Tour du Faso 2015

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2/tf_mg.png

Welcome to Burkina Faso for the 2015 Tour du Faso. Into its 7th year on the continental circuit, the race has been a mainstay of the calendar for many years now. However there has been a change to the structure of the race this year as it has been cut to 3 stages from 10 in previous years.

Despite this change, the main focus of the race stays the same as the sprinters and cobblers will most probably fight out the win over 3 virtually pan-flat stages. However, last year the race was won from a break, as Bert-Jan Lindeman claimed victory the now defunct Hornbach team.

On paper it's certainly BelarusBank who have the strongest team here for the sprints, with 4 of the top 12 sprinters here in Africa. However, none of them are very strong on the cobbles so the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Thorsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Kankovsky may be limited to trying to get a win on stage 2.

More serious threats to the overall could be the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Corioni and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Peeters who are all decent on cobbles and if they can hang on during stage 1's long cobbled sector and grab some bonus seconds in the sprints a good overall finish should be on.

Behind them you've got several other fastmen who should be able to challenge on stage 2 and possibly 3 but their cobbles ability will limit them from a GC challenge. Falling into this bracket is the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Hochmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Drujon and perhaps the best African prospect on his home continent pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Abdallah.

Cobblers

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot75pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bon.png Ballan74

The best on the cobbles here is no doubt pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Taillefour, who will lead the challenge from the cobblers looking to drop the sprinters in the run-in of stage 1.

Behind him the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Joseph, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Flaksis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Polanc will all be hoping to grab themselves a top 5 overall here. Another interesting rider potentially is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot who's sprinting ability could also see him grabbing some bonus seconds as well as his cobbled ability.

Everything points to 3 fascinating days of racing in Africa, and the battle for promotion for several of the teams here should add another dimension to the racing.

Wow that's a small startlist. Shock

Sorry Maxime but I have to hope In-N-Out score as little as possible for our promotion chances. Wink

First time I'll be supporting Lavoine amongst others. Pfft

Darn, that's a strong startlist for such a reduced number of teams!

Come on Fabien make me proud of you like you've done at Herning, destroy everyone Cool

Hopefully the cobbly sprinters will be dropped easily, wouldn't like to see my guy losing it to Corioni or Joseph, would much rather see another cobbler taking it. Anyway looking forward to the reports, thanks for the preview FD!

Hopefully our worst race of this month. Unless we win with a break. Let's just hope for the latter Smile

This was basically a filler for Lavoine, so any points from him would be good Smile

Great preview Smile

I knew i wanted to participate here Right from the moment I signed Flaksis. With him and Ingels I have a pretty strong duo for C2 races and i expect a top 5 GC finish by them.

With Wagner I even have a 77 Sprinter for stage 2 here to make it a very strong C2 lineup. Lovely that these riders can lead my squad themselves in races like this!

Top favourite is once again Strava and i hope they do well. Perhaps even in the person of Dupont ?

It's nice for my squad to have a catch up with my 2 loaned out Austrians, hopefully we can score some points one way or another here or at least get a breakaway appearance.

This is basically a filler race so we can still use up all our RD and it should help a couple of the guys we've brought get another xp level.

And after this there will only be 1 classic left until we can call our horrible first PCT season over.

The Rider
Same with Sammy, here to round out our race days figure. Though, if we realized we wouldn't be competing for a top 10 in the PCT rankings we would have raced more c2 races.

Just like knockout we have a 77 sprinter, who should sprint. And for the cobbles we have Ballan, 90% sure he won't do anything though!

Looking at this startlist I am pretty sure that some CT teams didn't look at too many race routes before the season (thinking about the CT teams whose best riders are cobblers and they aren't here).

Looking forward to fdog's coverage of a race I did last season, much shorter this time around. Something to wet the appetite 'fore the Ruta America del Sur! Smile

What the .... Gilanipoor.

It would be a nice surprise to get any kind of result here, either from Razzie in the sprints or a stage 3 attack from Ostergaard.

I miss the old Faso Sad

Lavoine should be good enough on the cobbles to survive them on the first stage and take the race from there.

Kozontchuk our big hope here. Maybe Park can get a top 5 as well, but I don't expect it.

If Dimitri can get a top 10 GC at the end of the race, we will be very happy with that.

Thank you for the preview FroomeDog and mind your own business TheRider Wink

A stage win to finish the season would be nice Smile
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I'm praying to MG cobble gods that the first stage plays a key role. Turgot is all or nothing for me here

Thanks for the preview froomedog!

Somehow I completely missed that the first stage finished on a whole lot of continuous cobbles. This will be fun then, if Ostergaard is in an aggressive mood. Grin

Pretty disappointed with my guys today. We obviously didn't stand a chance on this track. Important that Kozontchuk snatch that one second bonus at the very least. Then he's still up there with a chance of top 10 in the end.

Thank you for the report!

I wish Niki had been a little more aggressive but I won't complain.

Really weird race

Lavoine might be out of contention of the GC, but hopefully he can take stage 2 Smile

Also why are the GC times so weird?

^ Obvious, no? Bonuses for the top 10.

As good/bad as last year: https://pcmdaily.c...d_id=38039 Oh well, its only 18 kilometres of continuous cobbles, not like we didn't expect a group of 100 to finish together.

Another dream result for knockout and a great result for Strava as well, could they be in for good points here?
