Hello I'm back! 
Had to make sure I don't miss all of Demare's GT, and boy was it worth the return!
Of course there were plenty more stage wins possible, but the sheer consistency he displayed in the first 8 stages was amazing to see, Demare doing Demare stuff.
The maglia ciclamino always has priority for me over the stage win count for historical reasons, so I'm happy with how the first week played out.
Grosu is still in the mix for the jersey though even at nearly 90 points down thanks to four flat stages being left compared to only one hilltop finish. We can't afford any major slip-ups.
Whatever happens in the second part of the race, I'm satisfied with how well my GT planning has worked out.
The Giro looked so juicy for a punchy sprinter, and it delivered just fine. No breakaway wins, no stupid splits, very few unrealistic situations.
And we have a sprint train! Good work by Niu and Steimle so far, and by Madouas to set up bunch finishes.
Also, Paddy Bevin won a Grand Tour stage!

I was hoping you would not miss this iconic moment, after all the talks we had about this lad. Pretty sure he never would have a won a GT stage with us, so I guess it's fine how things went eventually
Nice to see you back, cio! Since I've had a longer abscence last season, I know the "hard way" back to commenting/being active. You would have surely been missed, if you didn't come back. And I'm sure you don't have to fear disbanding at this point

Thanks for all the comments, good to hear from Cio and Bikex. Just waiting for Jaxika to surface and appreciate Galta along with the heavy coverage provided to his American domestique.
Re: Madrazo, agree that flat has a disproportionate effect on climbers and that is part of his issue. Farantakis definitely suffering from being 4th best sprinter.
Today will be a rest day as it got kind of late here and just realized I have fixes to do on the stage report. Should be back with S11 tomorrow.

At the moment im very happy for how the race is going.
Galta racing very proactive, some misses here or there but mainly flawless. Attacking, sticking, it seems he knows what he doing. GC wise every possible scenario between top 10 still possible, but i hope for a higher placing.
The team behind him is just doing wonderful job. It was a joy seeing 5 riders at the front of the peloton. McNulty and Stancu staying and helping with Galta its a great job too.
Finally, LoCicero chipping some minor points and working at the front of the peloton is good tó se.
The reports. Class work. Very detailed, very interesting, and the most important, I think every manager cane find at least one of hes riders. Thanks! |

Lecuisinier once again the strongest. GC looks good now, hopefully we also start to control the break better in the remaining mountain stages.
The team performs a bit less dominant than in last years Vuelta but hopefully that will change if we get challenged a bit more down the line.

First of all, thanks for the three phenomenal mountain stage reports, Ulrich. Always had me on the edge of my seat, even though a certain rider underperformed a bit (or at least performed worse than I hoped).
Kelderman has been doing quite decent this Giro I'd dare to say. After winning a hilly stage he has been on the attack in all mountain stages now, twice by himself and one time as a domestique. He really did very well to finish third on the stage today, definitely a result to remember as well. Seems like he does better in GT mountain stages than in C1 hilly classics 
Munoz was in the break only once, and I had good hopes of a decent result for him with three strong domestiques next to him. Must have had a bad day though, as he was only able to finish thirteenth in the end. Hope that he can get some vengeance in a later mountain stage. Not saying a win is mandatory to make his race a success, but it sure as hell will need to be better than 13th (although I have to admit it would have been better, had the break been allowed some more freedom).
Just over halfway the race now, and it seems unimagineable for someone to take over PHL's throne. Congratulations to all mountain stage winners in the last three days, and once again a big thank you to Ulrich for the amazing work.

Another very nice report. Well done!
A bit underwhelming that we don't decide to put Mavrikakis in any early breaks. The late one definately didn't do anything and he's so far back in the GC that I don't see any reason for holding back.
Giannoutsos blew up on stage 10 after a very nice stage 9, which is a bit worrying seeing that his physical stats should suit these multiple days out in the break well enough. He shouldn't be worse than Smith in that regard, although the latter is obviously faster and better equipped for the KOM fight.
Just gotta keep my fingers crossed that at some point we'll get it just right, otherwise this will be a very bad outing for us.

Nice to see my team continuing to be present in breaks in the mountain stages. Bevin wouldn't be my first choice to send, but he did well with his 4th place. Fung now made it into the top 30 as our third rider which is also to my liking, as well as us being competitive in the team classification. |

In some ways, that was a pretty nice stage for us - Ndayisenga showing himself as a domestique for the first time and keeping up for a while, Madrazo being aggressive somewhat early. In most ways though, it was pretty terrible  Madrazo continues to lose time against riders he shouldn't (well, theoretically shouldn't), the podium is now more than 4 minutes away. But perhaps the gap starts to grow big enough that he'll eventually be allowed to go into an early breakaway and do some damage from there. Doing that and maybe, just maybe, getting a stage win from it would be my best case scenario at this point and would redeem the entire race for us. But it is a big ask, I'm aware of that.
Some interesting rides on the day. Very strong from Galta and Hirt, while Bernal is showing a bit of weakness. In general, it's a really interesting dynamic with Lecuisinier in yellow and so dominant that he doesn't have to work much. I'm curious how that will continue to affect the other contenders.

This was not a race for us to look at the overall so not a lot has been going for us apart from a few decent stage results from our boy Cullaigh. It's a shame he has just missed out on a stage win as well as I thought he timed his Sprint to perfection. Otherwise, the race hadn't gone completely to plan as Kennaugh has only been active in one stage and Pidcock was totally silent during the first week which is a big shame as I certainly wanted him to join breaks and maybe fight for a stage that way but nothing has happened in his race so far.
Lecuisinier predictably is winning so far and I don't see it changing but for some quirck of the AI to Rob him really. Good planning I'd say on behalf of Evonik I have to say which makes me nervous about the strength of the other GTs really.

Wow, early Christmas present!
Very well done by Van Poucke, getting in the breakaway on a mountain stage where he had a chance to compete, as Smith, Amezawa and similar superior climbers didn’t have an interest.
This makes the Giro a success for us, which is far more than hoped for only being halfway through the race. Having two riders in the 50s points region in the KoM standings also make me hopeful of more breakaway tries on the upcoming stages.

Crazy good Giro for us so far, Sivakov still going strong and Banaszek sprinting to a third place is also great. BUT the next two stages look really dangerous for Sivakov, who has the lowest Hill stat of all the GC riders. Stage 13 is al about good position and I wouldn't mind Stage 14 to go to the break away, if not Strakhov and Trakhov have to support Sivakov as much as possible.

Sorry for being so quiet the last few days but it's been a busy week. My boys haven't been much louder than me though. This Giro has been feeling very long for us. The reports have been great throughout though. Thanks for that UU!
