Some Races still need a suited name as you will quickly notice as right now they mainly are named according their country and type.
There are many new races, some races from 2016 did not find a spot on the 2017 calendar unfortunately and lots of category changes as well obviously with a new PTHC category as also the will to give every single team some kind of home race, which forced some swaps of race category.
In total though I think, its a very balanced schedule for all kind of rider types. |

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but all classic is 2 RD, so it is 1 stage, but counts as 2 race days.

That is correct. Classics count as 2 RD.

6 Stage Races with 36 rd in total.
8 classics with 16 rd in total (of which one is an ITT event).
Add
9 C2HC stage races with 46 rd.
7 C2HC classics with 14 rd.
So it`s imo quite balanced and also keep in mind CT teams can (or probably better will) ride some of the C1 races as well. |

Thanks for the work into a interesting looking calendar.
Most my favorite PT races got "downgraded" to PTHC though  Nice to see Volta Portugal upped though .

And where's Tour of Éire? Last year was on the calendar - I know that for sure.
Also the C2HC events for me are lacklustre - dunno, IMO it'd be better if we can choose 2 groups of C2HC races

One main reason for a strict C2HC schedule is that we get less and less reporters and hence it`s difficult to keep a decent pace during the season.
This won`t become better I think this season.
With a strict C2HC schedule all 60 rd there will be 24/24 at the moment with 24 CT managers.
If we make it bands again. e.g. 2/4 we would have an average of 12/24 teams in the races only and hence would need far more races to report.
This way the CT teams remain at 115-120 rd`s but at the same time we were able to cut some races, to make it easier for reporters.
FBD Eire was one race to be cut (which is also due to the Irish team disbanding).
But therefore a replacement is on the schedule!
In C2HC Course de Solidarnosc is a full flat race while Circulo de Juarez in C2 is as well.
It`a probably quite difficult to have a balanced C2HC calendar and also make it 100% interesting for all teams.
Though it`s same situation for every CT manager and can also lead to interesting tactics.
In the end it`s only half your race days and the other half can be used in your favourite races. |

It's a bit of a shame to see the Tour of the Middle East get dropped as I think it's been on the calendar for at least 5 seasons but I can understand why it has been due to it's length and there not being a team focussing on the region.
I'm guessing the hill in the San Marino Hill Classic is Monte Titano if you want to base the race name around that instead of how it's currently named.
So every C2HC race is mandatory for C2 teams this year if understand correctly?
If so then it might mean we get some more well rounded teams with a leader on all terrains and less teams specialising on 2 terrains and having massive depth on them and it would be interesting to see how the 2 strategies fare in comparison this year.

It's very strange to be looking at PCT stuff instead of CT stuff after all this time. It seems PCT allows a lot more flexibility, especially now.

Well, this kinda sucks - being forced to compete in a race you're not interested. But you can't satisfy everyone, what you gonna do?
The problem is that this is 60 RD. If I choose Tour of America (CT GT-esque race) which is 21 RD you have 39 RD to spare. And what about CT teams that want to participate in C1HC races with wildcards? Not that I'll use this.
And with that I made huge mistake by doing the renewals too early. Hopefully my ICL csampaign fares better (wishful thinking)

The race category and function of C2HC was posted in the info thread several days back already.
C1HC wildcards might be available. No changes there from last year.
PT is running with a full strict mode for years successfully. Got opened up minimal since last year in hc only.
CT still has lots of freedom in comparison.
In the end with band system there still was a very high chance of specific races not suiting your team.
But with full freedom many races would have like 8 teams on the startlist and this just makes it impossible to report as it`s like 100-150 race days more to play with same amount of race days for each team.
Last year btw. CT teams had 60 rd for free C1/C2 picking as well. Didn`t hinder several teams to take part in the Tour of America. So no changes at all there really. |

I think it is a good decision to streamline the game a bit. There's a huge amount of volunteer work involved for organizers and reporters. If they get burned out, the game is dead.

I have a idea that may shake things up. While this may seem far stretched up, but it's an idea nonetheless - how about Race Day Trade. This will be only for C1 & C2 HC events (I assume the C1HC are compulsory for PCT). Each PCT & CT team would nomminate races that in total don't excede 25% of the HC RD they need to cover. Trades can only be made if the RD value equals the RD of the traded races. Trades can be made between 1 CT and 1 PCT. Like this
CT X trades Race A (5 RD) and Race B (3 RD) for Race C (6 RD) and Race D (2 RD) from PCT Y.
I may make some tests on the system. The idea will effectively replace the band/wildcard system for C1 & C2 HC races and will give more freedom for teams to choose other races.
NOTE: This is just mere proposal. It's not meant to be implemented in any form.
