team to beat this year, and also very unlikely any team will be able to do it. |

Happy with my team's start of the season, but it is not as bright start as in the last year. After 3 races last year I had 836 points, this year I have only 709. On the other way this year way more riders are able to score points for me, at least so far.

This was always going to be a rough first month, but the bad Badaling did hurt. Plenty of time to recover though.

Well Apex wasn't a big surprise really. Only the Vesuvio result was somewhat of a surprise.

*breathe*, *breathe*, *breathe*, *try not to exaggerate*
WE'RE BACK AMONG THE BEST TEAMS IN THE WORLD, BABY!
Okay. On a more serious note - we got lucky with Kennaugh in Qatar, Hagen slightly underperformed in Badaling, Sicard somewhat as expected in Apex.
Looking great so far, but it'd be quite stupid to think and expect it to look the same in October. Long way to go. |

Below average start, but it certainly could have been worse with Zabel having a pretty good Qatar and Maksimov flopping. Really this season will be about if Tenorio can save us or send us back down. We will ride or die with the Vuelta.
