Ronde van Vlaanderen Beloften
Note: The Startlist above is for the U23 Puncheur Classic - the lineups should be the same, but obviously the team leaders etc are different!

would be nice to see the leaders thoug, but no matter what: go Per!!
Ewan the obvious bet for the win, van der Poel, Spengler, Gaviria and Per the challengers.

Ewan has history in U23 Cobbles, see last years WC He could do well here, but honestly this will be such an open race it's hard to tell.
Wolverine better on the cobbles, hope he goes well.

Old Ronde Van Vlaanderen! <3
This could be an interesting race. Spengler is lacking backup stats for those 77 cobbles.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

As with Ludvigsson and viking in the hilly classic, the preview lists Jansen as one of the favourites, but he's not on the startlist.
He ( Grøndahl Jansen) is born in 1994, same as Ludvigsson, so therefore outside the U23 class. But so is for example Mohoric, Eiking and Ewan. So what is exactly the cut off in these races?
Anyway, Wurtz and SKA (both born in 1994 btw) on the startlist here as well. Fancy them to have rather free roles here too.

Gotta admit I'm not the biggest fan of an expanded u23 calendar (probably a rather unpopular opinion ^^). The calendar has been cut down a lot and especially the ct division could have used the reporter ressources that are used for these events for keeping a slightly larger calendar than they do have now.
Its still nice to have a team for myself without having to share it with others
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Poor youngsters who are forced to ride over cobbles...

Biggest race of the season for us, U23 World Champion Kasperkiewicz is probably the favourite, as Spengler and Orue cannot go up hills at all and they all should be interested in avoiding a sprint.
Behind him, we probably have one of the better supporting casts, Kolev is a good cobbles domestique and Pedersen is our card to play if it does come down to a sprint finish with a good cobbles stat as well, Veyhe, Rekita and Bengston can give early flat support, while Kanepejs and Padun aren't bad on the hills if we need them.
Aside from Spengler and Orue's one-sided cb stats, Ewan, Herklotz, VDP, Gaviria and Per are all interesting challenges - and I certainly wouldn't mind if Novardianto won.

Per Per Per
Allegaert might be interesting to watch.
Focus on Gazelle, Isostar and Jayco again, coz that's where my riders, loanees included, are.

Understanding your concern.
But it`s 4 classics only the whole season, which shouldn`t really slow anything down. Plus Avenir, which was cut down by 2 stages. So in total just 2 stages more with the U23.
Wonder who has added the "Beloften" instead of U23 Cobble Classic?
Not liking my calendar name?
Regarding the startlist I didn`t even realize Orue was one of the top riders. Probably as a) just on loan with me and b) no Aegon team colours in the U23.
Would be nice to see actually a challenge of cobblers Spengler, Orue, Kasperkiewitz and sprinters Ewan and Gaviria plus the allrounder van der Poel being the one to get rid of for all. |

Suspect Ewan could win this on a very good day, though, it depends a lot on how Spengler is racing this, and how strong he actually is, I think.
After all, that gap of 3 in the cobble stat should prove decisive, but his backup stats could still make this interesting. And if he doesn't get away, then it's anyone's race, making me think Ewan can take this from a rather big group. |

Too bad that Herklotz wasn't just quite attentive enough to avoid wasting energy early on, considering this might have been the last time he rode on cobbles in his career. Maybe he'll return to the Ronde one day just for fun.
8th is still fine, on track for my personal goal of him finishing Top 10 in all U23 races this year (yes including the sprint one ).

Awful race for us, but a very enjoyable report, thanks jph! Congrats to Meiji and Kuroeda, a very cool win!
