Well this is basically where Lofkvist might have won the ToA!
It's sad to see Berhane and Anacona nonsensely losing that much in a stage where they should have gained back most of the gap but well. It's also sad to note that Zardini is doing really great lately, he could have secured a much better result to Sauber if it wasn't for that misfortune in the first week.
Great win for Kohler and Vontobel, congrats MN! Also thanks for the great reports and the beautiful screenshots you're delivering, tsmoha

Team with stupid breakaway luck taking the Team Clas lead... And that's whilst we are obviously the team with the most GC depth here with 3 guys in the top 15.
Suparman 18th But has to be said the AI was crap here, not enough attacks from GC guys imo, mainly 2nd and 3rd tier riders like Panayotov and Kononenko.

I must admit I was wrong to nonsensically dismiss Berhane mid tour. Lovkvist is a decent all round guy keeping the euro flag flying over the African contender - I think with the chrono he should be secure.
Very sad to see JvH lacking in the sprints again, I thought he could have been multiple stage winner here.

Really interesting race. It's nice to follow - Eventhough it would have been nice to see more of the divisions top guys here.
I have always liked Lövkvist IRL, so I guess I will be chearing him on, but Berhane is also a really cool rider.

It's great to see Zardini finally having a strong race, wish he could have performed like this all season but the stronger startlists in other races seemed to kill him off before he started.
It's nice to see him gain more time again today and if he didn't lose that time in stage 3 then he'd be sat 5th on GC now which would mean he'd get our best GC result of the season, currently it depends on how he does in the remaining stages.
Hopefully we'll have a good stage tomorrow as if it's a partly hilly TT then that should play into Zoidl's hands over any other pure TT riders in the field for the stage win and if the hill stat does play a strong part in the result then Zardini could be in contention and might get some good gains having already proved himself the strongest hilly rider present.
It was nice to see Rohregger get in the break, shame he couldn't quite finish the job off but I'm really happy for Margh Norway to get the stage win there.

A moment of panic there, but that was it fortunately, just a moment...
These hilly stages have been really annoying for us. Couldn't the GC guys just let go of them? /rantover. The TT should be good for us though.
Congrats to Vontobel, though. It's always nice to win in a GT. Another good day for Zardini too. Despite not catching the escapees, mhe's surely made good use of these stages!
And thanks for another impressive report, tsmoha

What a relief, next stage Lövkvist should gain time on Berhane again then it's just up to the last mountain stage... |

Why is it nonsense though? Lovkvist ain't exactly a bad puncheur. In fact, he's one of the best amongst the GC-favorites, so it's not like he heavily OP'd here, imo
Thanks for the kind words on the reports though!

Some more valuable points by Haga!
Well, 3 points. That's something at least

In real life you'd hardly see someone with a better kick losing almost a minute to somebody else in front of him in the rankings. But yeah that's probably just a fresher Lofkvist

It's a shame that the AI doesn't let attacks go from further out. In reality, that is what Berhane needed to be doing. Wait too late and there's little chance for gain, and it places too much importance on who makes the move first.
It's been a good attempt by Berhane though, but he really lost it with his terrible mountain stage, and with the mountain tt that wasnt a mountain TT. Can't see Lofkvist losing now, was a great decision by viking to send him here.

The GC looks decided now, still a very tough stage 20 to come though. Diniz in the break and a good finish. We are on the tip of 100 points already.
Nicácio not losing time to those around him.
The TT should be a good one as tsmoha always does them very well for me. |

Damn, podium will be lost on the ITT for sure. Now to hope for Anton melting down or Anacona shining on stage 20...

Two good stages by Penasa imroving his chances to make it into the top ten.
Maillet for som reason lost seven minutes the last stage, dropping out of the top20... hope he's okay to finish the race. The loss is more than made up by Martin Kohler winning the last one, anyway. He was struggling the whole season and desperately needed a lift. Great ride by him that may lead to a contract extension.

Wish there was a heads-up bet for that Anton-Anacona battle, would bet all my remaigning money on Anacona then.

Well I don't think Lövkvist got enough time on Berhane. I'm afraid. |
