Dwars door Vlaanderen is held annually in the region of West Flanders, Belgium. It's part of "Flanders Classics" who also organise Ronde van Vlaanderen and Gent - Wevelgem. The field is usually made up of riders who can ride well on cobble stones but are just below the ProTour bar.
The race starts in Roeselare and finishes in Waregem. The route consists of 191.7 kilometres circling through West Flanders, including 9 kilometres of cobble roads and 9 kilometres of steep hills (like Paterberg, Oude Kwaremont and Varent) with gradients over 15%!

Today is a busy day in the world of cycling, later today you can watch the best cobblers of the ProTour during the East Midlands Cicle Classic (United Kingdom). Or if you enjoy Continental Circuit stage racing more, you can go watch the FBD Eire Tour (Ireland) or Tour de San Luis (Argentina) instead, but we start this day with the early morning broadcast of Dwars door Vlaanderen in West Flanders, Belgium.
The first edition (2012) was won by Tom Veelers (Koppert Cycling Team), he won the group sprint (12 riders), and looking at the startlist, most teams are again hoping for a small group to stay ahead of the peloton and than sprint for victory in Waregem.
There are twelve PCT teams and five CT teams: BelarusBank Pro Cycling, Carlsberg - Danske Bank, Fox Sports - Golomt Cycling, Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team and Strava. In total there are 135 riders on the start list (8 riders per team, except Strava, who have 7 riders in their squad), 36 riders are from Belgium, Team BPost is the main supplier with 8 riders from Belgium.
Last year winner Bernhard Eisel isn't here to defend his title, but Kevin Peeters (winner of 2013 (Japanese - Korean Cycling Project), now riding for Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team) and Tom Veelers (winner of 2012 (Koppert Cycling Team), now riding for Gazelle) are.
The three main contenders are Summerhill, Vanspeybrouck and Baugnies.
Behind these main favorites there are a lot of other good cobblers here in Belgium like Vanmarcke, Boonen, Thomas, Maes and Vandenbergh.
Also cobblers like Albert, Breschel and Nuyens are present, they could all have a vital role as second leader in their teams.

If we see a similar finish as in all previous editions, then I hope Vanmarcke can sprint to a top5.
If it`s more selective then I hope to see a replay of GP Kigali, where he was in one of the top groups having energy to outsprint the others.
Surely another podium would be nice but the goal is a top5. Hopefully Nooytens this time can stay with the best a bit longer and also fight for smaller points here. |

Time for Boonen to shine
Summerhill has been impressive so far. I guess a few of those big guns may burn their energy with empty-handed attacks. Baugnies maybe?

I hope for a signature Silvio move mid-race to save the day.
Pre-transfers I was pretty optimistic Daniel could Top 10 all those cobbled classics, now I'm far less so...still this looks like a good route for him with a lot of cobbles-free roads at the end that could lead to bigger groups where he can utilize his sprint.
The same hopefully goes for Weber and Lander so they can get some minor points too besides Declerq.
For the run-in reason I go with Boonen here.

Still can't believe how Peeters ever won this (or any race for that matter ).
Let's see what we can do here, as it's a home race, we definitely need to do better than that Kigali race.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

After the 9th place and strong performance at GP Kigali, the eyes are certainly set again on a Top 10 result.
Generally, De Backer and Dupont have the chance of sprinting to some good points here and can function as a backup-plan in two ways even, whilst Langeveld is free to take risks and go on the attack. That's in theory, hope it kinda works like this in the race too.
Very nice preview, looking forward to the race!

Completely agree with Tsmo here.
One of the best suited races for Boonen and i really expect him to deliver big time here. In Kigali I was okay with a top ten but this time I want at least a podium.
I hope it doesn't hurt too much that lieutenant Flaksis misses this race but Ingels, Kulppi and Smirnovs should be able to help a bit while Willwohl, Weiss, Liepins and Bogdanovics are mainly here for XP reasons.

Tom Bonnen is the man to mark as this looks to be a cobblers sprint finish. Baugnies has a history of attack too early on these races.
AMEX will place their hopes on a late Baugnies attack or Matti Breschel chasing Boonen on to the podium.

Come on nationality bonus! Got to get some of my guys over the line. Boonen will almost certainly win this but I hope Stallaert can make an impact if it comes to a sprint.

Perfect race for Veelers, which is illustrated by the fact that in the last three editions he finished 1st, 10th and 6th.
There are some riders here that are way stronger than him, so I don't expect a win. Top 5 should be very possible though.
How strong is Evonik's support? I wonder whether Boonen will try to depend on them or just join attacks himself.

Definitely hope for some selection here.
Even though this would seem a nice race for Vantomme, he couldn't be here because of FBD.
Both Maes and Verbist can't sprint for shit, so I'll pray for an attack.

Only 74-72-69 here iirc
Far from ideal but I hope that the main chasing duty will be taken over by Bpost.

Time for Superdan to come out an play again. Obviously need to continue to get fantastic riders from Summerhill and certainly excited for this race.

Hopefully Drucker's first outing for the team will go well, not sure where he stands in the cobbled field but hopefully he's not too far down the pecking order.

I suppose the only reason I'm here is Ostergaard's 78 fighter. unfortunately, De Maar has the leadership. This may have been an issue.
Nevertheless, Ostergaard got a top 20 here last year. If he attacks mid stage we can have some fun. it's my only Non Scandinavian C1 race of the year, so let's just have a good time with it.

Nutresa's first flat cobbled classic race, and all rests on VDB's shoulders with only old workhorse Del Nero with any likely potential to be about the sharp-end if this goes hard. Couple of sprinters along for the ride that can't really cope with much cobbles, but if the cobbles fail to break race up they are present as back-up (although the like of Modolo are still 2nd-tier at best).
Like others think this is well suited to the likes of Boonen, and if that's the case also expect to see Thomas be one of the main challengers.

Top 10 should be possible from Trentin. Hope that Steeurs can continue with his attacking performance from Kigali.

Any news on this Oleg?
Slowing the game a bit right now as other races already wait for it. |

He'll hopefully show up soon, most likely drunk somewhere along the first TDF stages :-p
I like the speed we got this season, so I just hope it keeps up, usually we slow down in July/August so would be great if we avoided that
