The Baltic Chain Tour in it`s 4th edition sees two former winners again at the startline in  Avelino (2013) and  Ahlstrand (2015). Both again belong to the very top favourites as the race itself remains a sprinter event despite the opening prologue on cobbles. 4 flat stages in total for the sprinters should see them taking the GC lead over timetrialists or cobblers depending on how the opener works out.
The recently finished Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy saw a very similar lineup with just small changes in the sprinter field. Hence it`s a good indicator of who is in form and will challenge for the win here.
 Bouhanni, while not a top of the line sprinter, won in Thailand and hence must be watched here!
 Lo Cicero was the best of the top riders and should feel confident to beat the others again.
Ahlstrand,  Guerao and  Kupfernagel all had a weak performance in the classic and hence need to improve. Surely they have the speed for a better run here.
Avelino and  Zabel both were in the late top5 and hence will surely aim for similar in the Baltic Chain Tour.
 Van Heerden and  Lavoine are unknowns as they skipped the sprinter classic but normally should fight for a spot inside the top10 just like  Itami and  Van Asbroeck, who did well in Nakhon.
Other top sprinters are  Castañeda,  Serebriakov,  Aberasturi or coming from the PT division  Porsev and  Lay.

The prologue could either go the the short TT specialists or to the cobblers. Both kind of riders are at the start and with a good one, they might even be in the mix of the GC despite having a clear disadvantage to the sprinters as bonus seconds are expected to count a lot more than the time gaps in the opener.

All short and hillless stages, not to the liking of Van Asbroeck. But if he can do a good prologue with his cobbles stat and get a few boni seconds along the way, a good GC might be possible.

The prologue should be good for cobblers, but Sibilla has been a bit underwhelming this season. Hopefully he can still do well here.
Otherwise Sererbriakov for some top-10s in the sprint I hope.

A good result here would be very welcomed. There are a good number of teams who could hope for a nice harvest, so whoever manages to achieve it will not only climb a few positions in the rankings, but could also hurt a few of their rivals.
Hopefully we'll find ourselves on the better end of that problematic.

As shown before it´s very hard to know what to expect when it comes to sprints this season.
But we always hope Ahlstrand can preform what we have thought before the season, with help from Kruopis (73 FL, 78 SP) , Vedel Kvist (75 FL, 77 SP) , Reimer (75 FL, 77 SP) & Van Poppel (75 FL, 76 SP).

Not huge hopes at all, just wish cobbles play a major role so that Teunissen and Taillefour can get some GC points from the prologue, and obviously that Theuns can finally perform in sprints, though that would be a huge request considering the field I'm sure.

Up until now the HC races haven't been great for Tinkoff Sport Academy:
Chernetskiy 87th at Corsica, Porsev 39th at Norway, Rybakov 36th at Nelspruit and Shalunov 129th at Andorra.
However Chernetskiy won the KoM and Porsev the 4th stage in Norway, so maybe Porsev can overperform here again in our last HC-race of the year!

Cornu is the best prologue rider here relative to his COB stat so hopefully he can put in a performance to get something from the first stage. From there I am hoping that Bouhanni is the sole leader of the team as he has a ridiculous number of supporting riders such as Anton Martin, Reza, Jaser, Sanz and Bonnet. The only other rider is young Milos who has the chance to go for a breakaway. Hoping that it is an active 5 stages and that Bouhanni's form can be carried into this!

I believe Cornu should win the first stage, then it is just up to the sprinters to get bonus seconds afterwards.
Will be interesting to see if the cobbles matter at all on the TT

I must admit, I wasn`t expecting this.
I thought time trialists will take it and the higher their cobbled stat, the bigger their advantage.
But apparently cobbled stat was main point in this prologue with 33% of it went over paves.
Now for the sprinters though. |

No doubt cobbles was the main stat for this. Zabel 25s behind, not a big suprise. Less than I feared but will prolly keep him out of top positions unless he gets really lucky. His prl stat will hold him down his entire carrer I'm afraid
