We're about to get the entire race ruined by a single rider.
Herklotz and Demare should've ripped this race to shreds, but I have to applaud eBuddy's idea of sending a monster that could lead the race from stage 1 to 11 while taking five stages along the way.
It begins...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Great stuff from Gunman, probably the first of only some minor points for us here A pity we can't win TTs anymore though. It's been a while (except for maybe one or two TTTs per season). Obviously a fair result here though.
Gesink delivers - strike one. Will be interesting to see if he can defend yellow in the hills then. An ever dangerous Yates and some other fast accelerating GC contenders could definitely do better at one point.
As for Jayco, I expect my riders to join breakaways. No excuses to not try.

Here I was hoping for a result that is nice for Strava. Here I go. A lot of minor points on the line for PCT teams, especially Berg is looking to score a scarily good amount of points here.

Nice from Reis.
Very uninteresting stage as always. We could remove this one in future editions. It adds nothing to the event imo. Especially when I don't bring Fiedler or Zmorka
Congrats alex. Let's see what this means for the rest of your race.

Well, nothing as expected in the opening prologue. But things are looking quite good for us, I really need a good race from him as well as from Vesely. Being 2nd best puncheur and sprinter in this race on paper needs to be converted into a success in this race.
Congrats to alex. Gesink's biggest competition should be his bike, gravity and assfault.

Of course Yates. Ayubuwan will be better than us just because of him
Good stage though. Smith doing fine in the break and Dyball finishing well inside the first chasing group. Can't really complain even with Yates likely to score huge here. What a beast he will be with training.

How did LLS possibly lose 3 whole minutes?! I mean even Rabottini made the normal peloton. :/
He better chase breaks now.

What on earth happened in the final kilometers there? Reading Beltran was in the bigger chase group with 5 kilometers left, 34 seconds behind E2, and then coming to the results to see him loose three minutes. That's probably our race ruined already, at least in terms of GC chances, which is very disappointing.
This was supposed to be a stage where Beltran made use of his strengths, not one where he looses the race and any chance of a top 5, and even a top 10 looks difficult now.
And congratulations on a huge win, jph27! Yates strikes again, punching well above his weight with another amazing performance. |

About this, I just checked my notes from this stage again. Even with two kilometers to go, the group of 21 were ahead of the peloton. I stopped tracking them once the fight for the win started. So not really sure what happened!

Disappointed to have lost the lead, but I guess Gesink should have won the stage to stay in yellow with the little gaps made in the prologue. Still, not good to lose time on the road as well. Anything that is lost as bonus seconds can be made up in the time - trial, but losing actually time is not good.

Really poor. Not in the break, and Watson failing to get inside top 60 in such a field is just not good enough.

Decent enough start for Nepomnyachsniy, hoping for a top 5, top 10 expected at least.

Decent start from Moazemi, getting himself a top 10. Unfortunately Rodrigues and Jang already lost much time, which reduces our options to only Moazemi.. |

Well, gratz on the victory jph!
Tough day for us. The Volta has always been a race where we tried to produce strong results, thus leaving the 2nd stage with all chances of a reasonable GC shattered is quite an upset. Even more so considering the influence these points will have on the final standings.
I feel ember's words too. I mean Reis is not a hilly specialist, but Beltran is a better puncheur than Yates, to whom he lost 3min... such nonsense.
Good report nontheless, Abhishkek. Thanks!

That was underwhelming all around. Herklotz stops sprinting and throws away the stage win and overall lead as well as white, Demare can't win the bunch sprint, Bongiorno gets dropped, Nerz gets dropped even harder. Nothing positive from that stage.

Nice to see Lundberg showing his face in the break. I wish he could have done better to get KOM points along the way, but beggars can't be choosers.

Before the race I was hoping Pantano Gómez wouldn't lose to much but since he's already 12 minutes behind I guess breakaways will be our main target. Don't know why I brought Drapac when there aren't that many flat stages and not really suited to his ability either.
Barton off to a nice result in the prologue!
Thanks AbhishekLFC for the reports so far

A fairly decent race start for chiarello, 8th at this stage is a lot better than I could think. If he can continue to minimize losses in this type of stages then a place in the final top 10 may well be possible
