Since the first downloads for PCM08 are being released now, PCM.daily has been allowed to release its work too. Therefore, we, as promised, release Dankan's Real Name DB which includes pretty much everything you need for an optimal playing experience: It has real names for riders, teams, sponsors, etc., and it includes all the needed jerseys, rider photos for almost all riders, race logos, team logos and other graphical stuff. It's available right here!
Along with this, Dankan has also made a Save Game which makes it possible to relive the last two stages of Giro 'd Italia 2008, just as it was in real life. It's the same standings, same riders, same backnumbers, same fitness levels, etc., etc. It's basically like in real life ;) It's available from this link.
PCM.daily and PCM-Spain wish everyone a happy PCM 08 Release Day! :)
As we revealed yesterday, Eyolfur, the maker of the official editor, is also making an advanced editor, by some known as the XML converter. Why? Because that's what it does. Using the tool will convert the database to .xml-files which can be opened with Excel 2007. You may have to convert the files to .xls with an external converter if you want to use older versions of Excel or OpenOffice. You can change everything in the editor as you have been able to previously with PCM Kicker and Hannes Converter. All tables are open and fully editable. The design is pretty much equal to what we have seen previously. That said, it's not nearly as user friendly as the simple official editor. I have added some screenshots to the General PCM08 Screenshot album to give you an idea of what I mean.
Release date? Supposedly today at around 18:00 GMT +1. Although nothing is official, Eyolfur expects to have it ready for today. Also, he has promised to be around to answer questions if you have any. Feel free to ask in the Comments section of this news article or in the forum ;)
Update: It has, as promised, been released today. It's available from our downloads section or by clicking this link.
With the Download version due to be release at 00:01 CET on the 19th June, Cyanide have released 6 more Official Screenshots, which are presumably the last Official Screenshots to be released. They include 2 images from on the Champs Elysses. Friendware, the Spanish publisher of the game, has also finally decided to release the cover of the Spanish version - this can also be found in the album ;)
Many has noticed that Cyanide will release a simple editor with the game. This has been mentioned over and over again. What hasn't been said is that the maker of the official editor, Eyolfur, is also working on a more advanced editor, making it possible to edit all the things we have usually been able to edit in PCM07 with tools like Hannes Converter and PCM Kicker New Generation. Eyolfur hasn't said much about it except that it will be released after the release of the game. It's currently being tested, mainly by Dankan, and it's going really well. For the same reason, it's possible that we will see the tool being released very soon.
Speaking of editors, the magical Impish, maker of the PCM Kicker, has returned with his programming skills and is currently working on a tool, CDB Starter Kit, which makes it possible to converter PCM06 and PCM07 databases to a working PCM08 database. In this thread, you can see a demonstration of his tool where he has managed to convert the PCM06 Giant by PPDB to PCM08. So, it's definitely looking good for PCM08 Databaseurs ;)
Help us to find the best name for the PCM-EU project
As we announced some weeks ago, PCM.daily and PCM-Spain will be mixing together in order to build a big project for PCM08. However, the provisional name "PCM-EU" which was given to this idea doesn't look too atractive, so, in order to make it look way better, we have thought to leave (part of) the choice for you.
Feel free to post all your irdeas on the database's name in the "Comments" section of this news article. The crew will take five out of all proposals made here (as well as in PCM-Spain) and will (again) give you the chance to choose which of them will be the final name for the project. The author of the idea will be rewarded with a preference try at the final package we'll build. Remember not to repeat someone else's idea, and also keep in mind we don't want ANY reference to any of the two websites involved, but the union between them.
