E3 Prijs - Discussions
Imladrik
The cobbles season is well underway now, for the PT peloton, with Aker and Evonik at the front of it. E3 Prijs closes down an intense week in Belgium, but it won’t be an easy race, with 211 km and a lot of cobbles and bumps.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Profiles/mg_e3prijs.jpg

Though the race has been on the calendar since 2008, it’s only its 2nd edition in the PT. Before that, it has been classified as HC, C1 and PTHC, a period which saw Sam Bewley win four editions in a row. The cobbles legend won’t be here to make it five though, as the only former winner in the startlist is last year winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Gerts.

Speaking of that, let’s have a look at the honour roll.

Once again, with their double threat, Aker are favorites to make a good result here, though they might also have a mild disappointment as in de Ronde. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Gerts is back to win the race a second time, and he indeed has all the skillset needed for such a race. A good teamwork might help in be set up in a good position.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Pedersen had a bad day here last year, but he finished 2nd in de Ronde a few days ago, and is always the biggest threat in a grouped finish. As are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/brs.png Stallaert and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen, but their lack of skills in the hills proved to be hard in the last races. Same for the Tinkoff duo of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Senechal and Kamyshev.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/evo.png Polanc showed it two times already, he’s in the form of his life and could prove to be a major upset for the favorites, with the needed help of Neilands.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/bnb.png Vanbilsen could have a decent result, but he’d need to survive in the hills.
Most of the others are supposed to help their leaders.

Another cobbled race in Flanders! I can’t wait to see what happens there.

Our previous two wild card cobble races haven't gone super well and I don't expect that to change here, but it would be nice to not have Stallaert waste it away with an attack from 70km out or so and instead try to stay with the favorites for as long as possible. Maybe get Okbamariam or Teggart in the breakaway and I'll be happy. Good luck everyone and thanks for all the work you're doing Imladrik!

Another cobbled classic, same goal as all the others. I'd love to say I'm fully focused on defending the Roubaix title at this point, but the truth is every point really matters for us, and we need several standout performances, especially after Ronde. So I'll be hoping for the best.

Thanks for the preview!

Not a race we've raced that often and it certainly didn't work out last year. The goals is as always to win and the rather long run in from the hilly zone should be quite good for Pedersen I reckon, even though the hills are quite tough. Fingers crossed for the rest of the team to step up a bit.

Looking forward to the first race without cobblestones, a tough part of the season for us.

Another big race for us! Really hope we can bounce back from the slightly disappointing Ronde van Vlaanderen and be at least on the podium here, and hopefully fight for the win.

Pedersen still missing that win this cobbles season, surely he mustn't wait for Roubaix to crack it?

Its hard to not raise the expectation after the last few races but would be cool if we could continue to score here. Sth like a top 8 result or so could be realistic

Strong finale by Wisniowski. Really thought he had left it too late, but great comeback. Unlucky to be leading out the sprint, as his sprint itself looked good enough to win if someone else had taken the leadout duties.

That was a major disappointment by Anderberg, making us miss out on a potentially great points scoring race, as his low top 10-top 15 placing would have added further points to what Wisniowski and his support crew gave us. Really hope Anderberg decided to rest for Roubaix, as we need everyone at their best there to get ourself in a winning position!

Well done, Per, though! Very deserved win after doing damage and opening the finale early. Congratulations again, bbl Grin

Welp. All onboard the relation train I guess. The only positive from the day is that it was better than last year, but that was certainly a surprising development. Congrats to bbl on a stellar win. Cool to see Carlsberg being such an important factor in PT from the start.

Let's goooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Banana Banana Banana Banana Banana

Wwowowow. What a whirlwind of a race. Per isolated early, as he has been all classics season, but then he went even further to isolate himself wayyyyy out from the finish line. I liked the gap he got, but when Pedersen got caught and spit out the back, I thought for sure that Per was next. But he was so strong!

Then when Wisniowski caught us, and then Kasper, I really thought we were done for. But I figured we at least had a podium. But then the others caught us too! I think not working and taking the rest ended up being the right move in the end though. Wisniowski was likely fresher, but the sitting up evened things and then he was left on the front for Per to come around. It looked so beautiful!

E3's been good to us before when we won with Trentin, and it's good for us again now. A win somewhere was really needed, so getting it at the very top of the sport is just really cool. All eyes on Roubaix, but at least Per has made his position known so far. For a cool one million, he better!

Commisserations to Pedersen and Grieg. Tough cobbles season for them so far, but Roubaix offers a chance for redemption, and he'll be suited.

Thanks for the amazing report imladrik!

Everyone seems to be on the relationship train, I suppose. The only upside of the day is that it outshone last year, but that was indeed an unexpected turn of events. Congratulations to bbl on an outstanding victory. It's interesting to observe Carlsberg playing such a significant role in PT right from the beginningdoodle baseball

Another nice ride from Siric. I don't know if he would've been better off being passive, but I figured he'd eventually get in of those mid race attacks, he just seems to fall in that stats bracket right now. Hopefully these results mean that future training won't be a waste of money Pfft

Congrats to Carlsberg and thanks for the report Smile

Good to see Gerts in the front group, but then not so great to see him finish last in the sprint. Polanc and Gerts looked set for 3rd and 4th only to finish 5th and 6th. Van der Berg with an actual good day makes up for some of it though!

What an awful cobbles seasons for Pedersen so far. Quite the opposite for Per and Polanc.

Thanks for all the cobbles reports you've done lately, Imladrik!

Another strong performance by Polanc. Really delivering this year. For a moment i even thought he would finish 3rd but that final bend was against him. Still, another top 5 result in what is easily zhe best week of his career. Love to see it!

Constant late top10s for Altur at the cobbled races, but with Bassos points added that look quite nice. Thanks for the report!

Look at that, don't attack from 70km out and you get a nice and quiet Top 10 result Grin

Per and Polanc really with some great results so far this season!
