Acropolis Cup
The Acropolis of Athens in Greece is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon.
It's this world famous place, where a new event gives it's debut on the MG calendar: the Acropolis Cup (C2HC)! A hilly parcours in the centre of Athens will probably suit a fast finisher, as the loop ends with a rather flat sector.
The Startlist
The Puncheurs | HI | SP | | HI | SP | Mendes | 78 | 68 | Fankhauser | 75 | 70 | Zeits | 77 | 64 | Kinney | 75 | 69 | Lejman | 77 | 59 | Der | 75 | 68 | Vastaranta | 76 | 75 | Rocchetti | 75 | 65 | Rabon | 76 | 72 | Ilias | 75 | 64 | Simon | 76 | 72 | Cioban | 75 | 64 | Acevedo | 76 | 63 | Godoy | 75 | 58 | Passalacqua | 76 | 62 | Belmokhtar | 75 | 57 | Sinkewitz | 76 | 50 | Shushemoin | 75 | 56 | Favilli | 75 | 76 | Uchima | 74 | 72 | Molard | 75 | 70 | Zielinski | 74 | 70 |
Of course we do need to consider Mendes as the top-favorite first: being the best puncheur and also adding some decent sprint skills, Mendes surely wouldn't fear a sprint from a reduced group as much as other favorites like Zeits, Lejman or Acevedo, Passalacqua and Sinkewitz would. As for any hilly classic, it's his race to loose.
The profile - however - probably has written names like Vastaranta, Rabon, Simon or Favilli all over it's new face! Those strong finishing puncheurs look like good bets, as we may see a bigger group contesting for the victory. And even with small groups at the front, those guys could be well amongst the day's best.
A special mention should go to local hero Ilias. Obviously a special race for both him and his team! He ain't chanceless here and has already proven that he's capable of pulling surprising results.
The Punchy Sprinters | HI | SP | Sonnery | 70 | 78 | Davis | 67 | 77 | Matysiak | 73 | 76 | Kuboki | 72 | 76 | Sweeting | 70 | 76 | Bouglas | 67 | 76 | Canola | 73 | 75 | Pozdnyakov | 73 | 75 |
Several punchy sprinters made their way to Greece, too. Looking at the profile, that ain't too surprising: Sonnery, Matysiak, Kuboki, Sweeting, Canola or Pozdnyakov as the most promising names here. In a less selective race, those guys should be considered real threats. They surely will aim for a notable result in this inaugaral edition of the Acropolis Classic!

Ah we are here. I have like 0 expectations, just hope that Molard - or even Passalacqua since it's just 183 kms - can do something really decent and save our ass. Thanks for the preview tsmoha, picking Vastaranta for this one

One of the races I've been looking forward to. Rabon has been incredibly consistent this season, and we need him to keep that up. The race seems very suitable for him, so I expect him to get at least a podium. Outscoring Compal and Strava may be even more important though.

Hopefully Acevedo can launch an attack, because he's not going to do anything in the sprint. He's had an atrocious season so far; time to turn that around! The hill doesn't look very long although it's probably quite steep, but I think it will be won by a punchy sprinter rather than a pure puncheur. I can always hope, though.

"Acropolis Cup" means the winner gets the Acropolis?
Didn't know the Greek were THAT broke.

It is time for Simon to prove that he is worth it, he is supposed to be our best rider but he hasn't gotten a single top 5 this season! |

Not very high expectations here, If Uchima has a good day he should be able to net us a top 10 with half decent back-up stats and a good sprint. Simon for the win!
Thanks for the preview.

When you're the #1 favorite on the start list but aren't mentioned in the preview.

Who cares about De Maar?
Nah.. Noticed it afterwards, but seems I forgot to add him as a contender. Let's see it positive: no pressure.

I would be pretty disappointed if we don't win, given our aquad here, although if it comes to a sprint it won't be good for us so now I'm worried...
Thanks for the great preview tsmoha.

This race is like built for Vastaranta so I really hope he will deliver. An important race for the promotion battle.

Yup definitely have some hopes for Favilli finishing high up. He didn't do much lately since Tour of Iceland so it's a good time to start scoring again for him.. if it was up to me. Vastaranta probably the main guy to beat here.

Well Davis or a breakaway is our only chance of getting a high finish here. Hopefully we are lucky and are rewarded with a nice result!

Will be interesting to see how this race turns out, where Matysiak might be able to do something, if it ends in a sprint and his hill stat should make up for any loss of energy to the other sprinters.
Second scenario is that the pure punchers control the race and as the game considers Lejman the captain, it should be fairly interesting and the route definitely favors Vastaranta.

Nice to see Vastaranta try again, but also another slightly disappointing result...

Very good race for us, top 5 is about where I would have realistically hooed, so that's definitely okay.
Nice win for Simon, very nice to see that he can get you more than a top 50 at times, jihardy
Great report, tsmoha, thanks a lot for that!
