Monterrey TTT
Category: C1 | 55,8 km | terrain: bumpy TTT | Mexico |
2016 sees the fourth episode of the Monterrey TTT. The 55km course could well be a WC TTT course, especially seing that small but existing hill passages. It's mostly a roleurs task though, and you can see that issue on the startlist. Every team that won here over the last three years (RBC 2015, Oz 2014 & 13) is not here today, that's purely due to their presence a division above.
This could've been easily an equal battle if Wiesenhof would've sent an 8th man. But now it looks as Generali should be the outright favourite. Surely they've looked forward to this goal race for the whole season. Outsiders chances for Valio with two powerhouses and a balanced allround team. Even more balanced but on a higher level is Flores with a depth that only the italians can compete with. It might be an issue that the Top-TT puller is missing for the deep digs, but teamwork can make this a hot dark horse.
But not only the win counts here, but many teams would be pleased with a 5th to 8th, what still would make some great points easily earned. It's a very spare startlist this year, so a good chance for the CT teams to earn some big points here with a pretty weak team. The race for the minor places 5-11 is completely open: slight advantages for Vontobel & Aeropostal.
Then we have Novatek & Fox Sports with a very similar demography, a strong leader, average minor guys and a horrible early fallback on the 8th spot. If everything wents like it should (I know, good joke - it's a freaking time trial) then these two teams should battle for 7th, while Chiquita, Elta & Azteca should fight for/against the final spots in the top 10.
The final startlist this time integrated in the teams top-down breakdown:
Generali | | Wiesenhof | | Valio | | Flores | | Van Winden | 80 | Schädlich | 80 | Paillot | 80 | Clesen | 76 | Viviani | 79 | Brändle | 79 | Pökälä | 76 | Ramos | 75 | Boaro | 77 | Atkins | 78 | Omarsson | 73 | Miño | 74 | Rolland | 77 | Kovalev | 78 | Taciak | 73 | Soto | 74 | Ghyselinck | 77 | Archbold | 77 | Samoilev | 73 | Egidio | 74 | Beukeboom | 76 | Predatsch | 77 | Halme | 72 | Ford | 74 | Marchewka | 75 | Postlberger | 75 | Colex | 70 | Quintero | 73 | Goldstein | 75 | Willwohl | 56 | Mayho | 69 | Roglic | 72 | | | | | | | | | Fox Sports | | Vontobel | | Aeropostal | | Novatek | | Flens | 77 | Dal Col | 77 | Cruz | 76 | Cancellara | 79 | Petrus | 74 | Schär | 76 | Mojica | 74 | Velits | 74 | Delgerbayar | 72 | Van Zandbeek | 76 | Craddock | 74 | Hudecek | 72 | Giacoppo | 71 | Hollenstein | 73 | Sepulveda | 73 | Barta | 72 | Gunman | 70 | Taramarcaz | 70 | Raisin | 72 | Vermote | 70 | Altanzul | 70 | Cataldo | 69 | Dall'Antonia | 72 | Rabon | 68 | Bayly | 67 | Schir | 68 | Davila | 70 | Kuznetsov | 66 | Baterdene | 59 | Thalmann | 66 | Sequera | 69 | Jiang | 60 | | | | | | | | | Chiquita | | Elta | | Azteca | | | | Griffith | 76 | Ma | 77 | Peterson | 73 | | | Barton | 75 | Sakellaridis | 75 | Rodas | 71 | | | Martinez | 73 | Katrakis | 73 | Parra | 70 | | | Matthews | 70 | Adamou | 72 | Osorio | 70 | | | Kinney | 69 | Ioannidis | 67 | RodrÃguez | 70 | | | Weiss | 67 | Drakakis | 67 | Richardson | 63 | | | De Leon | 65 | Foliforov | 66 | Orue | 63 | | | Jiatz | 64 | Gkazonis | 59 | Coronel | 62 | | |

Not our strongest team here, but top-10 is the objective here
Flores will win because it's PCM and TTT

We absolutely need to win this. I have a win goal here and Willwohl makes Wiesenhof's chances a lot worse.
Tbh Selwink I haven't found TTTs to be unrealistic, just weird ones like Duo Differdange seem to suck.
Great preview, thank you for the overview.

Always here for the free points. We're guaranteed 15 points already and more should easily be achieved.

Big thanks for preview, Croatia!
Expect Generali, Valio and Wiesenhof in descending order.
Our TTT runs so far went fine and the bumpy route could work out in our favour, too. So there is hoping for an even better result than the anticipated top6.

Events like this make me sorta wish I invested in some sort of TT-team.

It would really be something to compete with Generali here, some good tts of late give us some good form and confidence coming here.
Second place is more than possible, top five is expected. Some good points and a nice screen is what we are looking for. |

Yeas!!! 15 points for Azteca without using Summerhill!!! Our home race doing us some big favors with such a small startlist. Wish the best of luck to those actually competing instead of taking a team training ride.

Nice
To be fair I don't think our start was "shocking", it actually was a lot better than I imagined. In fact, Wiesenhof recuperated in between both of the time checks.
The key for the win certainly wasn't Willwohl at this point, but our edge on the hills compared to Wiesenhof, thanks to the fact most of our riders climb pretty decently.
That said, did we just achieve a win goal?! Oh my oh my oh my someone is going to throw a huge party in Generali's boring insurance HQs!
Thanks for the great report Croatia!

Thanks for the report.
I'm very happy with 3rd place, especially as this is also the Mexican TT-champions farewell ride to his home fans in what is likely his last active season.
