Nice jersey indeed!
Looking forward to a healthy rivalry between our two Swiss banking giants.
Curious about your renewals. Amador may be the coming PCT superstar, but his wage pretty much determines the look of the rest of the team. Good you already have Reichenbach and Dillier as legit PCT contenders, since there haven't been a Swiss race winner last season.

Bushwackers
Thank you for the jersey love everyone! What else can I say, hoyle outdid himself.

Sammy I will also be cheering you on as always. Hopefully Margh or I will promote this year so we don't have 3 PCT Swiss teams and none in the PT after you get here Smile

Margh I'm sure we'll see each other a lot throughout the transfers as well as the regular season. Right now I think I should be able to keep Amador with a fair amount to play with still. Nibali will be sold for sure. A lot of my guys improved so they'll be asking more, but I think I can bring down other wages enough to still have a shout in the transfers.

Speaking of transfers, it looks like there is another limited pool of Swiss talents available this year. Hopefully between the 3 of us we can share Pfft

I don't expect to have the wage budget left over to be able to compete for them after renewals unless I change my team more than I initially plan to so it might be between just you and Margh Norway this season.

Optimistic we'll find ways to share again...
...though it would be nice to get it done without ending us broke this time. Pfft
Fear at least the UBS and Vontobel FA priority lists look similar!?

Bushwackers
I'm sure we've both already seen all of the decent Swiss guys at this point. It's really not realistic that either one of us will get all of them, so we may have to agree to only go after certain ones that fit our needs to prevent these $150k domestique situations.

Nibali Seeks Trade

The most notable news to come out of the Team UBS rider renewals is that Vincenzo Nibali will be leaving the team. This is no surprise as we were set to part with the rider since the end of this past season. Vincenzo took a massive pay cut down to €570000. I'll be looking for straight cash, or a rider who can fulfill my main transfer season goal of finding a capable sprinter. But we'll figure out specifics when the time comes here in a couple of days!

Aside from that, I would also like to announce that Johann Tschopp, Florian Stalder, and Dmitri Champion have not been renewed. All 3 have been valuable domestiques at UBS for many years, but are no longer deemed to be competitive at the PCT level.

All other riders have been renewed. There will probably not be any changes in the leadership or the Swiss core of the team. Stefan Schumacher in particular has agreed to take a large pay cut based on his results this past season in order to remain with the team, and since he has long been a loyal and valued leader he will most likely remain with UBS for another year.

Transfers Wrap Up

Spoiler
With things winding down in the transfers market, I would like to announce our new signings and final team line up for 2016.

www.rad-net-rose-team.de/templates/rad-net-rose-team/images/portrait_large/profil_reinhardt.jpg

Theo Reinhardt is a young German sprinter who was developed through the AMEX team the past few seasons. He will join UBS as a leader for all of the sprints, a role which we have not had recently.

i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q489/BushwackersMG/Reinhardt%20Stats_zpst1sbjtko.png

c2.staticflickr.com/4/3064/2836547689_cf71413f7f.jpg

Paride Grillo is a veteran sprinter, also signed from the defunct AMEX team, who will serve as the main leadout man for Theo Reinhardt. Grillo and Reinhardt were targeted specifically because they have an established chemistry as former team mates, since Reinhardt developed under Grillo as his leadout man. This year will see an interesting role reversal as Reinhardt will take on the main sprinter role with Grillo now leading him out.

www.equipecyclistefdj.fr/media/cache/widget_team_thumbnail/uploads/2015/01/steve-morabito-2015.jpg

Steve Morabito is a signing that I am particularly excited about as he has long been a transfer target that I've never been able to lock down. This year he was available as a free agent, so I made room for him in the roster to bring him aboard. He is a strong stage race domestique who will be doing a lot of work for Amador throughout the season.

Dylan Page is one of 3 Swiss talents that have been signed. We expect he will develop into a good sprinter, and with a bit of training he'll be capable of winning races at the top level.

Lukas Spengler is one of the biggest talents to come out of Switzerland in quite some time. He has been touted as a successor to Fabian Cancellara in the classics, and I'm excited to develop him into a future star.

i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q489/BushwackersMG/Spengler%20Stats%202_zpsscopllp2.png

Kilian Frankiny is the final signing, and he will be riding with UBS from August as a stagiare. He is a talented climber who I believe will make a strong domestique in the future.

i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q489/BushwackersMG/Frankiny%20Stats%202_zpszct8zcqr.png

So those are the new signings, and here is how the team is expected to finally look after the last contract details are finalized and training is complete:

i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q489/BushwackersMG/Team%202016%20Final%20Training_zpswu95usud.png

The main goal is to return to the Pro Tour. Obviously we are going to rely heavily on Andrei Amador to score big in the races he has targeted, but I am very confident he will be able to. Looking at the roster, I see important improvements in our Sprint and Cobbles departments, which will be further developed in the future. I also see a good improvement in our talent department, both in terms of new riders as well as progression of current riders. I expect to have a successful season. We may not win much outside of mountainous stage races, but I think we will always have a guy in the top-10 no matter the terrain.

I'm surprised to see you got Spengler for that price, I expected other teams to come in for him as well considering his potential but I guess with you and Margh both really interested in signing him they didn't want to get involved and knew he'd end up with one of you eventually.

Amador is going to be key to how you do but that was always going to be the case, I hope he brings in loads of points by dominating the mountains for you.

Dillier should score well in the TT's for you, I'm a little surprised that you kept Scumacher but I guess Reichenbach isn't quite ready to replace him, he maybe needs a season of training first although the improved mountain stat in comparison could help him close that gap a bit.

It's a shame you couldn't quite get Schelling maxed last year, hopefully he can still be a strong domestique for Amador regardless and then go on to be a point scorer in his own right if given the opportunity in any Amador-less race day.

Bushwackers
Yeah sammy Spengler was the highlight of my transfer season and I was really surprised that it was only Margh and I bidding on him. He'll be a central part of the team in a few years time.

Dillier is the one I spent training money on this year. Reichenbach will be developed next year when he is eligible. But Schumacher was only kept around because he took a huge pay cut, and with his stats he can still be highly competitive in this division at least.

Yes Schelling is not quite at that level yet, but the plan is to train him after next year and make him into a top GC rider. I didn't even sign up for any other mountain races aside from the HC ones that Amador will do because I think Schelling just won't be competitive here.

Amador Wins Tour of Eritrea

The first big news of the season is here with Andrei Amador's win in the Tour of Eritrea. This is a huge result for the team and hopefully a sign of things to come as Amador has opened his season with a win. He took a commanding lead in the only mountain-top finish of the race, and narrowly defended it against a strong effort by Ricardo Ricco in the final hilly stage. Swiss talent Patrick Schelling also put in a great ride by finishing 23rd overall as Amador's main lieutenant.

Andrei Amador wins solo on top of the summit finish in the Tour of Eritrea.

In other news, the team represented our Swiss sponsors well at our home race Berner Rundfahrt, with new addition Theo Reinhardt taking 3rd in a bunch sprint. The season started off slowly, but things are rapidly picking up for us.

The next stop will be the Tour of San Luis for Stefan Schumacher and Sebastien Reichenbach, before Andrei Amador makes a return to the Pro Tour in Paris - Nice.

Victory in Andorra!

It has been a while since my last update, but I'm thrilled to announce our biggest result of the season: Andrei Amador has won the Tour d'Andorra! After escaping solo on a mountainous descent on stage 2, Amador established a GC lead that he was able to defend by marking attacks for the rest of the race. This race was highlighted at the beginning of the season as one that we would target for Andrei to win because of the extremely difficult mountainous route, and I'm happy to say we came through on this objective.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Andorra/and5_21.jpg

Andrei Amador atop the final podium after stage 5 of the Tour d'Andorra.

We have had many other great results since the last update (because it has been so long!), so I will give a brief run through of the highlights.

Andrei Amador has podiumed in several other races, including the Pro Tour Tour de Suisse, our home Tour de Romandie, the Tour of Vancouver, and the Corsica International. He also placed 4th in the Pro Tour Paris Nice, but perhaps most notably Andrei won the Kenya Mountain Classic.

Other notables include:
Silvan Dillier Bayern Rundfahrt - Stage 21st
Silvan Dillier Tour of Norway - GC9th
Theo Reinhardt Tour of Japan - Stage 61st
Theo Reinhardt Tour of Japan - Stage 22nd
Sebastien Reichenbach Tour de San Luis - Stage 41st
Sebastien Reichenbach Bayern Rundfahrt - GC10th

Theo Reinhardt wins the bunch sprint in the final stage of the Tour of Japan.

While we have had some good results aside from Amador, it is clear that he is our big scorer. At this point, his season in the PCT is over and he has only the PT Deutschland Tour remaining.

Pre-Transfers Update

Before transfers get underway, here's a quick update on our renewals situation and rider availability. I'd like to take a moment to thank Ivan Santaromita, Paride Grillo, Kilian Frankiny, Steve Morabito, and especially Stefan Schumacher for their cumulative service to the team, they will be missed but I wish them good luck going forward. Transfers Update

With the transfer season winding down, I can announce our final roster for the 2017 season, with training updates included.

i.imgur.com/2GTXw2o.png

We have added the following riders:

Marcel Aregger
The first of a trio that comes from the now defunct CT Team Vontobel. He is a capable sprinter who can handle the hills and will act as a stop-gap for races when Theo Reinhardt is not present.

Théry Schir
Another free agency pickup from Vontobel, Schir is a good stage racing lieutenant and serve as support for Schelling and Amador throughout the year. He also has some room for continued improvement and we expect him to make big strides by the end of the year.

Michael Schär
Michael is a highly respected veteran that we have been in contact with throughout the years, but were never able to have the stars align for him to ride for the team. We're excited to have him and he will bolster our TTT squad depth, as well as help out in classics/flat races this season. He also joins his former teammates from Vontobel

Stefan Kung
Stefan is a great climber who joins after being released by our friends at Sauber Petronas. We actually helped develop him on a loan deal earlier in his career, so it is extremely exciting to have him return to the team.

Basilio Ramos Ticona
Ramos Ticona is a domestique with a wide range of skills who will function as a member of the TTT squad and as a helper for Reichenbach in hilly races.

Andrea Enrico Maccagli
We continue or long-standing partnership with Sauber Petronas by bringing in the TT champion of San Marino on a loan deal for the year.

Gian Friesecke
Gian is a talent who specializes in classics. Due to our schedule, it looks like he won't be racing with us but we have brought him on board to race in U23 races and to train with the team.

Thank you for reading. As you can see, we are quite a bit stronger than last season and it is mostly due to developing of our own talent. We have also strengthened our Swiss contingent and we continue to maintain our strong team identity. Goals will be posted soon!

sammyt93
It will be interesting to see how Kung goes for you, as a PCT domestique he should be far more valuable than he was as a leader for me in last year's CT.

His wage is high compared to what I think he's worth, and he definitely shouldn't be higher than Reichenbach, but that will come down over a couple of seasons to a more reasonable level so he is a sound investment for you.

I'm glad he gets to stay in Switzerland, even if that does mean bringing him back again in the future might be a little bit tougher for us if he becomes a key domestique for you.

Got to say I was expecting to see Spengler have some more help on the Cobbles this year, I know he won't be one of the favourites this season but he should still score some nice points there. Hopefully Frieschke will be able to fill one of those support roles for him when they are both maxed out.

And thank you again for the Maccagli loan, and the Wyss one the other way, both deals will help us out massively and hopefully both riders do well for their temporary homes this season.
