Favourites:
| MNT | HIL | Dowsett | 65 | 80 | Barbin | 68 | 78 | Lejman | 65 | 77 | Hategeka | 72 | 77 | Diggle | 65 | 77 | Pavarin | 69 | 76 | Yates | 70 | 76 | Othman | 68 | 76 | Nzeke | 72 | 76 |
For third running, down in Africa, the Giro del Capo is back. With Klemme notable by his absence the favourite mantle drops on Dowsett. Riding for a strong African team the motivation will be there and it looks like he will take some stopping after his slow start to the season seems far away now. Plenty of the stages, well all of them, suit the very strong Ferrero - Samruk: surely a high GC placing and a stage win is the minimum for them. Rwandan Hategeka may be motivated for another win after a great season so far, of the puncheurs he can climb the best.
| MNT | HIL | Antón | 78 | 73 | Pomoshnikov | 78 | 74 | Battaglin | 77 | 72 | Martinez | 76 | 72 | Ivanov | 76 | 74 | Baz | 75 | 71 | Zoidl | 75 | 74 | Gerdemann | 74 | 74 |
In past editions of this race, stage 4 has proved to be the pivotal stage GC-wise. However, if a large group comes together then the mountain time trial may decide the GC. Antón, no.2 in the rankings, might well be on for the stage 5 win and perhaps the GC. With no cat.1 climbs, however, this course could well suit an all-rounder like TT champ Zoidl.
Sprinters:
| FLT | HIL | SPR | ACC | Stauff | 74 | 65 | 80 | 81 | Drapac | 71 | 53 | 80 | 79 | Soupe | 72 | 66 | 79 | 77 | Gavazzi | 71 | 73 | 78 | 74 | Galimzyanov | 70 | 67 | 77 | 74 | Bole | 71 | 74 | 76 | 74 | Favilli | 71 | 75 | 76 | 74 |
Top sprinter Stauff is here. With no certain sprint finishes, will he and the other sprinters regret this trip?

I hope the game will see I intend Martinez for GC leader here instead of mister "I can only ride up a hill" Lejman. Drapac for the sprints might be a gamble but with 2 top notch sprinters I could send one to every flat race in the calendar. Not a strong field for sprinters so I hope he can win a stage

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Had race days to spare for Soupe, so worth the risk on the sprints. Here for stage wins rather than GC ambitions. Yates can go well on the hills, and with his kick has to be an outside option on the flater days of the race. But yeah, not the highest of expectations.

I kind of regret not coming here. Docker could have maybe actually done something here with his mtn/hill, but instead I overestimated him and sent him to flat sprints where he was actually drunk on the bike or something.
But most of all I regret it because I regret every CT race where I don't get to see my team riding.

All about Dowsett as we come here with a goal of a Top 10 on GC. In hindsight, I could have been a bit more bold, but this was a quick replacement for an incorrectly submitted goal.
Hoping for gaps coming into the MTT, and I think Alex will struggle. The absence of Klemme is a shock, but as others have shown in other races, Dowsett will need to perform.
Thanks for the preview TR

^ You also have Baz! He looks like just as good of a bet as Dowsett for a top 10.

I thought that I've sent a strong team, but then I took a look at MOL, who are here with their 1A team. Pomoshnikovs presence might hurt my Stage & GC ambitions with Anton a lot, at least they could well work together for reducing time losses on the hilly stages...
Bole against Favilli is the most interesting battle for me this tour...

That will depend on the gaps over the hills, but a nice plan B. I have a feeling that PCM will have him as an early domestique for Alex

Barbin for the win imo, maybe Hategeka, last season it was Der and Vastaranta who contested it so really for the puncheurs. Thanks for the preview TR!

I really should have brought either Kung or Hugentobler here. I think Kung would have put time into the other punchers in the MTT and Hugentobler has surprised me by being a beast on the hills so far this year and it is a shame I didn't foresee it and use all his race days (he had 9 left so easily could have been here instead of Forcellini or Schurter).
I think I must have mistaken the MTT for an ITT when doing my planning to have sent Zoidl to lead instead of Kung but hopefully it will work out ok for us anyway and I think we could still end up with a top 10 GC out of it.
If we are lucky then we'll have the depth to allow Forcellini an attempt at the KOM jersey or at least a break on one of the hilly stages, it just depends on how much of a GC threat or leaders are considered to be as to whether he'll get the freedom or have to work for them.

Diggle over Nzeke for leader it is then, with my bad planning it'll be a long race crawling to a hopeful top 10 to complete our goal and, in my wildest dreams, a stage.

Didn't fancy the MTT for Klemme so he has been sent to Poland instead. GC hopes are with Gerdemann.
Stauff will need to find some climbing legs to make the trip worth it and he only has 1 leadout man.
Not sure this was my finest hour of race planning!

Setting pace seemed pretty wasteful there, Schleck 25th our highest finisher? No GC damage which I guess is nice. Beautiful screenshots and report as ever TR

A wild Avila appears, nice to see him in a stage that would suit him more than Drapac!

at least Bole starts to sprint now, nice to see...had hopes when I saw the stage length and Pibernik in the breakaway, but no
Stage 3 might be a crucial one for us with chances for Bole, but the priority to keep Anton safe

We've survived the flat stages in one piece and even managed to get into today's break and steal some bonus seconds with Maccagli but the race proper is only now beginning for us as we gear up for stage 3.
