Veenendaal Preview:
Hello and welcome to the preview of Veenendaal -Veenendaal. The Dutch race has always been a tricky race with a technical profile that has seen some surprising winners over the years. Let’s take a look at the profile:
201 kilometres of rolling terrain awaits the peloton, while it is predominantly flat, the hills do provide some difficulty to the parcours. The last two editions were not won by pure sprinters so there are no guarantees that the sprinters will be able to stick it out this time.
Let’s dive into the favourites that are present at this race.
In the sprinters field there are two top dogs that should stand tall above the rest: Coquard and Ewan. These two are the strongest sprinters on pure top speed. The field behind them is pretty strong all the way down Van der Lijke has had moments of individual brilliance this year that make him a force to be reckoned with. Ahlstrand, Kragh Andersen, Manninen, Kemboi and Jakobsen are just some of the many incredible sprinters all trying to throw their ring in the hat for this race.
Rider | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | Coquard | 73 | 71 | 74 | 84 | 83 | Ewan | 75 | 73 | 71 | 83 | 81 | Van der Lijke | 73 | 73 | 71 | 82 | 79 | Ahlstrand | 73 | 73 | 72 | 82 | 81 | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 70 | 74 | 81 | 77 | Kanter | 75 | 75 | 73 | 81 | 80 | Manninen | 74 | 71 | 75 | 81 | 80 | Philipsen | 74 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 80 | Samolenkov | 74 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | Abdul Halil | 70 | 71 | 68 | 81 | 79 | Kemboi | 78 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Cullaigh | 74 | 73 | 70 | 80 | 81 | Jakobsen | 74 | 75 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Silvestre | 77 | 68 | 69 | 79 | 79 |
The flat beast section is also well stacked for this year’s race. Last year’s winner and runner up returns as Pedersen and Wisniowski can be found on the startlist. Another former, surprise, winner is also here in Konychev. Although the Italian did win it as a lower class race he is now fully maxed and is a rider that needs to taken seriously. Last noteworthy roleur is Andersen and there’s a chance that we get both Kragh brothers on the podium.
Rider | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | FT | Konychev | 82 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 75 | 76 | Andersen | 81 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 74 | 72 | Wisniowski | 80 | 75 | 76 | 73 | 76 | 74 | Quispe | 80 | 62 | 60 | 66 | 73 | 84 | Veyhe | 80 | 66 | 71 | 56 | 78 | 80 | Brockhoff | 79 | 74 | 76 | 62 | 73 | 64 |

In theory, Kanter is right where he needs to be in that favorites list to potentially have a big impact.
If he does need support, we have Rutsch-Nieuwenhuis-Steimle as a train, but I'm not sure whether anyone wants that this year.
Hopefully Max can find a good wheel and start the sprint in a promising position, all that is assuming that it will be a big sprint for the win.

We would need quite an upset to score meaningful points here, no expectations really. I hope Manninen can bounce back and score well for Los Pollos.
Thanks for the preview.

Thank you for the nice preview, wj!
Thanks! I hope the same
A top-5 for Manninen would be very nice for us, falling outside of the top-10 on the other hand would be a disappointment. Hopefully Quispe can be his legendary self and bring our Flying Finn where he needs to be. Good luck to everyone!

Chosen to give Konychev the chance to lead here with a previous win on the resume and this race often going to a roleur in the past. Hoping for late attacks and for him to be involved

We've built a team for rouleurs this season. Would really hope we get to see something from it. At least I like our look on paper, pre race |

I don’t know what to expect here. Normally a top 3 would be the succes criteria, but given the sprints so far I guess it’s more realistic that we mess up.

Ok, looking at THAT favourite list, I guess it finally was a good idea to not send Bol here. Not expecting anything big by Page, but a couple of points would obviously be nice anyway.
Good luck to the top sprinters, really hoping we'll see a great sprint between all of them for once!
Thanks for the preview.

Wouldn't mind a result like last year Pedersen was quite anonymous during MSR, so nervous about his second flat classic of the year ...

Looking for AKA to surprise here. May the odds be in our favor I guess. Thanks for the preview!

Well, that was... a typical Veenendaal outcome, I guess. Messy as often, with some uncontrollable late attackers. Actually a shame for Ahlstrand and the Minions, this could've been their day.
Not a great race for us, but sending a 78 sprinter was always a gamble. It could've worked out, it didn't. Still some minor points scored with Page's 22nd place - and the first career points for Davies.
Generally not a great race for PCT, with Bralirwa being the most lucky of us this time. Would've loved to see Manninen get a top result, but it wasn't to be ^^
Congrats to cycleYorkshire, perfectly timed move by Antonijevic against Zabel-Sam.
Thanks for the report!

That was an interesting race. Very messy. Probably should have sent Per here instead of AKA, who did really badly in 23rd. Guess we're entering that part of the season.
Congrats to ryant and thanks for the report!

Walscheid in 13th has to be counted as a success. Crazy mix of breakaway attackers and sprinters at the end. Great ride by Sam.

With Coquard making his usual mess, it’s atleast good to see Kortsidakis taking over, so the race was somewhat acceptable point wise.

A late attack winning is not terrible, but the fact that someone from the early breakaway finished 2nd and got as close to winning as he did shows again how bad the AI is at having the peloton chase.
I have a soft spot for the winner since I developed Antonijevic and ironically had to sack him 2 years ago when I couldn't find a buyer
Thanks for the report

Dramatic finish Great report of the drama, whitejersey.
Happy that Pedersen gave it a go and a decent result, though e obviously hoped for more. Congrats to ryant on the win

SAM NO
What a race from the youngster!! Must have had a +30 day today
To get in the early breakaway and then take 2nd is a fantastic result from young Henry Alberto Sam A pity he couldn't hold on to win it but can't complain with 2nd at all! Castrillo surprisingly high up too while Jakobsen wasn't interested.
Thank you for an exciting report!! The first Zabel I've seen in a little while

Fifth is our best ever result here, so I'm happy with that, but it indeed feels like a wasted opportunity to win. But the race is how it is and late attacks or breakaways could always happen.
Thanks for the report whitejersey and congrats ryant!

Congrats Ryan, a bit of vindication after the giro for you guys. Crazy that a BOTD rider can hang on and finish second like that though, cool to see but pretty crazy really.
Shit result for us, but otherwise it has been a pretty good month so not the end of the world.
Thanks for the report!
