Its time for another edition of the Weekly News.
Olympics With the Olympics in full swing, it's no surprise that some Olympics modifications have been released in the past week. We have a new Beijing Laoshan Velodrome as made by Doddy13. There was already a Beijing Velodrome made by Jacky_Durand but while Jacky_Durand's was a fantasy version, Doddy's is much more realistic. We also now have a stage file for the Olympic Road Race, which features in Eeyor's RAW Database in Single Player mode and as a ProTour race in careers. However, the race is with normal trade teams, so will not be particularly realistic - we still await the first National teams database for this game. Finally - you can see the Olympic National jerseys that have been made in the new topic for it.
Eeyor's RAW Database The Olympics Road race is not the only feature of Eeyor's database and it includes much more than that. You can see the full feature list and download the database in our downloads section (Link above). However, there is a fairly major problem with the Database in that it changes the game's language to German. We have FSkaffe to thank for a fix to this problem: "Go to the folder DomeLights and open DL_Average.nif with notepad. Find the line: <language english="0" and write 1 instead of 0."
A look to the future? Or maybe not... Last week we told you about the mojoFutureDatabase 2011 which promises new teams, new riders, a new calendar and of course, updated stats for 2011. Unfortunately it would seem that the database promises much but delivers little, as you can see if you read Waghlon's Database Review of it.
Track Customisation Now, you may have noticed while watching the Olympics that races such as the Keirin start with a gunshot - not with a whistle as PCM would have you believe. No need to worry though, as Smoothie and Doddy13 have released a Starting Gun sound. It replaces the Whistle with the sound of a Gun shot, further adding to the realism of the game.
It has also been discovered that we can actually play Scratch races in this game by editing the file used for Elimination Races. The gameplay for it is not ideal as if you gain a lap you cannot slipstream in other riders who are a lap behind you, but nevertheless it can be great fun in an online game. As well as Scratch races, by editing "velodrome.xml" or "velodrome_elimination.xml" in CM_Stages, you can make Sprints, Keirins and Elimination Races either shorter or longer. They are fairly easy to edit yourself, but as an alternative two packs have been released: PCM Track Revolution from Little Goliath, and New Keirin Modes from Ruben.
Fantasy Olympics Finally we come to the Fantasy Olympics - with its update from after the Team Pursuit. And we have a new leader, Addy291 with his 'Don't Mention The War!' team. With Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy both on Addy's team and through to the Sprint Semi-Finals - he may be hard to beat! Only the Top 10 will be posted today - the full standings will return on Tuesday after all the Track Events are completed. Here is the Top 10 though:
