The yearly playground of the young and sprightly returns for another edition as the best U23 riders in cycling compete for the crown of who's the best of their age. Defending champion Nicola Conci will be watching from the luxury of his living (or wherever he prefers) to see who is takes over his crown.
This particular edition of this historic race will take the riders from Maurepas to Super Devoluy over nine stages and different kinds of profiles. There's something for everyone in this race, unless off course one prefers the cobbles!
| MON | TT | STA | RES | REC | Pogacar | 75 | 73 | 76 | 76 | 76 | Almeida | 76 | 69 | 73 | 75 | 74 | McNulty | 74 | 73 | 71 | 73 | 72 | Fouche | 73 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 73 | Elosegui | 72 | 68 | 73 | 76 | 78 | Hirschi | 72 | 65 | 76 | 75 | 73 | Valter | 72 | 65 | 74 | 72 | 70 | Pidcock | 71 | 69 | 71 | 73 | 68 | Schelling | 72 | 66 | 72 | 71 | 68 | Osorio | 72 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 69 | Leknessund | 70 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 70 | Munton | 70 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 72 | Phodingam | 73 | 61 | 68 | 69 | 69 | Ardila | 72 | 67 | 66 | 66 | 67 | Primozic | 71 | 64 | 75 | 74 | 75 | Verschaeve | 71 | 67 | 72 | 71 | 70 | Van Poucke | 72 | 63 | 67 | 70 | 65 | Pronskiy | 72 | 62 | 71 | 70 | 73 |
A look at the startlist shows a strong lineup with particular names taking precedence. Pogacar is the best all round rider in this race and should be the top favourite for the win. However, as we saw last year, that does not guarantee anything! Almeida is a better climber than his afore-mentioned rival but he does give up ground in other departments.
Leading the chase for podium contention is McNulty and Fouche, with the former's TT skills likely to help him a great deal in this aspect.
The next three - Elosegui, Hirschi and Valter - are nearly inseparable and should be the ones fighting for the Top 5. It will be interesting to see how Xero tackle their double leadership.
Rounding out the Top 10 contenders are the likes of Pidcock, another Xero contender, Schelling, Osorio, Leknessund and Munton. While the first three are better climbers, the latter duo are much stronger against the clock.
| FLA | TT | RES | Van Moer | 72 | 74 | 73 | Munton | 66 | 74 | 71 | Knotten | 68 | 74 | 67 | Pogacar | 68 | 73 | 76 | Hayter | 74 | 73 | 75 | McNulty | 70 | 73 | 73 | Bissegger | 71 | 73 | 73 | Brunel | 72 | 73 | 73 | Bjerg | 72 | 73 | 73 | Leknessund | 72 | 71 | 76 | Forssell | 64 | 71 | 69 | Perez | 68 | 71 | 68 | Stavrakakis | 72 | 71 | 67 | Herregodts | 72 | 70 | 73 | O'Brien | 70 | 70 | 72 | Vermeersch | 71 | 70 | 71 | Mayer | 67 | 70 | 70 | Arias Villanueva | 69 | 70 | 69 | Weemaes | 69 | 70 | 67 | Azparren | 65 | 70 | 65 |
Van Moer, Munton and Knotten are the top favourites in what could be a very close battle for the stage win on Stage 8. A whole host of other contenders, including top favourite Pogacar should be in contention for the stage win as well.
| MON | HIL | RES | ACC | Valter | 72 | 75 | 72 | 74 | Hirschi | 72 | 74 | 75 | 71 | Stannard | 69 | 74 | 73 | 74 | Mayer | 68 | 74 | 70 | 74 | Kron | 66 | 74 | 72 | 69 | Lyu | 70 | 73 | 72 | 71 | Pogacar | 75 | 72 | 76 | 69 | Van Poucke | 72 | 72 | 70 | 71 | Ardila | 72 | 72 | 66 | 68 | Pidcock | 71 | 72 | 73 | 76 | Kipkemboi | 70 | 72 | 71 | 72 | Lagane | 68 | 72 | 69 | 72 | Carr | 68 | 72 | 69 | 69 |
Valter is clearly the strongest puncher in the race, but the likes of Hirschi, Stannard, Mayer and Kron can run him close on their day.
| FLA | RES | SPR | ACC | Philipsen | 70 | 68 | 76 | 76 | Nur Hasan | 70 | 72 | 75 | 74 | Rodenberg | 70 | 73 | 74 | 75 | Rojus | 71 | 70 | 74 | 74 | Thijssen | 71 | 68 | 74 | 77 | Siric | 74 | 76 | 73 | 70 | Peak | 76 | 73 | 73 | 74 | Scott | 68 | 69 | 73 | 74 | Lagane | 68 | 69 | 73 | 72 | Walls | 68 | 67 | 73 | 72 | Gross | 68 | 71 | 72 | 73 | Forssell | 64 | 69 | 72 | 72 |
Two names feature prominently here as well. Philipsen is fastest man in the race, with decent support. Nur Hasan is the one closet to him, but with no support. Rodenberg, Rojus and Thijssen are the other riders likely to be in stage winning contention regularly.
| FLA | TT | RES | PRL | Van Moer | 72 | 74 | 73 | 74 | Hayter | 74 | 73 | 75 | 74 | Munton | 66 | 74 | 71 | 73 | Bjerg | 72 | 73 | 73 | 73 | Brunel | 72 | 73 | 73 | 73 | Stavrakakis | 72 | 71 | 67 | 73 | Herregodts | 72 | 70 | 73 | 73 | Pogacar | 68 | 73 | 76 | 72 | Bissegger | 71 | 73 | 73 | 72 | Vermeersch | 71 | 70 | 71 | 72 | McNulty | 70 | 73 | 73 | 71 | Leknessund | 72 | 71 | 76 | 71 | Forssell | 64 | 71 | 69 | 71 | Perez | 68 | 71 | 68 | 71 | Mayer | 67 | 70 | 70 | 71 | Rojus | 71 | 66 | 70 | 71 |
Van Moer and Hayter will be the ones most looking forward to taking the jersey on Stage 1. Munton, Bjerg, Brunel and Stavrakakis look likely to be their closest competition.

We have a whole team here again, but as usual, no actually contenders on most terrains. Instead, lots of guys trying to prove they deserve full contracts and can be viable domestiques long term.
Maybe Forssell can surprise in a sprint, as he at least made the list. Other than that, it's going to be all breakaways for us, and that's fine, as long as we go for it! Hoping Cannister in particular shows off for the crowds.
Pogocar should be the clear favorite, but I'll be pulling for McNulty.
Thanks for the preview!

T3A with a full team for the first time in years!
Meyer matches up well in this field, could be in the hunt for a stage win or two. Lagane also a possible factor. Dekker also can mix in the sprints despite missing the preview cut-off. Just a range of options for get into breaks and see what happens.
Plus Perez & Morales Ortega on our friends at Volcania-Fox to cheer for.
Always a bit of a fun race

Does anybody know what the record for most consecutive years without an Avenir participation is?

As always excited for this race, should be fun, not a lot of expectations but certainly all of our guys, including Elosegui from Farfetch, are capable of getting involved here
Thanks for the preview and all the organising work Abhi, looking forward to the reports

Looking forward to compete in this race together with our friends from Sauber! Hoping to ride in the Team Switzerland shirts, though, and not in Jura - Fiat's.
It's definitely all-in for Hirschi in the GC; hopefully he can use the hills to his advantage. Of course it would be nice to get some good results from Bissegger and Brunel in the TT; last year's win by Mäder is still our only victory in that discipline.
And maybe Schmid can already get some good stage results from a breakaway - he's definitely been amazing this year so far!

McNulty's first chance to prove himself as a leader. Pogacar looks out of reach but a podium is the expectation. Team support isn't great, so hopefully that doesn't come back to bite him. Hopefully King Power's, Herregodts can take some pressure off in the TTs.
Thanks for the preview.

In game jersey's are the Swiss NCs. Didn't know how to change the mini jerseys for the thread.

Whoever I've sent to Avenir thus far through the years hasn't lived up to his stats. So I won't surprised if that continues even if Pogacar is meant to be the "favourite".
Looks like an "easy" race?
Thanks for organising and reporting this Abhi

Always a fun race to follow, thanks for taking it on Abhi! Looks like the best chances for a good result for Bralirwa - IsoMinions are for Bjerg in the time trials and Peak in the sprints, but I'm hoping we'll be active in breakaways, too.

Awesome preview
We got a guy for every terrain, so we'll be looking to get something here.
Allways a fun race with the mixed teams.
Good luck everybody!

Thanks for the great preview, Abhi! I hope Osorio and Ruiz can help Pogacar in winning Avenir, whereas the other Los Pollos' guys are free to attack as much as they want, so hopefully they do.

Thank you Abhi, this was a great read!
We have a full team of 22 year olds here, and don't expect much, but would be great to see the guys in some breaks and maybe even challenging for a stage win |

Felix Groß is our only participant here, likely in support of Rodenberg as part of our fruitful cooperation with Tryg.
I hope he can be a valuable addition to his sprint train and contribute to a couple of podium spots.
What a great generation at the top to follow in this race, Pogi vs McNulty will be thrilling to watch, and Pidcock as a dark horse on any stage certainly wants to get something out of this as well.
