Day 1:
You all arrive in the secluded valley after a long walk, ready to begin your new lives in a new settlement. All is peaceful as you begin the first meeting of your town! But what's this? A bearded figure comes over the horizon and walks towards you. Could it be Jesus?
Close, it's Waghlon! After his long-term seclusion from civilized society, he is ready to walk among us once more, and you welcome him into your town with open arms. What does this mean?

All seems well. But you have all heard the stories about the mafia targeting small towns such as yours. Surely it couldn't happen to you, though, right?

Not a 1000 word post but here we go:
Last game we saw quite a bit of chaos created by pressure on individuals to claim their role. Id like to move that discussion to the first 36ish hours of the first day: Do we want a massclaim on the first/second day?
I would like if everybody comments on that.
However:
- Please dont claim your role already. The mafia benefits the most if some claim and some dont because then they have a bigger information advantage and can potentially find the power roles of the town more easily without a lot of gain for the town. So please (also @ normal townies) dont give up your role too quickly unless we agree to do so together. Only exception: the politician can come forward if he wants.
I will share my thoughts on this at a later point.

I don't see what the benefit of a massclaim would be. The strongman means, the mafia then could kill off the town's power roles one by one and there are so many regular townies the chance to find the ones who claimed a wrong role is not particularly high.
So in my opinion a massclaim would clearly be a big mistake. I'm not sure why you'd even suggest that, knockout. Interested to hear what your thoughts behind that are. |

I'm going to stay with my main stance on no mass claims, mostly because I feel it puts the town at a huge disadvantage, firstly, if the detective claims, the doctor is pressured into protecting them, meaning the mafia can kill whoever they want provided the doctor isn't keen on playing super risky. If the Doctor claims, the mafia will always know when they are eliminated and once that happens they can once again kill whoever claims, whereas if the doctor never claims, the mafia can never be truly sure if they are alive or dead and a claimed detective might be able to go unkilled even without protection, because the mafia doesn't want to waste a night. This can also work in the inverse, like a couple games ago when the doctor was unrevealed but alive with 4 players left and the mafia lost because the doctor managed to save the obvious kill. This means that the doctor should usually not claim even if they are on the verge of being lynched!
On the tracker and politician I'm a bit less fussed, both are useful roles, but if we can confirm one without the mafia counter claiming (before any deaths happen), we can get somebody who the doctor can play 50/50s on protecting and the entire town can trust, though it's down to personal preference - as long as it's not both of them claiming as that puts too much pressure on the doctor, I'd say in this case it'd be the politician claiming as they're slightly less useful as they can't identify mafia, but I can see arguments for it being the tracker too.
That's not to say that a massclaim is necessarily bad as we can confirm players and increase our odds of a random lynch each night being correct, but it also means that we'll lose our most valuable players quickly.
Otherwise, I'd like to make the statement that always ends up being redundant every game that we really need to lynch somebody each day. Since the mafia is usually going to kill the least suspicious players, we often don't gain a ton of info from their kill and just lose a good player, while if we're at least lynching we at least force people to post (giving us more to analyse) and even if we fail to lynch mafia we remove suspicious players.

Not sure why reducing amount of 'possible evils' needs explaining, not sure why forcing people to share their results to further reduce that number needs explaining, it's a game of knowing who your teammates are and it helps tremendously rather than just guessing, basically. Increase your chances of winning

Would also like to point out that we should not all just let knockout take the 'leader' role again and listen to everything he says. His odds of being mafia are slim to none looking at the stats, but it is something to keep an eye out for.
Now, I don't know how I feel about everyone claiming their role on Day 1. Obviously, the mafia are not going to say "I am mafia." So we would just have 12+ people all claiming to be pro-town.
I also believe that every user should be given the opportunity to post something before we start lynching anybody without reason. Let's see who all comes forward in the next day or so. 96 hours is a long time for 1 day.
Also a heads up that I will not be online tomorrow because I am out traveling.

Think I backed role claiming last time, only the doc really benefits from anonymity in my opinion but the town seems to have backed the non-claim horse pretty early here so I wont rock the boat too hard.
I also want everyone to really take part in the discussion, over reliance on one person has really hurt town in the past (either waiting for their thoughts or focusing on one person to lynch a day) and it allows mafia to really hide among popular narratives that are beneficial to them.

No role claims. You want my reasoning, go see last game. It literally just makes targets of important people, and also makes lynching normal townies (who can't claim anything) a foregone conclusion.

I must agree with the no role claim, it would be a "pro-town" wallabalooza in here.
The long drawn out discussion last time had us take out several pro-town people for basicly no reason. We need to do better this time around.
