The GP Tokyo! A big race for the elite sprinters of the CT calendar. However, with a rouleur winning this race by a late attack last season there are no guarantees this will end up in a sprint. At 262 KM in length the race is a long day in saddle despite the terrain being very flat, this might see many sprinters being shelled out.
The Favourites:
| FL | STA | SPR | ACC | | M Richeze | 73 | 73 | 80 | 79 | | J Forero | 71 | 70 | 80 | 75 | | A Serebriakov | 74 | 73 | 80 | 77 | | C Corioni | 73 | 73 | 79 | 75 | | M Matthews | 75 | 72 | 79 | 79 | | K Peeters | 72 | 71 | 79 | 77 | | M Vanderaerden | 72 | 71 | 79 | 75 | | R Andriato | 71 | 72 | 78 | 76 | | K Sobota | 72 | 74 | 78 | 78 | | King | 75 | 73 | 78 | 73 | | J Jørgensen | 73 | 64 | 78 | 73 | | M Pelucchi | 74 | 74 | 78 | 77 | | Y Hutarovich | 71 | 75 | 78 | 80 | | S Park | 70 | 71 | 78 | 77 | |
Sancor bring their tried and tested lead-out, for the B world champion, which bore fruits at the Great Ocean Ride Classic. That said Novatek and Compal each bring a great cluster of support riders for their leaders. How many teammates will be left though after 260 KM?
The Wildcards:
| Flat | Stamina | Daniele Ratto | 79 | 74 | Yannick Stoltz | 78 | 66 | Andrew Tennant | 77 | 76 | Fabien Taillefour | 77 | 70 | J Bauer | 76 | 74 | S Langeveld | 76 | 78 | V Kuznetsov | 76 | 75 | E Van Wyk | 76 | 72 | M Mørkøv | 75 | 72 | D Vitoria | 73 | 74 | K Kuboki | 73 | 75 | K Uchima | 70 | 75 |
No doubt many will fancy a rouleur, who can handle the longer distances, for the win here. Ratto looks like a dangerman for this kind of course, though Strava bring many riders capable of putting in a late attack as do Actavis who bring last season's winner, Vitoria. Uchima and Bauer have already shown well this season, are they on good form for the win here?

Hoping Peeters and Pelucchi work together well here and get us a podium or something!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Maybe a podium for Sobota, probably can't dream of a stage win.

Theoretically looking at the startlist Forero should be a good bet for a podium finish but the extreme length of the stage makes racing quite unpredictable - this went to a breakaway last year iirc? So best not to get expectations up too high for this one.

I'm defo looking for some points here. Corioni should stand his own in a sprint to contest for a Top 10, whilst Tennant and Langeveld - like mentioned - are good for a late attack maybe with their high flat stat. Additionally I've brought Favilli, De Backer and Dupont. Yup. Surely no excuses if they don't deliver here. If Corioni has a good day we might even use all that team power for relay duties and lead-out stuff. It'd be cool to see.

Richeze going to be dangerous yet again. We have great hopes for our team here though, and have sent a number of supporting riders. Will be interesting with the staminapart. Big goal for us this.
Great write-up SN! |

Mathews or Richeze for me, maybe Forero. Don't expect anyone else to win.
Not much going on for us here, top 10 would be nice, but knowing how random the sprinting AI has been with selecting who sprints and who doesn't, I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks for the preview!

Ratto please, prove me you are not completely useless
I think I brought Moser here, not really sure though as he didn't make the sprinters list for some reason.
Realistically Matthews or Richeze are the main favourites.
Thanks for the preview The Rider/SN

Argh, should have sent Mezgec instead of Simon, a slight mistake in my planning there .

Complete no show with Haddou getting dropped when hills aren't even in sight! Turgot also being dropped is a worry as well. An end to a disappointing month and yet more evidence of that a long season ahead
Thanks Rider for the report and SN for posting

Nice win for Matthews and also a very pleasant Top-10 finish for former Ozzie Wes Sulzberger! Brave effort from Tennant, which is always a dangerous move in such classics (something similar happened to Burghardt in the more challenging Lisbon Classic most recently). So I feel with Strava (on one hand), but I'm also glad a sprinter took it (on the other hand).
Novatek going for (another) scoring-through-numbers Well played from those guys.
Thanks for the report/posting!

Urgh... utter waste of two racedays. Forero really very poor. He needs to start scoring especially in these flat classics otherwise our point-scoring opportunities will become one-dimensional and hence more limited.

Loved the attitude of my riders in this race, De Backer and Tennant forcing their luck and Langeveld with a strong finish (his extraordinary stamina really comes into play here!). Tennant was close but it wasn't meant to be, strong ride from him after all the disappointing TTs he has done so far.
Corioni's sprint is pointless, what was the point? I've hoped for a Top 10 by him but that was too little. Maybe team support was missing with so many strong rouleurs in the team, Favilli dropped early on and Dupont actually finishing ahead of him..
5 Strava riders scoring points. Nice team depth. I take it.
Thanks for a nice report rider and thanks for posting SN!

Sobota tried to follow the move, but unfortunately he didn't make it, at least we got a top 10 with Morkov.

Lovely report SN. Vitoria grabs us another minor placing... well that's about all I expected to be honest.

Nice 3rd from Pelucchi, this is why we bought him! Still, it's a few times now I wish he'd position himself better, he always seems to start the sprint from a bad position.
At least he does better then Peeters, he's been a disappointment from last year on.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Urgh... utter waste of two racedays.
This basically.
Ratto please, prove me you are not completely useless
Tennant tries a late attack, Ratto doesn't follow him. And no, don't tell me he was tired, fuck no, cause I won't believe you.
Really, he's such an useless presence: he doesn't attack, he doesn't sprint, he doesn't lead out any of my sprinters
Would love to see him trying and failing, but he just fails.
Thanks for the lovely report The Rider/SN.
