Wow, I'm speechless!
Looking at this stage beforehand, I was worried he'd be conceding over 2 minutes, absolutely amazing that he can do the exact opposite and win the stage! i'm so stunned and happy with that result. I do feel a little bad about stealing an Eritrean win on home soil of course, but I feel much better about Kwiatkowski missing our own home tour, which seemed a necessary evil with the clash.
This has been a fantastic race and season start for us. Even today we got the bonus of seeing our only loan-in, the next Pluichkin, Padun in the break.
It's unfortunate for some riders losing big time though, Roche and Poljanski losing massive time is unfortunate, as well as many climbers performing way worse than they should.
Thank you for another top-notch report Roturn and thanks for all the congratulations that have already come in as I've been writing this post.

Everything is upside down in this race, now Kwiatkowski with a huge one.
Hope my riders will learn that kinda underdog behaviour.

The advantage of having just one mountain stage: you only need one good day.

Wow, certainly Kwiatkowskis race to lose now. Oustanding performace, huge congrats trek!
I'll count this as aa good day for Berg also, with three guys in the top 10. That's certainly their best shot at promotion, managing to use their depth in such a good way.
Became pretty good gaps in the end, will be interesting to see the devolpment in the GC on the hilly stages yet to come.

Argh, so close. A stage win here would have been amazing, and certainly deserved from the stage, and made up for inevitably losing the GC to Kwiatkwoski. But there is no consolation prize even, so Kudus will now have to outdo Kwiatkowski's overperformance on the Pole's preferred terrain.
Berhane adds to the disappointment by being so bad. At least he wasn't the leader here, but it throws away a great opportunity for a strong haul of points. Berg have managed that, but the hills may take it away from them.
Not heading towards a perfect race then, but by far the best Tour of Eritrea we've ever had, so that's the main thing!

My excitement after the preview has quickly turned into deception. I would be surprised Úran will be able to gain places in the next stages unless a big crash occurs. For now I hope Drapac can do something in stage 5 and otherwise breakaway attempts, preferably with Weiss. But the main points scoring opportunity here is gone.

Wow, perfect stage for us. Schelling finishing 3rd and gaining so much time is very much better than I could have realistically asked for, and it puts him in a prime position. Frank leading the KoM is a bonus as well!
Congrats to our surprise winner trek and Kwiatkowski, he must have to try to lose it now.

Kwiatek already proves his status as absolute favourite.
Also good stage for Pinot, Berg and Schelling who is the biggest winner of the stage imo.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

three in the top 10??? is something that I gladly accept, if Marquez and Nazaret do not surprise me, Chiarello is a very pleasant surprise since with 76 on hills it is quite capable of maintaining this position.
Yet I would have liked to see the team do more in front of the race because with 3 in a group of 11 we could and we should have avoided some of the attacks that have removed us better positions.
The next stage does not worry me much but the last leaves me apprehensive because it is a stage with many hills and that can harm both Marquez and Nazaret..
The final victory is practically delivered, only a disaster could prevent Kwiatkowski's victory

Well stage 2 went quite well with Itami in 2nd, but Hiratsuka and Gilanipoor both being dropped on the mountain is annoying, as I feel they both could have hung on for Top 30~ finishes.

Ji have been doing his job almost to perfection so far, even withouth support from Choi. I hope he can go on to climb a place on the GC ranking to finish top 5 in the end |

Nice win for trek, looking good for the overall.
Predicted Hirschlein to be top 30 and he is 30th!
Great to see Denz in the break going for some KOM points, something to cheer at least.

Well damn congrats trek! Round 1 of Kwiat vs Roglic is all yours
But I really can't hide that it's pretty disappointing to see Roglic just losing 2 minutes and a half like that on Kwiat who has -1 in MO, finishing 2 minutes behind someone like Schelling who is practically slightly worse than Rogla on paper but pretty much the same rider. I guess that's what bad form compared to your opponents does to your chances.
9th in GC, should he keep that is, not gonna lie, very disappointing considering I really would have liked a top 5 out of this. But the race is long and there's a few important hilly stage where he could make up a few GC places. Not really counting on it tho considering the riders he has ahead of him. Thanks roturn for the great quality reports as always.
