Tour of Utah
The final H2HC stage-race on the 2014 schedule and we're heading for the United States: the Tour of Utah features a packed startlist and challenging stages, in which both puncheurs and of course climbers will go for the GC.
Kicking off with the only flat stage, it's then a mix of hilly and mountainous stages for the next five days. It's an interesting mix, as we only have one real summit finish on the "Snowbird" on fifth day!
The Startlist
The GC-contenders
Allrounders | MO | HI | Climbers | MO | HI | Arroyo | 79 | 73 | Parra Bustamante | 76 | 68 | Rodrigues | 78 | 73 | Zurita | 76 | 69 | Quintero | 77 | 73 | Orozco | 76 | 66 | Schwab | 77 | 72 | Esquivel | 76 | 67 | Sorensen | 76 | 74 | Raisin | 76 | 67 | Txurruka | 76 | 73 | Montenegro | 76 | 66 | Castano | 76 | 72 | Rodriguez | 76 | 64 | Alizadeh | 76 | 72 | Landa | 75 | 67 | Rodas | 76 | 71 | Infantino | 75 | 71 | Ardila | 76 | 71 | Duenas | 75 | 69 | Jeannesson | 76 | 71 | Kronborg Ebsen | 74 | 70 | Feillu | 75 | 74 | | | | Saggiorato | 75 | 72 | | | | Rudaskov | 75 | 72 | Puncheurs | MO | HI | Godoy | 74 | 75 | Schurter | 72 | 75 | Beltran | 74 | 74 | Cioban | 65 | 75 | Rosa | 74 | 73 | Selander | 67 | 74 | Richardson | 74 | 73 | Firsanov | 70 | 74 | McConvey | 74 | 73 | Appleby | 70 | 74 | Sayar | 73 | 74 | Pozdnyakov | 67 | 73 | Marentes | 73 | 73 | Parisien | 67 | 73 |
Arroyo is here to be the top-favorite, aiming to follow on Gustav Larsson as last year's winner here. The premium climber may fear the ever dangerous Rodrigues the most: coming off a huge victory at the Clasico RCN, Rodrigues once again managed to beat Arroyo and kept dominating the CT this year.. Also Ochoa Quintero and Schwab will aim for the GC-victory, while Schwab did have a complicated season overall.
A few more names can be real threats: Sorensen, Txurruka, Alizadeh (7th last year) or Rodas (5th) in particular. The latter coming off a stunning Tour of America and obviously feeling comfortable on US roads most recently.
Hard to say, wether pure climbers like Raisin, Landa, Zurita/Orozco or puncheurs like Godoy (after an outstanding RCN), Schurter or Firsanov will stand a chance for the GC. Schurter though did already great in Azerbaijdan and may benefit from the early hilly stage again.
The Sprinters
Matthews | Farrar | Sabatini | Friedman | Westling |
With most likely just one stage for the sprinters, we will keep it short here: Matthews and Farrar should be considered the clear favorites for the opener and anything but a bunch sprint would be a huge fail for those two teams.. Sabatini, local hero Friedman or Westling can be well in the mix, too.

At the start of the month, of the two big cont. stage races, we thought that our best chance was at the Tour of Utah. Unlike the RCN, none of the stages here shout out to me that the top climbers will produce massive gaps. Looks like a GC to be decided by the bold attackers who attack from circa 30 KM out: You hear that Txurruka: BOLD ATTACKERS!
tsmoha - I am confused that Camargo (MNT:75, HIL:70) always seems to miss the preview in your lists! I'm not complaining, I just find it strange that he always misses out.

Teams like your's or Nutresa/ONCE are always hard to make choose riders for the preview I usually try to avoid listing more than two riders per team in those previews (I know, it happens sometime), so Txurruka (as the best climber) and Godoy (as the best allrounder) were my choices here.
I've also reported quite a lot CT-races in the meantime and can't remember Camargo doing something special (correct me if I'm wrong). But as said before, I could of course list more than two or three riders for teams like your's.

meanwhile evonik has 3 x level 1 , 3 x Level 2 & one level 3 guy here.
One can only guess what focus I had this season.

That is fair enough, as I certainly wouldn't add him to a preview myself.
knockout - Evonik aren't out of the woods yet, would be good to see you scrape a few points here methinks. |

Stage 1 seems perfect for Pozdnyakov and if he wins he might hang on in stage 2 as well.
Obviously, this is just a best-case scenario which will definitely not unfold in the end

Surely I am cheering for Evonik here. My two loanies hopefully go into the break often. Quite sure Edmondson will at least once.
Other than that interesting startlist. |

We're at Vontobel staying awake all night while our team already has returned to the Züri headquarters.
The intern office survey had resulted in most of us are cheering for Mirco Saggiorato and the other Sauber guys.
Good luck to most of the teams... Euskaltel shouldn't score more than 50 pts of course.

Last chance to see Live Nation impress. Hopefully The Rider will be right in saying that it won't be for the absolutely top climbers. CAS have been good at attacking lately so hopefully he'll get something from it this time.
For the sprint I doubt Westling will be able to hang on over the hills, but he's welcome to surprise me. Could be a good stage for a break I think as the Cat. 3 could very well mess things up for the sprinters.

I hope for a similar success than in RCN. And as this is a C2HC race I can even hope for more than the 146 points from RCN.
Though I don't expect to win here as it is not a goal race and Rodrigues only seems to be motivated in my goal races.
I hope for a decent AI and expect the only gaps big gaps between favourites on stage 5 as the other stages all have a downhill finish on which gaps often aren't given |

Oh, don't you worry.
My first ever stage win (& yellow jersey) in this game came from lvl2 rider in a race with a pretty similar xp lineup for me.

sent a pretty weak team here, mainly because it was the last race of the season and i had no one left really
hope we can do something with Richardson or be in the breaks

Zurita and or Orozco getting in a break or a late attack is what we need here - something along the lines of what happened in RCN would be great. However I think this race favours them less, with only one summit finish and the ability to downhill and then sprint key in two or three stages - something which Zurita and Orozco do not excel at.
This feels like a key race for us, loitering down at the bottom of the division, so I can only imagine what it feels like for those in and around the edges of the promotion slots. Good luck to all of you!

I forgot to mention that 4 of the 7 riders are loaned in
But I'm with you, Roturn & TMM : Many breakaway appearences are expected and with PCM being PCM this can always give one some nice results
