I do realise we're having a solid season finale, but I'm still salty because of Benoot's spring classics injury and Felline's early season's one That said, Atapuma, Rosa and McLay were great choices.
At the moment, if we had a 100% compared to last season, we would be 2nd just behind trek! I know there's a few chances still to improve on that 90% but no way we're gonna reach dat 100% :V
About the transition to next year, I have a suggestion:
- The new top 25 guys go out, the 2015 top 25 come back in.
- Everyone who has a rider that made it into the 2016 top 25, gets a priority pick in the first round, with the higher ones starting (that would currently be Ulissi then Coquard then Chaves).
- Everyone loses their first round draft pick from last year automaticaly.
- If you want to keep a rider drafted in round x, you would lose your pick in round x-1, so if I want to keep my third pick, Debusschere, I cannot draft in round 2 for the upcoming season.
I think this gives fair compensation to the riders losing their top point scorer, allows you to keep the riders you really like if you're willing to take a penalty and it also enables new players to get a few good riders.
Not a good time for us in this one, as you can tell. It's my fault for picking a few riders that dropped off much more heavily this year than I had supposed they would.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
Sort of disappointing to loose the lead now, but on the other hand it has always felt like my team has been overperforming, as my second pick, Pozzovivo, has been a no show through the whole season. Very happy with some of my later picks, like Holst Enger, Devenyns, Carthy, Craddock and Wisniowski. On the other hand some of my picks of more experienced riders went very wrong, like the mentioned Pozzovivo, Breschel and Nordhaug. Guess it should be all about the talents
@Ollfardhs Idea
Seems overly complicated to me. Adds a lot of extra thinking to participants, and to the organiser.
I would rather see everyone re-set, because this isn't a management game, back to nothing. And 2017 treated brand new.
Can't pick the Top25 of 2016. Can pick anyone else based on a random serpentine draft. Simple and we know it works well.
Can't believe we've moved up to first Can only lose that now though and the WC and end of season events could really shake things up at least between TMM, Ember and I.
Thanks a lot for another update Roturn, can't wait to see how the end of the season pans out.
I don't mind either way as long as I am not forced to keep Phinney. But I'd prefer to be able to at least keep one or two riders, otherwise it's a bit dull to go for young riders in hopes that they crack through.

The Tour of Hainan is more or less the last race of the season for this league. So expect the final result next week.
Regarding the new season please send me a PM in case you want to also take part in the 2017 Fantasy League. This goes for all existing league participants as also for all other members.
Regarding any take overs I actually tend to agree a lot with TMM. It`s a season game and hence 2017 should be seperate from 2016. So there is going to be a new draft from scratch in which you can pick your expected top scorers, favourite riders or talents/neo pros, where you expect a breakthrough season.
Everything else like taking over "random" riders from your actual team would make it just more complicate in the draft process as some might want to keep their 7th round and others the 20th round. So balancing would be less easy.
Obviously the top CQ riders will be changed depending on the 2016 CQ ranking! So some riders might be draftable while others aren`t. Still need to calculate though if some kind of 3 year average is easy to use as this would give a more realistic top CQ scoring potential (e.g. Degenkolb would not be in the top25 2016 but surely will be a potential top25 rider in 2017. So taking also the 14/15 seasons would at least work out a bit better I think).
There is no exact time frame yet but as the draft will take some days/weeks and the new season is starting in January, it`s 2 months left for all off season stuff.

Here we go, the final Ranking Update of the Year 2016. And a huge shuffle happend in Octobre!
The order was trekbmc, TMM, ember and jseadog1 withing ~400 points. So while ember and trekbmc really already stopped their season it seems, TMM scored a lot better to defend the position against ember but not enough to attack trekbmc.
The huge last minute rush though came from jseadog1. His riders performed as if it`s mid season and they were peaking for the races. And hence as month top scorer he goes past ember, flies past TMM and also passing trekbmc to take the lead and the win of the 2016 PCM.Daily Fantasy League! Congrats for that!

SN, bbl and Mars all with decent months also move up while matt drops down a lot.
At the bottom no changes. jihardy is losing (as expected du to late entry) while sgdanny, lakebeach and sutty all keep their late spots. NicoVirenque after a huge January/February dropped with every month and is also finishing way below.
Tallented teams such as Ollfardh`s or Shonak`s also in the later half while alexkr00, Roman and jph27 showed to have picked a bit better in this department.
And a mainly Spanish team of Bikex had good months but too many fails in Spanish races to be at the very top.
Surprisingly many teams of the top draft positions failed as their 1st round pick didn`t deliver. trekbmc as 8th pick the first to enter the top5. The other top5 managers all had picks in the 2nd half only and this way might have gotten a bit more depth instead a top top rider.

As in most updates Ollfardh has the lead in the percentage ranking, hence has picked really well even though missed the top scorers to also finish that high in the total rankings.
Though he was hugely attacked by SN in the last month and almost lost it here.
About half the league picked a team which performed better as in 2015 while quite a few got a team of underperformers. That said jseadog1 and TMM with their "2015 CQ is all what counts" teams show that scoring high can be better than being better as the 2015 score. In comparison the best team in 2015 had over 10000 points while the winner jseadog1 in 2016 has only a bit more than 8000 points. So probably a more balanced scoring this year.
Peter Velits might have won this ranking here but just like in recent seasons he is only a shadow of his former self. 51 points in total is less than most riders have in a WT team.
Jeannesson, Pardilla, Petit, Kittel and the others a lot better performance wise and in total score as in 2015! Those are the real overperformers.
To be fair on some of those. If you repeat your high scoring of 2015 such as Majka or Boonen, you surely are no underperformance. So the clear underperformers start a bit lower. Still the total 2016 scoring was less than in 2015 and hence they land in this list.
It will be interesting to see the biggest underperformers in 2017 and what performance they are going to show then.
Intxausti, Landa, Arredondo, Kiserlovski, Machado, Spilak, Theuns, König, Taaramae to name a few that surely can deliver a lot more than their 2016.
Some more stats:
- The two best scorers both got picked in the 3rd round only!
- Boasson Hagen as 4th best scorer is the first of the 1st round
- Just 4 riders of the first round even made it into the top10
- Dupont was picked late in round 22 and is in the top20 scoring!
- The 1st round ranges from 232 - 1348 points which Phinney being the weakest clearly
- The 1st round`s average (Boasson HAgen, Chaves, Cavendish) is the highest followed by round 3 (Ulissi, Nizzolo, Izagirre...) and then round 2 (Coquard, Demare, Boonen)!
- Round 12 and 22 are incredible strong (12: Brambilla, Dumoulin, Gavazzi; 22: Dupont, Devenyns, Bennati)
Damn, so close to that win but losing out at the last moment. Congrats of course to Jesadog on the win.
Really pleased with how the depth of our team payed off, Cancellara of course a massive scorer but the rest of the team went really well, our Brits Swift, Yates and Cummings of course as well as Situsou surprisingly top 10 in the Giro, but also those riders like Gavazzi, Marezko, Feillu, Finneto, Drucker, etc. who scored decently in a lot of races rather than going big in one.
Thanks a lot for the game Roturn, already looking forward to next season, even though I will be nowhere near repeating the performance!
Thanks a lot for this year and I will definitely try my best in draft 2017. Middle of the table, but bottom 3 in % of 2015... Lame from me as always . Bad picks as always.
VAN GARDEREN Tejay
My nr. 1 Pick, it was make or break for him this season. While guys like Chaves and the Super Yates Bros had their big breakthrough, Tejay was a major disappointment. Definitely a wasted top pick.
JUNGELS Bob
This guy did have his breakthrough with a fantastic Giro, would love to keep him on the team next year, as he should only get better. Just one rider we can keep, please?
DEBUSSCHERE Jens
He had a good season if you count out his injury during the classics, although taking him as 3rd round pick may have been to soon. I'll let him pass, because of the injury
LANGEVELD Sebastian
They say cobblers get better as they get older, well this one doesn't. Most points he got was from finishing TW races somewhere in the pack. Another wasted pick on 4th place.
CIMOLAI Davide
This guy I have no idea what went wrong, he looked like a promising sprinter, but achieved close to nothing this year. So that's 3 useless riders in the first 5 rounds, should be happy I didn't finish last I guess.
SENECHAL Florian
He had a good season, but maybe like Debusschere I picked him a round too soon. Might be back on the team next year, cause there's definitely progress in him, he should race a bit smarter every now and then.
GROENEWEGEN Dylan
The best rider on the team this year. Even though he missed some wins in the early season, he was on a roll after that and totalled 1160 points. He'll be missed next year!
VANENDERT Jelle
Solid season after a few lesser years, though he really lacks a big result. Might come back next year, although it will be a big chance he has another absolute crap season.
STUYVEN Jasper
Okay, make that two riders I really want to keep. Huge win in Kuurne and solid results after that. Should be even better next year with Cancellara retiring and Degenkolb a questionmark.
VANBILSEN Kenneth
Good rider, had a few good races, after that he was reduced to sprint train material for Bouhanni and didn't score much. I doubt he'll get a better role next year, so yeah.
DE VREESE Laurens
Great results on the cobbles and with Boom gone he might get a bigger role next year. Would love to keep him, so why am I writing all this positive stuff about my riders?
VERVAEKE Louis
Good season start for him, but after his injury he didn't get back into the good form. Looking forward to what he can do next year, hopefully still in my team.
MARKUS Barry
He had a good year once, surely he'll get a few results at PCT level. Or something like that I must have been thinking. Well that didn't work out, not taking him back for next year.
FENN Andrew
He's kinda fast, right? And Sky doesn't have that many sprinters anymore, right? So he should get his chances to sprint instead of just protecting whoever's the GC leader, right? Well ....
MARTINEZ Yannick
Wasn't the the next best thing at Europcar? Surely he'll get a few results at PCT level. Starting to sound familiar, eh? This is what you get for relying on foreigners.
JEANNESSON Arnold
But wait, did guy did splendid! Totaly revived his career at Cofidis and got me quite some points. I hope he can stay in the team, because I think he can doo even better.
VANTOMME Maxime
Once a promising sprinter at Katusha, so why not. When you this go down the picks, any rider that scores over 150 points is a success. Not sur eif he stays next year though.
STALLAERT Joeri
He's kinda fast, but in a crap team. I got to a point where team leaders were getting really rare, so I picked one last leaders before going to domestiques. He did ok.
DE TROYER Tim
Nope, this was a huge mistake. Was hoping he would be a team leader, but he just sucked the entire season. No, not giving this guy another chance next year.
POLS Ruben
At this point I wanted to add a rider that didn't score the previous season, but unfortunately he didn't score in this season either. A rookie timetrialist is always a risk, so this one's on me.
EIJSSEN Yannick
He's always been a decent rider at BMC, so he should be motivated as a team leader in a continental te.. AND HE RETIRES AFTER JUST A FEW MONTHS AND NO RESULTS.
HERKLOTZ Silvio
Guess it was the season too early for him, or he's just another one of those guys not living up to their potential, only time will tell. It wa slate in the draft so risks were allowed.
BROECKX Stig
Oh Stig Even with everything that happened this year, he still managed to leave a bunch of my riders behind him in the few races he was given. Fight on!
MEURISSE Xandro
Discovered this guy in tour of Britain last year and wanted to give him a chance. Definitely a great last pick. I hope he can get a spot in my 2017 team.
JK I will just add some text to it later on. I came into this season not knowing what to expect. After the first few rounds I really didn't know what I was doing so I relied on some research and just kept the default order at the very end, as well as picking riders I was familiar with. Boonen and Gallopin were must haves for me, and they performed well. As far as Ulissi, I had a hunch that this year he could perform well after looking at some previous years from him.
Have already signed up to defend my belt next year!!

I've only just looked at the final results now with the next season's draft about to start and I couldn't be much happier with my team's results. Top 10 finish in the overall and in the percentage gained (including three of the top four riders!) is way better than I could have ever hoped for.
It just goes to show how several different draft techniques can work with the top two finishers (jseadog and TMM) based mostly off 2015 scoring, whereas I definitely looked towards the bottom of that list and still found same great value there. A combination of both would have the highest scoring potential, but there's obviously no sure-fire way of picking the right ones so it's a really open game which anyone could win any given year.
Not sure if I'll be changing up my tactics yet, but I really enjoyed this season so thanks a lot to roturn for hosting the competition.
