Welcome to the legendary Paris – Roubaix. The legendary course is nearly 260kms long and features an impressive amount of cobbles. The worlds leading cobbles riders are here so let’s take a look at the favourites to win it all!
Last year’s winner David Per is back in a new and improved edition after receiving training from his new team. Per won E3 Prijs and finished second in Strada Appia Antica so he’s a man on form for the biggest cobbles classic of them all.
Behind him we find Aker duo of Hampus Anderberg and Lukasz Wisniowski who had a really solid season so far. Grieg – Maersk’s Mads Pedersen is also a force to be reckoned with, especially if the race ends up in a sprint in a reduced group. The Dane’s punch is unmatched so his opponents will have to tire him from far out and try to avoid the sprinting scenario as they close in on the legendary velodrome in Roubaix. The PCT have also sent some of their finest on wildcards as Lukas Spengler and Nathan Van Hooydonck have been sent here by their respective teams.
In the general outsider field it is going to be hard to look past the Tinkoff duo Senechal and Kamyshev who are incredibly scary as a duo if they can utilise eachother correctly in the final stages of the race. Furhtermore, Kasperkiewivcz has preeviously shown that he has the ability to mix with the worlds best and so has Polanc who recently won Vlandareen in a surprise race.

This one should be less of a fit for Polanc. Too flat and might actually be more of a race for Neilands. A top 10 would already be very good.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Well, here we go. Still more cobbles this year obviously, but this is the big culmination of our campaign.
Wisniowski or Pedersen should win this. But I'm hoping for atop 5 at least and a podium as the goal. Can't be too greedy after getting the E3 win, even though per has shown he can win here, even pre-training. But after Ronde, we do want a good performance with the monument level points on the line. We also have another top 10 goal, and if we fail that I'll be very very mad.
Thanks for the preview!

Buzzing for this one! We started sensational on the cobbles, before we no doubt have cooled off quite a bit in the last two outings. Really, really, really hope we find our mojo back here. As the preview says, having both Wisniowski and Anderberg in the finale will be key for our chances. No early dropping, please!
Thank you for the preview, wj, looking forward to read the report! |

Probably need to win this for our spring classics season to be successful, so fingers crossed that Pedersen is up for it. Need a big result.

No podium for Gerts this year so would be really great if this would be the race he would turn things around. Sadly, I doubt that will be the case. Anyway, top 10 is a must.

It was a very bad Ronde for us. A bit better here would be extremely welcome!

Top-30 for Monk after an attack, that's quite an achievement for our so-called cobbles squad!
Thanks for the report ofc.

Wow, what a race! Great report wj, terrific read. Would've been really neat to see the world champion win in the velodrome (anyone knows how many/if any riders have won monuments in the rainbow jersey?), but wasn't meant to be. Such a nailbiting finish, Per looked like he had it but then Gerts just barely squeezed past him. Congrats alex, but also that training on Per has to be one of the more worthwhile in a bit, I think. Meanwhile, Pedersen seems to be struggling a bit this season if I recall correctly from the other races, which is a shame. The Tinkoff duo a bit lackluster as well, though good depth with 4 in the Top 21.
As an aside, really nice to see no less than four former Bralirwa (loan) riders show up in the report with Chokri, Mengoulas, Lauk and Rutsch!

Brutal for Wisniowski - at least he still got that podium.
Congrats to alex, you asked for it, you got it
Didnt get the top 10 i would have liked but am still satisfied since Neilands and van der Haar also contributed nicely. Following that cobbles week, i cant ask for much more
Thanks for another great report!

Bolivar got us some camera time, and a top 40 result is satisfactory.
Thanks for the report whitejersey and congrats alexkr00. Great win from Gerts!

Truly nothing better than an exciting finish in the Velodrome. Tough to swallow for the many attackers, but a fantastic race.

Thank you for a thrilling report, wj!
Aaaah, what a heartbreak that was. Really thought Wisniowski had it with 10 kilometers to go, but then I was sure it was gone as they entered the velodrome. To then be sure it was safe again, just to loose it in the final hundred meters... It hurts
Per looked very powerful too when he launched the attack that almost caught Wisniowski, but also when he started the sprint. Gerts really came from kind of nowhere with such energy. What a win, big congratulations, alexkr! |

I don't like cobbles anymore Tough one to take. Think Pedersen did a decent race to be fair, but probably launched to early in a desperate attempt to catch Wisniowski. Also not enough left in the legs anyway. Bummer. Congrats to alex on a big win. Timed to perfection.

So close! Winning Paris-Roubaix would have been the culmination of our team's entire direction in life. The epitome of everything. And Per almost did. Almost! We've seen some lone leaders blow up in the velodrome in past years, so I knew we weren't out of it. But we also could have finished in the back of the group. Luckily, Per looked remarkably strong all race. Taking control several times without showing any signs of blowing up. He just about had it too. But Gerts came through to just pip him in the final straight. Rats!
Obviously though, 2nd place in Roubaix is the culmination of an absolutely fantastic spring classics campaign for us. No lower than 6th, a win and a monument podium in total. When we signed Per for a bonkers amount of money, and then invested so much into training him, this was exactly the kind of consistency and prowess I hoped for. It's our only way of surviving, and he's doing his part. Watching him the last couple of weeks during the stress of my final exams has been a treat.
Congrats Alex! Not the monument I'd expect Gerts to win, but well deserved. And thank you

Thank you, guys!
Indeed, not the Monument I'd have expected Gerts to win, but we'll gladly take it. Even though we have a rich PT history, this is our very first Monument so Gerts has just put us and himself in the history books!
Good to see the team quite active too in supporting him, with Van der Berg actually getting a top 20 place for himself in the end as well.
Another huge miss for Pedersen, it looks like the new game just doesn't like him. It doesn't seem to like Gerts a lot either, but at least Floris got his redemption now.
