April saw several opportunities to score. The most in the PTHC stage race Tour of California, which is a big mix of hills and mountains making it a very hard predictable race.
Then HC events in Vancouver, Dutch Food Valley and Philadelphia offered scoring potential for sprinters and climbers.
South Africa, De Panne, Nakhon and Betonexpressz then as remaining C1 events.
Coming to the race by race scoring.
California as PTHC always is a gamble as PT teams are going there as well. And indeed the PT team Hugo Boss has won but the top scoring team is Team UBS with Amador from the PCT with 316.
Also Carlsberg with Juul-Jensen had a great 257 points while Compal at the bottom of the standings had their best race this season.
Regarding the promotion candidates Newton did pretty okay with 117 points as well.
Vancouver was yet another race for UBS and Amador. He started the season with a big boom. 405 points for the team, ahead of the 341 pts by Berg Cycles and their depth mountain squad.
Meiji, Minions, Generali and Eritel probably need the mention as well with a decent performance just like Indosat, which are also big scorers this month.
Dutch Food went to the Kraftwerk 1-2 Cavendish and Maikin and hence big scoring by them while Philadelphia was won by Isostar`s Kump, which makes them with their best race this month while Lierse also had a great race.
Less big scoring in hte C1 events but 146 pts by Podium Ambition in De Panne is pretty good. Just like 130 for Newton there.
South Africa saw Newton again scoring big and justifying their pole position as Van Garderen won and delivered most of the 239 points. Generali with 134 pts following with quite a gap already.
Nakhon with the Minions taking 91 pts as best team ahead of Indosat`s 58 and Betonexpressz again Indosat with 104 and Lierse 69 and Novatek`s 72 other good scorers.
In total this means Newton Foundation remains in the top spot and while they had a great month, another team is still close. Berg Cycles despite not racing in California being just 54 pts behind them in 2nd and used 2rd less in total.
Then two teams with a huge step forward. UBS from a relegation spot onto the podium. Well done. Incredible 65% of their season total was scored this month and it shows how important Amador is for them.
And also Indosat up to 4th from 10th. Not as big a jump but still impressive.
This means some teams had to drop down. Fablok as 5th at least remains in the promotion area while Isostar and Grieg follow just behind.
PPRD they are in advantage over Indosat but also Grieg a huge danger as they used the least of the top teams.
Generali, Lierse, Podium Ambition and Eritel form the upper midfield where also Orange can be named as a team with higher expectations, while Carlsberg as 13th surely did better than many thought.
Further down Compal, Ticos, Haute Route and Valio really don`t look very good and could need good results soon to not totally fall behind.
Novatek as best of the relegation area teams at least isn`t that far behind the Minions, while also MOL, Meiji, Netia, Ferrero or SPAR as next aren`t far off.
And just to name them all, Euskaltel for the moment is save but has used the most race days of the 2nd half and hence can`t be too sure yet.

Individually Boasson Hagen lost his lead and drops down to 3rd. Passing him is Van Garderen the exact other way and is the new leader of the PCT ranking but more impressing Amador, who jumped from 584th to 2nd. Not bad.
Behind most remains similar or equal. Kwiatkowski from 2nd to 6th with biggest drop while Intxausti from 36th to 10th made a nice jump forward just like Juul-Jensen from 14th to 9th and maybe the most surprising i the top10.
A bit further down Goss now is the best pure sprinter as he did pass Guerao in the top20 area.

Nice to see Flügel doing well Despite a much stronger puncheur-field than last year
Orange the big dissapointment I would say, would at least have expected their projected points to be better.

At least we're not in the PPRD relegation zone. Dunkerque might pull us out of relegation, hopefully for good

Philly saved our month a little. We need to push hard in May, as it could well be our last strong month this season.

Chipping away and gathering a steady stream of points in most races we enter. It's a good buffer behind us to the relegation scrap, and that remains in projections as well. That's a very positive sign because our aim was to avoid going back to the CT. Well into the heart of the season and things are just about staying on track.
Individually things aren't so hot, with Marcus incredibly underperforming but solid rides from Thomas, Yates and Talansky keeping us afloat as the sprinters put in some points fairly regularly. The "sign a big scorer" plan really hasn't worked but we definitely increased our depth.

How can I possibly complain? Sure, we're 13th, but I can't help but notice that do to our light first half, we are actually 5th in ppRd.
Fortunately, a lot of though later races are Juul-Jensen classics, which he has shown to over perform in. Unfortunately, a lot of those other race days are the Tour of America, where I can't expect much scoring. So... we'll see. Obviously I don't expect early season results to hold up with that kind of schedule. But hopefully, we've done well enough here that by scoring modestly, we can hold on to our real time ranking mid pack.
Gotta just quickly thank my heroes this season, Juul Maar and Appollowino for stepping above and beyond, especially at the PTHC level, and putting us in the position we're in almost by themselves, while our cobbled squad has floundered. Very important for their renewals I bet.
Thanks for the update!

The view at the top is relaxing, but wished we had increased our lead this month after all the results we piled up. Yet, Berg and UBS still closed the gap. Winning the division is probably out of the question unless the decision to go to the Tour of America really pays off. But, all I really want is promotion anyways. Also go go TVG leading the individual rankings.

Climbing up to 9th after a decent month. Our pprd is still quite low, but it's points we already have. Cobbled race were a bit meh, so we need Waeytens to step up now.
As always, thanks for the update!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

We've been average all throughout the season so far and the fact we're 18th in PpRD shows that. Rarely have my riders performed better than they were supposed to do, and when that happened it has only just made up for some more annoying underperformances because of some incredibly timely bad forms (see Ulissi in TDU, Roglic in Eritrea etc.). A lot of our best races are gone unfortunately and it's harder and harder to imagine we'll promote, unless we start overperforming here and there instead of being disappointing race after race.
I've said it in every thread, each race hasn't been bad by itself but some circumstances have made us score less than we should have (except Pologne basically), and all those points have added up clearly.
This month in particular:
- We scored like 100 points less than we could have in Vancouver, mostly because of awful form by Roglic in the prologue and the fact he can't help but get dropped in short TTTs despite his good FL and TT;
- We could have scored 100+ more points in South Africa if Ulissi wasn't a useless piece of shit in TTTs and the AI wasn't so awful AND if he managed to win a fucking sprint as he rightfully should with his 83 STA and 74 SP.
And yeah as I said this season was basically just like this throughout. Hopefully we improve. Thanks roturn for the update and write-up.

Jumping into the top 5 is a surprise to be sure, but we've used quite a few more RDs than most other teams so we'll probably drop back down to a comfortable 10-15th and sit there til the seasons end most likely.
Still quite surprised to be so high considering that we've had a pretty lacklustre (even pretty shit) season and our top riders, possibly with the exception of Goss, have been extremely underwhelming. Intxausti as 10th in the Individual standings is certainly strange, besides a stage win he hasn't managed a significant top-5 all season. Would love to see where we'd be if he'd had a couple of better performances.
Thanks for the update.

Out of the relegation zone
We are entering a long period without Úran racing and we've used a bit more RD than those around us. I feel we will be battling until the end of the season, and it most likely depends on Betancourt on our side. He hasn't had too many racedays yet but they have been disappointing so far.
Thanks roturn for the update

It's a dire read, but not that surprising seeing how Lo Cicero have transformed from an absolute top sprinter to top 10 material on a good day.

Isostar has 1178 points. Only one team is projected to finish with less than that. You are doomed!

Isostar have slightly relegated from the promotion spots, next stop the entire PCT Have to say Go Carlsberg for promo, you can do this

I like to see that the team has moved up to 14th in the table, I am aware that our PPRD does see ya drop down the standings a fair bit but I'll take the points on the board.

As said in our HQ, it was a decent month. No races for EBH, and still no counting ones in May, but good to see that we are still in touch. Not so much liking that we have used the fewest RDs of the teams in the top - always better to have them in the bank than it being projected.
Huge jump from Amador and UBS. Congrats on that! Very much liking the battle for the individual crown. EBH with fewest RD and % of RDs used, so hopefully he'll be able to catch them again
Thanks for the update, roturn

Tbh I have hoped to be higher up at this time of the season and not so close to the relegation zone. Especially Daniel seems to have underperformed.
I got a little bit behind on MG races, will start to catch up now. |
