Although, we will be relegated (no surprise!) Tvetcov comes out with a mighty ride for 6th GC, not bad, considering he had two no show stages, Karpets was a disappointment. Just faded away after a few decent early stages.
Otherwise, Corti and Richardson peppering the top 10 on a few stages so I cant complain, its hardly been a no show and theres still a chance to get a win!

Berhane has, 99%, done it. I thought the Swede would need 2'00 to be safe, as a buffer in case he had a bad day, but he didn't pull out enough time in the TT and loses it in dramatic fashion at the last hurdle. Ouch!
I do disagree with the criticism of the mountain time trial. For me stages like that are exactly what GTs need (they don't favour the pure time trialers and they don't favour the pure climbers but those in between. If you wanted/expected climbers to win then have a 10% climb for kilometres on end, not a power climb.
Pedro has an amazing climb there, definitely one of the riders of the race, and solidifies his 13th place. Unlucky? Bah, not for us. |

Kononenko! From barely top 10 material in the Tour of Romania in 2013 to an impressive top 10 as domestique here!
Popovych fairly decent, but a bad day, and this probably was his last race to really do something as his age will start showing, same goes for Kashechkin who has been too anonymous here, despite being a domestique for Popo.
Euskaltel's random breakaway lcuk is what really pisses me off though. We have been the dominating team uphill (at least in depth that is), and still a crap team with random riders going in breaks (we only had 1 , ONE!) they can steal our well-deserved points... Shame.
Probably relegating now, even though this race will yield decent points. Needed more I'm afraid.

Crap team with random riders? Lopez Garcia and Arroyo have 77MO and Arredondo 77FTR. My depth deserved the team classification here

The fact is that everyone assumed TT wouldn't count on that Mountain TT, hence the disappointment.
Also, it looks like Cyanide was wrong - again! https://prntscr.co...

Gratz to Project Africa, I think this was deserved win from them. Cool to see Vinhas show up to take 2nd too.
Berhane seems to have taken it, so congrats to Eritel as well. Good day for the african teams today!

Hopefully our points tally from this race won't be too bad though I'm not expecting to be to high up there and I think we'll lose ground to our rivals despite our GC depth and 2 stage wins.
I just hope there's no breakaway fluke to rob us of more places tomorrow, though I wouldn't mind as much if we benefitted from it I still don't think it would be nice to see.

Sprint Train in Britain = Stage Win
Sprint Train in America = Stage Win
Conclusion = We should make Sprint Trains all the time!
Bagged the much needed and deserved stage win in this race. Brings us to 4 wins in our ToA history, very happy with that. Plus it moved Soupe to 2nd in the Points jersey, ain't bad that.
Petar 5th in the GC. It's what i wanted and is by far our best GC result in the ToA. Nice chunk of points. Shame it comes only as consolation to our inevitable relegation.

This must be a dream. Tolleson 18th? That can't be true.
Overall quite a succesful race for the Minions. Stage win, break attempts, mountain points. Tolleson could've been expected
As for the race itself, it was a nice battle to see at the front of both the GC and KoM, Congrats to Eritel and Euskaltel for winning those, and also congrats to everyone else who won something.
And of course, thank you very very much tsmoha for reporting 21 stages in 13 days

First of all thanks for a great set of reports and for having created such a fantastic route.
All-in-all I think I can be happy with our race despite losing a lot of terrain in the last week.
Ten stage top 10's, three of which podiums, a GC 4th and a couple of days in the leaders jersey certainly makes it a good experience.

Was a fun race to follow, great reporting, many entertaining stages... thanks a lot, tsmoha!
Gratz to Berhane and Lövkvist. They showed a great battle for the GC regardless who came in first.
Another noteworthy: As far as I've seen every rider survived the 21 stages.
Good climbing again by Penasa, but the bad TT performance made a better result almost impossible, can't believe the Kononenko-guy stole the last top ten spot.
The missing GC points (Maillet a great disappointment) were made up by stage results, to get us the share we were pretty much expecting.

We finish this race with another anonymous flat stage for us, but as previously said a good race for us. (as said in our little judgement about our preformence here on page 15)
Huge thanks to tsmoha for reporting! |

3rd GC and 3rd on a stage is all we get from this tour. Decent in the end but would obviously prefer that Anton was in the victory fight like Anacona, Berhane and Lovkvist all was at some point. But as this is an even more unstable version of pcm than usual, you can't jugde the results by stats only, you also need to have the PCM god with you
Big thanks and thumps up for consistent reporting by tshoma, very enjoyable to read aswell!

3 in the top 20 of teh GC and 2 stage wins should give us a decent points haul from this one, Shame Zardini couldn't get that top 10 GC in the end. That's probably at least partly down to that flat stage in the opening week but apart from that we've rode well for the whole 3 weeks and have had one of our stronger performances, even if the result doesn't quite match the effort it's still brilliant compared to our season so far so we can't complain and I definately would have taken it if offered it before teh start of teh race.

And they said the Sawney Beans died out hundreds of years ago!
Last stage - that block on Castaneda by the Mobil rider though. Have to say it was a bad-ish tour for him in the end, finishing behind those other sprinters in the points competition.
Wonderful tour by Nicacio though, thanks to him we will leave in good spirits. Three stage wins is just brilliant, the team peppering the breaks in the last 12 days was great to see.
Entertaining tour, tsmoha, a bit of everything in the route. Super! I guess the mountains weren't hard/steep enough though, or was that down to AI? Nicacio finishing less than 10 mins down in 13th and few abandonments being the evidence. |

The slopes in that final week were indeed not too steep. I'm not a huge fan of GC-riders also taking the points shirt, so I avoided over killer stages in that last week. With someone like Cabrera going so mad, it would have been a shame to see him DNF somewhere, imo. Just my liking

Very decent race, shame the same can be said about cycleYorkshire, ONCE and Mobil... Will probably mean we will relegate now, together with Sauber, Eddie Stobart, cycleYorkshire and Bulgaria Salmon Cannon, unless Prevar has a few tricks left for Milano Torino and Beijijng, which I highly doubt.
No sprint train here was a mistake, Ulanowski could've won a stage or 2 here if he had a decent support, but on the ohter hand I cannot complain about the support I had in the mountains. Gruzdev and Athanasiades played their roles in the TTT, Orlov needed the xp points and Suparman has done very well as replacement lead-out and breakaway guy.
Popovych very decent in his last race on this level, Kononenko strong, could be a fun rider to watch working for Nepom in the CT and Kashechkin just a bit disappointing, but still not crap. Would've deserved the team classification imo, but breakaways are a part of cycling too, and we should've been more active in them, throughout the year that is.
Anyways, thanks tsmoha for the reports and the quite stunning race in general

It was a really cool PCT GT and saw a nice battle of Berhane and Lövkvist.
Also the next Anacona/Anton with some nice performances while Chernobyl had a nice depth and Lululemon a strong Panaytov.
Africa with a good start but not too good finish and Mobil with a sprint domination but climbing disaster.
Thanks for reporting this Tour, tsmoha and congrats to SN for winning with his African project! |
