GP Moscow - Preview
Welcome to Moscow where the Pro Tour peloton is here for a return journey around the densely populated Russian Capital.
At 198.2km and rather flat, it's a day that should end in glory for the sprinters who have won most of the latest editions of this race. The only non-pure sprinter to take the win in recent years was Kwok in 2020 who managed to hold on just ahead of the oncoming sprinters.
| Winner | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 2021 | Grosu | Gaviria | Degenkolb | Ahlstrand | Coquard | 2020 | Kwok | Per | Arashiro | Ahlstrand | Grosu | 2019 | Coquard | Groenewegen | Howard | Ewan | Guardini |
Race Favourites - Sprinters
The top favourites here have had variable seasons. Bryan Coquard is the best pure sprinter here and so far this season with Caleb Ewan also having a great season. Fernando Gaviria will hope that his acceleration is what gets him over the line here.
Arnaud Demare isn't quite as strong as the others in an outright sprint but he'll be one to watch for sure.
To round out the Top 5 favourites we have Eduard Grosu. He hasn't had as good a season as the other 4 we have highlighted but he's equally as strong and will look to make the most of this opportunity for success.
| | | FLA | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | | Coquard | Bryan | 73 | 71 | 74 | 84 | 83 | | Grosu | Eduard | 73 | 74 | 70 | 83 | 80 | | Gaviria | Fernando | 76 | 74 | 76 | 83 | 84 | | Ewan | Caleb | 75 | 73 | 71 | 83 | 81 | | Demare | Arnaud | 73 | 75 | 72 | 82 | 81 | | Van der Lijke | Nick | 73 | 73 | 71 | 82 | 79 | | Groenewegen | Dylan | 73 | 74 | 71 | 82 | 81 | | Lo Cicero | Ivano | 70 | 68 | 60 | 82 | 75 | | Van Stayen | Michael | 73 | 71 | 66 | 81 | 73 | | Enger | Sondre Holst | 73 | 71 | 73 | 81 | 78 | | Manninen | Matti | 74 | 71 | 75 | 81 | 80 | | Samolenkov | Artem | 74 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | | Hsu | Hsuan Ping | 75 | 75 | 70 | 80 | 79 | | Cullaigh | Gabriel | 74 | 73 | 70 | 80 | 81 | | Appollonio | Davide | 73 | 69 | 64 | 80 | 76 | | Bol | Cees | 76 | 75 | 77 | 79 | 77 | | Philipsen | Jasper | 72 | 72 | 69 | 79 | 78 | | Pedersen | Mads | 77 | 78 | 80 | 78 | 77 | | Selig | Rüdiger | 70 | 71 | 66 | 78 | 79 | | Yates | Simon | 74 | 77 | 70 | 77 | 80 |
The Aker duo of Andersen and Konychev will be 2 riders that the sprinters teams will need to watch closely. Aker don't have a lead sprinter so you can expect action from them.
Definitely worth watching Pedersen also. He's strong over flat terrain, enjoys an attack, and can sprint. Might he have the perfect combination for this terrain?

The startlist is as tough as it gets so it will be hard not only to repeat last year's result, but even get on the podium.
Still, it would be nice to complete the podium triple in Riga-Paris-Moscow. Or at least finish in front of Groenewegen and Van Stayen

Thanks for the preview, LLS!
Final Manninen race of the season. He's had a great season all in all, and I hope he can end it with a top-5

Last chance for Coquard to build on his record season. Would be great to finish with a win, but less can be OK ofcourse...
It's always up in the open what to expect from these type of races, which can quite easily be spotted at the race history

We came 2nd twice in a row, now it's time to take it a step up. Go Fernando!

Attack, attack, attack!
Fingers crossed it's Kragh's time to try this race, as his potential for staying clear should be greater than for Konychev. |

That was a strange sprint. 8th is not a terrible result, but hoped for a bit more. With good positioning it seems like more could have been possible. Nice to see Stojnic hold on so long, but a shame nobody else made it into the top-100 except for Manninen. With depth like that, relegation seems logic Thanks for the report, Abhi!

It all looked very much perfect to be in that 4th position behind Demare and Grosu as train. But unfortunately Coquard got into the wind a bit too soon, so he almost faded into nothing.
With that in mind 4th is a very satisfying result, even if our setup around him was worthless in terms of points.

Not the best result, but it's definitely not a bad one for us. It's not good that Grosu finished behind Groenewegen, but in the end it's not a huge points loss. The relegation battle for the last safe spot still looking very fierce

Dversnes with a great 17th place. I am hoping to see these sort of results more often in the future but it's at least two years until he has any expectations on him so I'm super happy about getting anything from him already...
Ewan, Gaviria, Groenewegen is a lovely podium. Congrats to all three teams!

Since Cullaigh is firmly in the lower tier of favourites, 10th is good enough of a result especially since he lost good positioning in the final 3kms which kind of limited his chances of a good result. This ticks us over nicely and should see us look pretty safe now! (I hope)

Groenewegen doing well here again. 3rd is not many points in the relegation fight but every point counts.
Can only hope for some more in the final races. |

No action at all is a bit disappointing, but also fair to the sprinters, as this really is THE profile for a sprinter's classic. Good to see Konychev and Kragh be "up there" in the sprint, and 11th and 15th give us some minor points.
Thank you for the report, Abhi, and congratulations, Scorchio! |
