Our rivals Tinkoff and Polar grabbing places 1, 2 and 4 is not good. But Lander somewhat mitigates this with a solid fifth place.
Very well executed leadout by Polar btw.

Good to see Pedersen up in the mix, even though it for a while looked he could actually get a decent result. But that should at least mean that he's ready to race for some results over the next stages.

The top 3 teams grabbing 4 of the top 5 spots is crazy. Of course not ideal for teams lurking behind hoping to overtake some of those

Hey, look who just grabbed a stage podium
He took his time, but Bol finally, finally gets that Top 3, in the final stage race of the year. At some point I was even hoping for more, but his lack of acceleration meant that he first had to close the gap to Banaszek, and then ran out of energy in the end. Guess that's a fair result. Thanks to Polar for doing a great leadout here - and obviously congrats on the stage win!
Also, good to see both of Küng and Schmid being attentive, maybe we'll indeed have two cards to play here... or three, with Bol not too shabby in TTs, hills and cobbles, either?
Thanks for the report!

Happy to be in the break with Finkst at least. Forsell had a great wheel, but I guess his flat holds him back and he fades hard. Shouldn't be getting results in this field anyway, so no big deal.

A big scare their with Anderberg and other cobblers dropped. Fear it is a sign of puncheurs/TTers in general being considered the main GC riders here. Hoping Anderberg proves me wrong on stage 3! Our dream scenario must be to see him in an elite group, making it possible to claim yellow in the TT. A lot shall go our way for that, though, but we take a selective stage all days of the week!
Maybe the one stage for the whole season I’m the most excited about, like it has been every year we have brought a cobbler here |

I noticed Gerts finished at the back the first stage, but actually getting caught up in a split is quite worrying.

It does seem to me like Polanc would have benefitted from the split with multiple rivals dropped and he seemed to be in the peleton as far as i can speculate. But its good for the race that (almost) all the cobblers could catch back up again.
The cobbled stage should be really important now. Hopefully we can get prime Polanc to deliver once again. Cobbled sectors seem to be mostly uphill which should be good even if the stage is super short

Would be great for us if there had been a split, but for the sake of the race and fairness, I'm glad it didn't come to anything. Feel for Tiller though.
Now let's see what Pedersen can do. Just have to hope that we really attack the stage.

Decent sixth by Marin! Higuita outside of top-50 so I hope he doesn't just get completely overlooked by the AI in the next stage. Thanks for the nice report again, Ulrich

Rajovic has one more chance to get us something from this race.

Hum... Bol sadly back to "I-don't-need-to-care-about-positioning-because-I'll-win-thanks-to-resistance-anyway" mode. Yesterday he did a perfect job, today he confirms that PCT will be the better place for him next year.
Just like some others, on one hand sad that the split didn't persist, given that Küng and Schmid were well positioned again - but it's definitely better for the race that the cobblers still have a shot. In particular Gerts, that would really have been awful for Rabobank (and really inexplicable, given that he's a good puncheur as well).
Congrats to cio, thanks for the report!

Really exciting stage! Thanks for the awesome report Ulrich!
I loved the aggression from Per. This was the only day to make a difference, so he needed time. Somebody had to make the first major move, and he did phenomenally to last as long int he wind as he did. Unfortunately, the fresher Pedersen and Gerts coming from behind were too much, and he cracked pretty hard in the end.
But no regrets, since we're still in a much better situation than if no one had forced the selection and it ended in a bunch sprint. We have a minute and a half on most of the other contenders. Will it stick? Probably not. But it's our only chance of a good result here.
Congrats to Alex!

Thank you for the report, UU! And what a win for Gerts and Rabobank Congratulations, Alex!
We got the scenario we hoped for with gaps in favour of the elite cobblers. Just a pity Anderberg couldn’t profit and came home with the big group. His aggression was cool, but it was definitely too early to net him a result.
We will struggle big time to defend our ranking top 5 after this. We still hope for a stage win by Anderberg, but the hills will be a sufferfest and painful for us as a team |

Really nice report Ulrich Ulriksen, always difficult to report the cobble stage in ToNE with so much going on. Since we don't really have a GC rider here, we have to rely on day successes and that is going better than expected.

Gerts the better man, clearly, so congrats, Alex.
Very encouraging result for us, with the second place and a good gap down, as well as many riders in the first main group. Not sure what to expect from the hilly stages, but with Rabobank in the lead here (and Gerts should win from here, imo), we probably need a big result to stay alive in the relegation battle.

That was quite an entertaining stage though I may be a bit biased
Good to see the cobblers putting their mark on the race even though in the end it was just 4 of them that actually benefitted from it.
It looks like there's a good chance we will have the yellow jersey going into the hilly stages so now I'm a bit worried we don't have any support for Gerts in that area.
As for the relegation battle, I think it's a bit early to make any judgements, but with both Pedersen and Gerts doing well here in the GC the teams above us could suddenly find themselves in danger as well.

Cool to see the cobbles having this much impact!
Teunissen was very active and in front of the peloton many times. Shame he couldn't keep going and ultimately ended up in the big group.
The good news though is that Aleotti and Malecki also finished in that group. Very curious how they will do in the cobble TT.
