The 2022 season saw the HelloFresh – Lampre team manage to stabilise themselves in the PCT for the first time in the team’s history. Manager WJ’s third time in the PCT proved to be the charm, with astute signings of Luke Rowe and Xandro Meurisse from Xero, as well as big money Free Agents Peter Kennaugh and Maxime Daniel, the team achieved its goal of finishing in the top 10 of the PCT and for a while it looked like they would be able to make a surprise PT push. But despite the great results on the road main title sponsor HelloFresh decided that they did not want to be a part of the team anymore and instead would like to spend more money on micro influencers and podcasts.
Lampre saw this opportunity to step up and takeover title sponsorship of the team alongside Italian bike manufacturers Pinarello. Despite the pickup of three promising Italians last year, it is not required that the team will make huge strides in becoming a fully Italian side. Manager WJ has assured parties around the cycling scene that the team will always look at ability before nationality, like the case has always been for any WJSM outfit. However, there are some expectation that we could see a multiyear transition into becoming the most desired destination for the biggest Italian talents in world.
With a sponsorship change a new jersey has also been created, with a big change in the available design studios around WJ had to design the jersey himself and everyone at the office are happy with the outcome, or at least nobody is willing to disagree with the boss after what happened to the intern a few years ago…..

I like the jersey, good job
Also intrigued by the fact that you're now an Italian team, despite the official focus on quantity instead of nationality. I can definitely imagine getting you where you want to be - Italy's #1 target for top riders
I admit I didn't really realize before that you don't have and top-level PCT riders for mountains or hills - so I'm pretty amazed by how well you did! Obviously, Meurisse is an amazing rider to have for the less tough hilly races (which gives me some hopes for Schmid to do well in those races, too), and Rowe was a great asset to have at his max level as well. As you said, Daniel and Kennaugh were the other marquee signings last year, and at least the former should have another great season (with less wage) at max level in his legs.
Will be intriguing to see how you handle your declining leaders, and to what extent you could negotiate certain wages in your favor. In any case, wish you good luck for transfers & the upcoming season

Glad you like the jersey!
There are for sure some issues that must be handled in terms of my leaders that currently are aging and declining and it is an area where I must commit a specific level of focus during transfers to have some sort of longevity. But that's the tradeoff buying aging leaders to guarantee stabilisation in PCT.
I think I nailed planning and if Kennaugh hadn't "underperformed" in a few stage races last season we might even have been able to snatch a PT spot. For a team like mine a game switch is especially scary and I will have to navigate the window with that in mind!

Last season was a great one for the team, but as both you and Fabianski have already pointed out, a rebuild, if only in certain terrains is likely on the cards. Will be interesting to see how the shift to an Italian focus plays out. Looking forward to that. Like the jersey as well, think it's got a nice retro feel to it It definitely is the year of Italian nostalgia at the MG!

I like the jersey. Feels like a remaster of sorts of one of the old Lampre shirts from the past.
I'm looking forward to see how you build on a succesful season

As it has been eluded to in some of the previous messages the team will look vastly different next year. While we don't have the full scope of who we will be actively trying to sign to fill out the roster we do have the list of riders that will be retained by the team. Wage hikes have been given to Xandro Meurisse and Mark Dzamastagic after great seasons last year as we ended top 10. Despite strong seasons with the team, Kennaugh and Hermans have been released. Management did not believe in the Brit's ability to sprint with the best in the world in 2023 and was promptly released. For Hermans there was long drawn out discussions being held but Quint will look elsewhere in Free Agency. The full list can be seen below. Once transfers come closer we will start announcing availability of our riders.
Nat. | Name | 2022 Wage | 2023 Wage | | | Maxime Daniel | 450.000 € | 350000 | -100.000 € | | Peter Kennaugh | 400.000 € | 0 | -400.000 € | | Luke Rowe | 275.000 € | 180000 | -95.000 € | | Xandro Meurisse | 210.000 € | 240000 | 30.000 € | | Kenny Elissonde | 160.000 € | 130000 | -30.000 € | | Guillaume Van Keirsbulck | 130.000 € | 99000 | -31.000 € | | Mark Dzamastagic | 99.000 € | 140000 | 41.000 € | | Pavel Potocki | 82.000 € | 75000 | -7.000 € | | Oscar Riesebeek | 75.000 € | 70000 | -5.000 € | | Scott Thwaites | 69.000 € | 50000 | -19.000 € | | Joao Gaspar | 55.000 € | 50000 | -5.000 € | | Adam De Vos | 55.000 € | 50000 | -5.000 € | | Amith Udaya Kumara | 55.000 € | 50000 | -5.000 € | | Michael Vingerling | 50.000 € | 0 | -50.000 € | | Gilles Heymes | 50.000 € | 50000 | 0 € | | Quinten Hermans | 50.000 € | 0 | -50.000 € | | Samuele Battistella | 50.000 € | 50000 | 0 € | | Filippo Baroncini | 50.000 € | 60000 | 10.000 € | | Jonathan Milan | 50.000 € | 50000 | 0 € | | | | Total Saved | -721.000 € |

@ROD: Appreciate it, haven't designed a jersey since my ICL Spidertech jersey from way back and I will say this is a lot more successful
@Abhi: Appreciate the love for the jersey! This off season will be tricky for many reasons for sure but I think that I have some decent cards on my hands to fully rebuild, Kennaugh no longer being on the team frees up a lot of wages and I think that I should be able to navigate it, but this year's PCT will be a tricky mistress for sure! We pretty much need a leader in each terrain outside of cobbles, which means that we're open to most options in transfers. Fitting Italians in during that will be a challenge for sure!

So many wage cuts across the board, definitely a sign for good renewals. Dzamas wage rise hurts a bit but if we are honest, he is still half a million below his true market price. Can't overpay pure awesomeness.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Dzama obviously should have gotten a clean milli, due to how big of a star he is!

Great work in renewals, looking good going into transfers. And Meurisse and Dzama each earning a bigger bag is well deserved (of course Meurisse has a way too high wage due to OVL but that's a separate thing)
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Thanks! Considering Meurisse's performance last year it was impossible to get him further down in wages, trust me I tried Ideally we'd have a bit more cap, but with the way the FA pool is looking I assume that trading my way into interesting riders might be the way to go this year though, time will tell.

What is this, retro cycling year?! Reasonable renewals, i'm interested which direction the sponsor change will take the team in a potentially competitive market for the Central/Balkan/South Europe regions.

As stated the direction is not that we need to sack the entire team to build an Italian core, we will still be looking at value for money before nationality. Especially with the new influx of Italian CT teams that have can make those sacrifices in their first year. In a utopic world we'd be able to do what we did last year with 3 50k talents, as that is the approach that I prefer but time will tell and we do have a list handy for some Italian investments that we'd like to make when the window starts!

It's that time of the year where we announce the riders that are looking for new homes. This year we have four riders that might have raced their last race for us, let's go through them, shall we?
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | OVR | Age | Wage | | Kenny Elissonde | 66 | 78 | 73 | 63 | 76 | 77 | 79 | 66 | 55 | 66 | 61 | 72 | 63 | 75,81 | 32 | 130.000 | | Scott Thwaites | 72 | 58 | 64 | 60 | 72 | 68 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 74 | 59 | 69 | 60 | 72,95 | 33 | 50.000 | | Joao Gaspar | 71 | 75 | 75 | 66 | 73 | 72 | 74 | 55 | 61 | 67 | 72 | 70 | 66 | 73,58 | 31 | 50.000 | | Gilles Heymes | 67 | 75 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 71 | 71 | 53 | 54 | 58 | 63 | 61 | 73 | 73,09 | 30 | 50.000 |
Kenny Elissonde: Does this man really need an introduction at this point? He was a key figure in our record breaking 2021 season where he finished 5th in the CT individual rankings, scoring 432 points in the process. Last season he scored 132 points in PCT without a calendar that suited him well. A lot of his race days were spent racing at hills classics as stage races was not a focus for us last year at all. However, he still performed well in the races that suited him with a top 30 GC finish in PTHC Tour of Colombia, 10th in HC Tour of Chile, 3rd place on the final stage of Dauphine and he closed out the season with a stage win in Tour de Maroc. While this is his final year at max, he will still be a great asset to teams at every level due to his incredible energy stats.
Scott Thwaites: Has already had his first decline, however that is an upside, as weird as it might sound. Last season he was already C2 eligible but he was racing as a sprinter, with the drop to 75 cobbles he will be a great asset on the cobbles for a PCT team in those C2 races. At PT level he's a great early lead-out man or cobbles dom, in CT he would also be a great scoring asset for the classics.
The final two available riders are team legend Joao Gaspar and Stage Race dom Giles Heymes. Since the Brazilian maxed he has been a key aspect of our team, with his 75/75 score line he secures a ton of depth points from GCs and top 25 placements in classics. Since maxing out on loan he has acquired 62,5 points on average over the last 5 years in our colours and would be a valuable asset for teams trying to get some more South American riders that can do everything under their wings. Heymes is a super solid dom, who has not scored a ton of points for us by the nature of our squad setup but in our CT domination year he did collect as solid 53 points and would probably secure a lot more in a team looking to build a strong stage race core.

Everyone on this list could be leaving for a good offer or as parts of trades, outside of De Vos, Daniel and GVK and the Italians.

We're looking for a loan out for the Battistella to a PT team, the plan going in to transfers is to have us pay the wage and get a fee in return, but depending on the how the market moves that could be reverted as well.

Some more names on the availability list than I was expecting, so I guess you're in for a busy transfer season!

A rider with no stats below 67 but none above 78 potentially available? That's the kind of riders my teams are built on! |
