Tour of East Java Preview
A two stage race meant for the climbers. The first stage is the warm-up, allowing the sprinters to have a chance to shine. The second will be decisive for the GC.
| Name | MON | STA | RES | ACC | | Amador | 84 | 77 | 74 | 72 | | Marquez | 80 | 70 | 78 | 80 | | Henao Montoya | 82 | 75 | 79 | 73 | | Intxausti | 82 | 78 | 78 | 70 | | Denifl | 84 | 75 | 71 | 65 | | Barguil | 79 | 77 | 77 | 75 | | Duarte | 80 | 74 | 76 | 73 | | Nazaret | 80 | 71 | 78 | 72 | | Berhane | 81 | 77 | 74 | 68 | | Valls | 79 | 78 | 77 | 72 | | Quintana | 81 | 77 | 76 | 65 | | Shikai | 81 | 74 | 76 | 65 |
Most of the top climbers of the PCT will be out in force looking to take the stage and the GC win on Stage 2.
With his incredible climbing ability, Amador is top favourite to take the win in this race. He has had a great season so far and will be looking to end on a high note.
With his exellent combination of good climbing skills and fast acceleration, Marquez is another rider who will be fancying his chances in this race. He too has had an excellent season so far, leading his team towards the top tier of MG.
A tough fight for the GC sees both Henao Montoya and Intxausti as two more top candidates. Both are similarly powerful climbers, with Henao's superior acceleration offset by Intxausti's better energy stats.
Denifl's poor backups might mean once again he is short of the win, but on a good day, he could be a podium contender in this race.
Duarte leads Novatek's charge. The Colombian has had an up and down season so far. His team will be hoping he can have an 'up' when most required.
Nazaret is part of Berg's usual two-pronged strategy for the mountains. Barguil is a definite top 5 contender for the almost already relegated Ticos. Berhane's lack of acceleration could see him lose out a few positions in the final sprint to the line.
Valls is the best of the CT competition, his excellent overall abilities gives him a good shot at a top 10 finish to keep his team's promotion hopes, and his individual CT title hopes, alive.
Neither Quintana nor Shikai have had a season to remember so far but this race gives them a last chance to end on a sweet note.
| Name | MON | STA | RES | ACC | | Brenes | 79 | 73 | 80 | 70 | | Garby | 79 | 71 | 76 | 70 | | Brajkovic | 79 | 74 | 77 | 69 | | Kiserlovski | 80 | 72 | 75 | 66 | | Costagli | 79 | 70 | 71 | 67 | | Contador | 79 | 71 | 74 | 65 | | Krasnoperov | 80 | 68 | 69 | 61 | | Anacona | 79 | 75 | 72 | 61 |
Some decent names in the outsiders list. The fact that this race had only two RDs meant that a lot of climbers favoured this race to pick up important points, so the riders mentioned in the above table were pushed down to the outsiders.
| Name | SPR | ACC | | Kupfernagel | 80 | 80 | | Lavoine | 80 | 78 | | Meyer | 80 | 76 | | Serebriakov | 80 | 77 | | Reinhardt | 79 | 84 | | Hayakawa | 79 | 79 | | Vingerling | 79 | 79 | | Bertilsson | 79 | 77 |
Stage 1 offers the chance to one of the fast men to claim a stage win and wear the jersey overnight. Not a bad reward to aim for! Kupfernagel's combination of speed and acceleration makes him the favourite to win the fist stage. However, the sprinters are too close to each other in terms of ability to really be sure who might take the win. A couple of teams in the dogfight for promotion in their respective divisions, Reddit and Fablok, would be hoping their sprinter can get a win and bring the GC lead bonus home with them.

Had two RDs left and decided to take them here. The plan was to bring Rowe for the sprint, but forgot about the Barbados clash, so sent him there instead.
Just want to see ourselves in the break now, but expecting a zero pointer.
Will be interesting to see how Amador and UBS do here (and Berg). Should be a very important race, both for the PCT title and the individual standings between EBH and Amador.

I wonder if Serebriakov will find another way to mess up the sprint Top-10 in both stages is the goal here

The goal here is a 8th place which secures Valls' Individual Crown (he needs 22 points. It won't easy, but with the form that Valls has shown all year i'm confident he can at least get that 8th place, and why not, dream of a top5 if he has a good day in the mountain stage

Surprised to see so little sprinters making it here. Thought some of them would avoid Barbados. Perhaps I should've brought a bigger leadout? Oh well, let's see. It might end up with a break winning anyway.
As for the mountains, we've got nothing to do here. Our climbers simply weren't signed with C1 races in mind. We'll need a break to score big time, but with our rivals having even weaker lineups, we should be able to sit back and celebrate every point we scrape up. |

I like the weak sprint field, at least Reinhardt has a chance. Amador is the strongest on paper but I think Marquez is very dangerous in a race like this.

I'm supporting all the teams except one, so I think we know who will overperform his way onto the podium.
Also, go Xero.

Not sure if we have anything to grab here. Very weak sprinters startlist, which was not expected, so Bertillsson getting a top 10 would be really nice. Top 5 would be even better.
If Garby puts out a ToA like performance here on the mountains, a top 15 is certainly possible. An even higher chance if Contador actually helps him, which I doubt. of course, they'll probably both crack and finish outside the top 50.
I'm not sure why the hell Juul-Jensen is here. That is truly a mystery. As a season planner I am just god awful. No idea why I would do this. hey, maybe he'll do a long range move or something and steal victory.
Any guys in the break would be nice too. Overall I just want some kind of success for the team. it's been a tough back half to the season.

Our only bet is an attack from Shapira, much in the style Berard won this race for us, for us to get a good GC result. Lavoine for a stage win I Hope

Outsiders to win both stages, but if we somehow won both I'd be very, very, very happy. As always that wont happen though.

Yeah, I dunno guys... Can anyone check the DB to make sure Monfort doesn't have 85 FTR? And then 72FL Meyer with the perfect positioning despite doing nothing with a full leadout train before.
This luck is a bit over the top. Sorry PCT guys. See you there next year.
Thanks Abhishek |

Reddit's late season is just awesome. Monfort keeps on beasting with breakaways and now Meyer starts to deliver as well. An Aussie win is always cool, so I won't complain.
Terrible luck for UBS and some other teams though Something you never want to happen and it's a shame Amador won't be able to score (big) points here. If he's not injured, he might at least win the final stage, but I can't see him gaining back that much time for something notable in the GC. I feel sorry for all managers involved.

Good ride by Caldeira. Picking up some points here is better than expected, though I almost started hoping for even more looking at his great position going in to the last kilometers.
Really a pity about Amador and others crashing and losing time. Probably means that we secure the PCT title and the individual standings, but not the way I wanted that to happen.

Well that's a bummer, but if Amador is going to crash out of contention in one of his races this season, I'd much prefer it to be this one!
