Despite taking place within one week in the calendar, the Ardennes Triple spans two months of racing - and hence won't be handled separately in the monthly ranking updates (unlike e.g. the Triple Header). So, why not just take a look at these three races?
Ardennes Triple | Riders
Unsurprisingly, the three winners - Gidich, Lopez, De Bie (in the "regular" order AGR - FW - LBL) - were among the top scorers. However, whereas Gidich and De Bie take the top spots, MAL is only 4th behind Lutsenko, who was just amazingly consistent. The Top 4 are separated by just 42 points, ranging from 441 (MAL) to 483 (Gidich) points - far above everyone else.
It is worth noting that especially Gidich and De Bie massivley improved on their 2022 score - which might leave a sour taste especially for roturn, as Aegon would have stayed up if De Bie had just scored a little more than half of his 2023 points...
Lutsenko also improved by almost 200 points, with Lopez also getting roughly 100 points higher - most other riders who had a bigger (absolute) improvement weren't riding in PT last year.
Skujins rounds off the Top 5, with just above 300 points. Formolo and Yates are next, both slightly above 250 points - with no-one else above 200. Last year, we only had one 400+ scorer (compared to 4 this year); on the other hand, there were less 200+ scorers. And don't forget that 280 LBL points were lost last year, with Kinoshita winning the race as a wildcard rider.
Said Kinoshita was 8th this year, just below 200 points. Rounding off the Top 10 are Valter and Mohoric, who are separated by one point - and should have completely opposite feelings. Whereas Valter has just completed his development, and therefore expectedly improved on last year's result, Mohoric is THE loser of this year's Ardennes Triple. Being the strongest last year with 453 points, he only takes 10th place, with a "measly" 164 points this year. Yep, there are some huge performance variations from one year to the next...
Sagan in 11th hasn't lost much compared to 2022, whereas Vakoc also was clearly weaker. Ardila and Borges were in PCT last year, and have arrived strongly in PT by taking 13th and 14th. Madouas had a pretty good year, almost doubling his 2022 values, to take the final Top 15 spot.
Aranburu, McCarthy, Van Niekerk and Gaudu are some more former PCT riders, with newly trained Amezawa being the final rider in the Top 20.
We have another massively disappointing rider in 22nd place, with Kwiatkowski dropping from 294 to 46 points - however, after a decline, and "only" as a backup to Sagan who did well. Koretzky in 23rd was also scoring below his manager's expectations, having lost more than half of his 2022 points. No other riders having scored more than 100 points last year were present.

Ardennes Triple | Teams
The teams of the Top 4 riders are also at the top in this list, with the only difference being Gazelle tied for 2nd with Lidl. Especially King Power made huge progress compared to last year, almost doubling their Ardennes outcome. Lidl (formerly De Stijl) scored 200 points more as well, with both Gazelle and Evonik getting more than 100 additional points, too.
Tinkoff and Rabobank (formerly Huski Chocolate) are roughly 150 points down on Evonik - both still improving on last year's outcome, though. Which is true as well for cycleYorkshire, actually the 2nd most improving team (among the returning ones!), with 236 points gained, and a total of 365 scored.
ISA were slightly worse than last year, compensating about half of Vakoc's lost points, whereas Binance are the strongest newly promoted team. They're 11 points ahead of Kinoshita's Minions - who are only 11th, though, as Aker round off the Top 10 one point ahead of them.
Aker actually are the team with the biggest loss by far, 283 points lower than last year. You can't just easily replace a Mohoric in top shape ^^
Vesuvio also improved quite a lot with Valter's arrival at full strength, with Zara following behind as the 3rd best promoted team. MOL also lost a lot of points with Kwiatkowski's departure - even though Ardila surely didn't do a bad job. Carlsberg and Puma round off the Top 15, with 225 points each - the former without a reference mark, the latter having improved by close to 50 points.
Amaysim - only the 5th best promoted team, despite McCarthy - are the final team above 200 points, with ELCO, Moser, Cedevita, Grieg and Polar taking the bottom 5 spots. Moser are clearly suffering from both Sagan's and Ponzi's departure - with the former still doing a really good job this year for his new team.
Amazing writeup, Fabianski! Especially loved the comparisons to last season, both riders and teams.
We expected to score less this year, though, not having one "better" performance, but only three so-so performances, hurts in terms of points. Must admit I had hoped for slightly more from Mohoric. Amezawa with a very minor increase compared to last year is nice, though, his most important job was clearly as a domestique to Mohoric.
Interesting that Formolo (or the team for that matter) didn't score much more than last year, despite what I thought was a quite successful campaign. I guess finishing second in FW last year, really boosted our scoring.
Gerts not much worse than last year so I guess it's not this year that his decline started. Though I think he missed one race last year.
Nice to see Remco so high on that list despite being just 74 in hills at the moment. Really looking forward to what he can achieve in the future.
Great roundup Fabianski! Always love your MG journalism.
For us, Aranburu was about at expectations after everything. Given our lack of both a competitive leader and depth, socring 15th best and only about 100 points behind most of the teams with true puncheur leaders is workable. Obviously we need overperformances throughout the season to survive, but I don't think we've lost pace to our expectations here at least.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
Thank you Fabianski, amazing work that I hope you know is appreciated greatly.
First of all on the race itself, again a stellar showing by Madouas to make that final selection.
Obviously it's unlucky that he was forced into the lead on the approach to the flamme rouge, but still from a group of nearly 20, finishing 13th is great no matter what.
Overall, Valentin's great Ardennes performances are reflected in that ranking, with 15th place for a 77 hill rider on sub-200k wage being very valuable points.
From those Top 20, only Ardila and Gaudu are on cheaper wages.
Unsurprisingly, the rest of the team barely contributed to our scoring, but with such a weak leader on paper, I'm always happy when at least one rider is in the mix, particularly when the cobbles aren't quite as nice to us in a similar situation.
Congrats to jph for an expensive, but earned and hopefully enjoyed LBL win whenever you come across it!
Thank you laurens for an amazing in-depth preview and kandesbunzler for a report that did it and the race justice. A lot of very scenic shots!
Thanks for the preview Laurens147 and thanks for the report kandesbunzler26; that was really intense. So close to achieving one of our last long-term team goals -> winning a Monument...
Last year was already close with Sulimov's 2nd place at Milano San Remo, but I really thought we had this in the bag this time. Oh well at least we have another reason to stay in the ManGame I guess
I guess I can complain about the result here from Yates but I did enjoy the racing he showed here and across the Ardennes triple, even if it didn't work out here in LBL at all.
Love the breakdown from Fab - showed we had a decent campaign especially compared to last year which was expected considering Yates' purchase. But overall we didn't do that much better than the other mid table teams and we had no scoring apart from Yates' contribution. Another problem is that it probably didn't replace Summerhill's points haul from last season but again Yates still has plenty of race days left to at least change that perception.
John St Ledger in Team Bunzl-Centrica and Team U25
Only just now noticed this write-up. Amazing work.
Horrible performance by Koretzky, only 10 points better than Soulious. The only positive in that is that Soulious should become a much better rider next season.
A first monument for the team, a first for De Bie, and the completion of the Ardennes treble! Thanks for the congratulations everyone, an unexpected but very welcome result. Thanks also for the report!
