Looking forward to see whether the great support of GVA will help him to beat Bewley for the first time on the cobbled roads. Don't think he deserves the rainbow jersey after the controversial upgrade in last offseason but I would take it anyway.
I'm also hoping to see a Latvian, Dzamastagic and / or Stoltz in the break. Gotta show that they belong to the world elite. ^^
I'm not that interested into the other races. The B Worlds the only other one i'm kinda looking forward in the hope of seeing Kulppi, Bagdonas and Marzuki at some points.
To the TTT selection: I thought it was very difficult to select for it without knowing the exact route and therefore having no idea how important the cobble stat will be and whether there are hills on the way. I went with a high importance and am pretty surprised that guys like Gilbert werent selected as he has a decent cobble stat alongside a great FL-CB-HI combo
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

No expectations at all, we'll just see what our riders do here

I would love to see fiedler be crowned world champion, unfortunately I do not think it will be this time. That cobble sections although they are small, are going to be a problem in many of the candidates.

Bulgaria in the Elite worlds, still can't believe it! Hopefully Hristov or Grashev will try and attack to at least be visible and justify their inclusion in the race.
G won't be GB team leader but if it comes to a group finish he can mix it up given the chance, so hopefully we'll see him kicking around.
Wolverine as the USA's only U23 rider, and he could go well. He's had a good strong year, would need luck to win the race but he could manage it. Also Ewan isn't useless on the cobbles but don't expect much from him.
Can't wait for some exciting races!

Should be some great races, especially the B RR looks hard to predict. For my own riders I just hope to see someone. On one of his best day Kulppi could be in the mix for the B-race, but I don't expect as much.
Somewhat surprised not to see Paillot mak the French TTT-team. but I guess the selectors put a bit more emphasis on cobble-stats than I did.

It's very unrealistic to expect another great result like Sella's silver medal last year, but by having two team leaders in Franzoi and Nepomnyachsniy I can at least hope for some good showing by my riders. I'm also looking forward to see how Chun Wing Leung will do in the U23 ITT. |

Summerhill likely has his last chance to do something big here while still technically and Azteca rider, so hoping for the best for him (the rainbows would help his value nicely I think).

Can't wait to see what the budding cobble youngster Marcos Altur can do. His best result of the year was a 10th at P-R, so not great.
A chance to redeem himself on the biggest stage.

No Tom David in the TTT is a clear example of people wanting their own riders to ride no matter what.
I don't understand what's wrong with this though. Of course people are going to be more inclined to chose their riders over other teams' riders. That's what I did too when I was a selector - if a couple of riders were near equal I'd go with mine.
And I don't see how Tom David (65TT! I know he is good on cobbles and hills but that's a quite a low TT stat) is such a big surprise. Langeveld not being in the Dutch squad for the RR is an anomaly, Tom David not being in the Kiwi TTT squad is not.
I disagree. If people pain the slightest amount of attention they would see that what is needed for a cobbled TTT is cobblers, not TTers. We can just take a look at TONE to see that.
If riders were equal, I agree with you, but this is a matter of not paying attention, or not giring a flying f...

But are you all sure there actually was a selection for the NZL TTT team? For the Norwegian team there was none, assuming it was sorted out by those doing all the behind the scenes work. |

Norway was reserve selection. NZL was from beginning.
In general more selectors would have helped. Some Nations only had 1 selector. Most only 2. |

TONE was around 35% cobbled and this one is around 5-10% cobbled so it's probably not the best guide but David probably should be riding still not the end of the world though Sotd it's not like he's missing the RR |

La Poste only really have riders in the Worlds B race and only really 2 riders that can perform 'well' on cobbles. Just hope that PCM doesn't make Bakari the leader on the road and goes with Ngamdamba as leader given his better back up skills.

As always, not much hope for anything from our guys. Disappointed Boonen wasn't picked for his last race, but obviously it's understandable why. Looking forward to the racing nonetheless.

Kind of a shame a couple managers didn't nominate their strong TT riders for Hong Kong, and Free Agents had to be used, otherwise I think they would do alright in the TTT, but now Im not so sure.
Actually kind of forgot there were cobbles in the TTs but all 3 nominated riders were automatically picked so thankfully it was impossible for me to mess that up

WC races should make for compulsive viewing - good courses and interesting start lists. My congratulations to the race organisation committee . Shame many good riders missing due to lack of nominations, I guess points in large part to those managers who have lost interest as the season progressed. The TTT perhaps most influenced by this, so a few nations likely will be out of position to previously (disappointingly Colombia did not even qualify to ride this year ).
From a WCC perspective, our development team status is reflected in a good number of riders in the U23 race which should provide even more interest for team managment. None are outstanding favourites, but have basic all round skills such that they should not disgrace themselves. In the main event, Robert Bush gets the chance to work in tandem with Danny Summerhill as opposed to against him as in this seasons visits to C1 cobbled races. The Bewley vs Summerhill, vs. GVA and his Belgian teamies battle is a mouth-watering prospect.

Unfortunately, I timed my busy week so well that I completely missed the WC selections, and hence all my riders are missing...
I reckon we would have had quite a few in the ITT/TTT and a couple in the RR with Teunissen being NED's captain probably but what can you do, sorry to whoever I let down for this reason
Good luck to all teams here! This is going to be very entertaining I guarantee.

Looking at the betting for the ITT surely Cancellara is a cracking bet at 18.00 to take the title i'd think he'd have more chance then say a Spilak at 5.00 |

Pretty cool B race there. Lots of "small" names but interesting racing.
Zhupa might have been the strongest but Saber was the smartest while Bakari showed an impressive performance but obviously lacks a bit when it comes to acceleration/stamina and all the other basics next to just riding over cobbles.
Deserved winner in the end I guess and now Saber will lead his Moroccans in the Elite RR as well.
Thanks for the Worlds opener, The_Hoyle. Very nice read. |
