Meanwhile, Velo d'Or isn't won by the TDF winner, which just goes to show how ridiculously good Sagan has been this year!

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sagan...-velo-dor/

Froome is 2nd and Quintana 3rd.

Also, Veelers retires because of a persistent knee injury.

Been waiting for Inrng to post his take on this. As usual, nicely balanced and worth the read.
https://inrng.com/2016/12/uci-china-de...ment-deal/

It's an interesting topic. At a base level, yes it's a clear money move by the UCI. But there's more subtly and politics behind it all. Going to watch how various other parties react to this one

The fricking UCI back at it again with the Chinese commie bastards right after the stunning success of the Tour of Beijing.

Looks like they've learnt the lesson when it comes to the race.
Outscourced it all so no cost to the UCI, they won't be losing money on it. They've moved it far away from Beijing to what is apparently a rather nice area that is a popular tourist location. And the rumor is already stong Wanda will be paying big money to get big riders to turn up (like huge participation rewards, really sizable ones).

And lets face it. China is a huuuuuge market for cycling. It's already a massive transport method so it's no surprise to see the UCI try and push that way. The major manufacturers will support the move, helping get big riders out there.

More annoying is that the UCI will fast-track the Mens race into being and not the Womens. Especially at a time when the UCI is trying to push through making all major races provide a Womens version as well...

Makes sense with the new chinese team to also have a chinese race. It can only turn out better than the useless beijing race.

I have an important message to people of China, the ruling communist party and UCI:

Spoiler

I'll be back

It's inevitable that the UCI has moved into China. Cycling isn't a cash rich sport and so the UCI has to chase the money around the world. The last decade or so has seen races spring up in Australia, USA/Canada, Britain, the oil rich Middle East and now China. Not to mention the controversial Bahrain project.

There's also a saturation of events in Europe meaning that countries like Germany are stopping holding events and races like the Crit International have become extinct due to lack of money and interest.

I don't know where they can possible go next though as the well has been drained by this stage. I can't think of any more rich countries they could try to move into. Japan possibly? Does Russia have any significant cycling events?

I don't get this. Ok the Meldonium situation is a sh*t show in its own right in general. But stripping results without any saction, even a counted back one, is just plain ridiculous.
Either he did something wrong and should be punished accordingly, or he did nothing wrong and shouldn't be punished at all.
Not this pathetic halfway measure that does neither.

And for clarity: Same thing for Sergey Shilov, Marcin Polak and Michal Ladosz. All Meldonium. All on the Sactions list with no actual punishment but removal of a couple of results.
They're on te Official actual UCI Sanctions list. The official document that shows all the bans, including people like Armstrong. But they are not sanctioned.

Tour de l'Eurométropole becoming 1.HC next season. A day before, a new race, the Omloop Eurometropool - the most original name ever - at 1.1 will be added. A ''GC'' of these two races will be made. And this is really one hell of a weird construction IMO
