Confirmation of Division Changes 20-21
roturn
Here it is, the full list of division changes for the upcoming season. In case some managers come by finding a mistake due to wrong disbands or wrong continuation, small changes are still possible!

PCT > PT
Farfetch Pro Cycling
Repsol - Netflix
Mapei
Desigual
Xero Racing
MOL

5 automatic promotions plus MOL due to the disband of Volvo Spotify, which is sad to see leaving, thanks to viking for a real great longterm ManGame effort until the very end of the season.
For Xero and MOL it`s a new situation as it`s their first PT journey. The others are all former PT teams and know the situation of having full budget teams.

CT > PCT
Carrefour - ESPN
Carlsberg - Danske Bank
Philips
Centovalli - Fiat
Tryg - Ritter Sport
Project: Africa
Los Pollos Hermanos
Sauber Petronas Racing
Bralirwa - Stevens Bikes

As usual the CT to PCT promotions get upped a bit due to disbands. This means, Carrefour, Carlsberg, Philips and Centovalli easily move up due to their positions as also basically Tryg and Project Africa due to the leavings.

They are joined though by Los Pollos Hermanos, Sauber Petronas and Bralirwa due to more disbands in the PCT division, which is Valio, Fablok and Andorra. Some long term projects apparently come to an end and who knows, maybe their managers will find some time again in the future for a re-join.

Some teams in PT and PCT lost the fight and are relegating. Those are:

PT > PCT
Team UBS
Aker - MOT
Rakuten Pro Cycling
cycleYorkshire
Indosat Ooredoo

Some huge names there and it surely will be interesting to see how they handle the relegation and rebuild for the next season.

PCT > CT
Aramco DP
Nordstrom - CA Technologies
Adastra N Hell Energy Cycling

3 relegated teams due to position as the other two Azteca and Campari also disband. Huge thanks to Tamijo, who was one of the main guys to make last season possible with lots of off-season stuff. Unfortunately time got less and disband was necessary. Also kentaurus leaves a long term project here.

Some more teams will come to an end: Those are Strava, Nordica and Sotto il Sole by the look of it.

For the moment this makes it 22 PT teams, 26 PCT and 11 CT teams + couple of new managers for the CT division. But even a smaller CT division can easily be handled. Either by a calender adjustment and/or by the addition of amateur teams again.

PCT is gonna be a bloodbath, looks like another year of struggle for newly promoted teams

Wasn't expected before the season started that I would promote, but I'll gladly use this opportunity to try and build some more on a Latin American team with a lot of homegrown riders Smile Congratulations to the other teams promoting!

Really sad to see Viking go, Spotify has been one of my favourite teams to follow, it's going to feel wrong seeing Ahlstrand race in another jersey next year that's for sure.

Valio was always a fun project to follow and it would have been interesting to see what would have happened next year with Manninen massive points scoring season. Also sad to see Fablok go and the cobbles armada of Andorra shutting its doors is also going to rustle some feathers in this window.

A final thank you to Tami for his massive work throughout the years of MG from reporting to offseason work he has been invaluable to the MG universe.

And to me the saddest disband has to be Azteca. A team that I have yoyoed with during my entire MG tenure and also a conseqeuntial strategic focus.

As someone who has relegated immediatly after promoting from CT twice this off-season is going to be an absolute bloodbath in FA.

The list of disbands and relegations is heartbreaking Frown

But there's definitely some great promotions to ease the pain.

The smaller CT could be good for us in our promotion fight. We will see though. Will be an interesting season!

Happy to see a few first year teams able to promote to PCT, even through disbands. I think the game can get kind of entrenched with the same bubble teams going up and down, which makes it difficult for new teams to break through. Now these guys have a huge shot to make it!

Some really sad disbands. A lot of long term projects, some from in and around my entry year, which always hurts.

Volvo obviously will be sorely missed. Think Viking was the first manager I ever made a deal with in MG, to buy Sebastien Rosseler. Always a really friendly manager who I enjoyed working with on deals and loans, as well as competing against for some of the Scandinavian guys. His presence will be really missed.

Valio too will be missed by me especially. Part of the 2014 class, and we were both at the bottom together, where we built a lot of comradarie. But they built into a solid team with a really cool identity. There will be a hole where Finnish cows used to be.

sgdanny was a real fixture on the site too, and seeing his team disband is both disappointing and sad. His team had a really cool makeup, and I always enjoyed dealing with him. Thankful that he remained active this season and left formally.

I had no idea Yellow Jersey was disbanding for some reason, and it's really surprising to me. Maybe cause I read his Echelons previews I just figured he was still active in MG. Loved that he tripled down on cobbles, and actually managed to pull it off. Just a bold move turning into a fun story. You have to respect it, and those are the types of managers that make the game most interesting.

Really surprised and sad to see Kentaurus disband. Such a great guy and active for so long. Always willing to stay in for the long term despite perpetually being a PCT/CT bubble team and flipping back and forth. I remember watching his PCM streams and talking MG plans back in 2014 when he first joined. Good times.

And as roturn said, nothing can really express how much gratitude we owe Tamijo. He really carried this game for a while in the last couple of years with both reporting and background stuff. Very sad to see him have to leave after all the work he put in for our sake.

I always wonder what happened to some of these long term managers who just stopped posting one day. As busy as I get, it's hard for me to imagine doing that as Daily and MG have been such a big fixture in my life for so long. Just hope all those users are doing okay in real life.

As for me, obviously happy to be promoting. Now, to stay there...
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

I'm very curious to ask why in place of the disbanded teams more teams promoted from below rather than sparing some of the relegated teams? I know this is a controversial topic and I know that last season I benefited from that, but I think (unless I'm experiencing the Mandela effect) that at least in football league systems if a non-relagated team is disqualified or withdrawn the first team below the dropzone usually gets the lifeline and stays for one more season in the division. This is a topic that has been talked to death in previous seasons, so I may stop there.

Well at this point it's confirmed and it's my time to say a goodbye to MG, unsure if forever or temporarily, but at the current time I have got some other projects which need time and also taking care of my mental health, at this time MG can't receive the attention from me that it's gotten in the past.

I should've written this some weeks/months ago but I was still looking into myself and seeing if I could commit for some weeks at least but ultimately my answer was no, I want to thank everyone involved in the game as it truly is an incredible game, thanking all the organizers, all the reporters who've kept this going so smoothly, and everyone who's directly or indirectly helped me along my rookie seasons and with all the negotiations across the years. And of course, all of my rivals who - mostly - were all in good friendly competition.

Hopefully my place is taken by someone who can commit more than what I could, the same said for my place in PCT which was given to a lucky team, make sure Summerhill gets a good home and also don't let my Andorrans in the unemployment! I'll be around and watching at times, may MG stay as great as I've experienced it Smile

Pretty shocking to see all those disbands Sad

And I guess there's even one more in CT:

Won't be a surprise for anyone that i'm hereby announcing i'll be quitting after just this one year: haven't got a lot of time to spare/kinda lost the hype.

Thanks to all those who were part of MG during many years, and especially to those who helped a lot running the game!

With 9 promoting and 5 relegating teams, PCT gets shuffled like crazy, with more than half of the teams joining the division for 2021. Of course, with 9 promoting teams, at least 4 will stay up, which is good news - especially given that we were 4th in CT. Having all three teams with Swiss focus (plus Duolingo as a Switzerland based team, but without local riders) in the same division will be interesting, too.

I did not see Andorra's exit coming Sad
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Idea is that the relegated teams already had their shot at PCT and failed, so why should they get a second chance? I think it's better to give more people the chance to experience the PCT through CT promotions than save failed PCT teams.

A lot of disbandments that are a significant blow to the game.

I'm happy we've managed to hold on to teams like Moser and ISA who weren't safe either, but losing valuable members like Tamijo as well as intriguing teams like Andorra, Valio and Volvo with their regional focus and quite a successful history behind them hurts.
I hope all of the managers leaving do so on good terms with the game, and it would be great to one day welcome some of you back if the motivation returns!

I welcome the new PT teams with open arms, there's a lot of diversity joining the top ranks which will certainly add flavor to transfers and the races.

Particularly Xero and MOL deserve a special mention for reaching the top step of the ladder for the first time, congratulations!
It will be enjoyable to watch you navigate transfers with a somewhat obscure regional focus that doesn't lend itself too well to competing at the PT level at the moment, but both managers have shown the skill to get things done, and I look forward to racing your squads in the big races for the first time!

Alternatively, from my own experience I can recommend tanking your first PT season to use the additional budget on long-term projects that might one day win really big stuff *cough*. Pfft

Conversely, my commiserations to the teams that drop to PCT, personally Aker is the most significant relegating team and I hope ember can find his way back soon!
That doesn't mean the other four teams wouldn't deserve to rebound, good luck to all of you.

The promoting CT teams show any focus area can work out if you approach it well enough, congrats to the teams returning to PCT as well as to the new teams making it out of the bottom division for the first time!

I understand if the managers ranked 6-9 might not feel like they deserve this chance yet and might feel extra unprepared, but again a look at Puma's history shows that we also benefitted from a disbandment in our first season to promote, and things turned out just fine. Smile

bbl not having to suffer down there any longer is great, and Keldermerckx dragging Philips out of CT makes me happy too.
Congrats in particular to Aidan and cunego for taking their African teams to PCT! Enjoy transfers and your first season back in the mix. What a great achievement to promote straight away.
Tryg is a two-edged sword for me, on the one hand I've had good relations with the team already, but I do hope their Danish focus will prevail during transfers. Pfft

The same goes for the relegating teams to CT as for those going down to PCT, I hope you can all bounce back from the disappointment and either keep working towards your long-term goals, or manage a full reset and find a new approach to success!

We get another chance at PCT survival and we actually get to keep the team together. That extra budget will mean renewals will become alot easier in terms of keeping our current leaders, but also that I'll have tough decisions on whether I think some of the talents/ domestiques deserve another season or if I want to risk resigning them later in transfers after I strengthen other areas.

sammyt93
Not sure where to ask so going to use this thread, is there normally a pre renewals DB with stat gains and disbands already in it? Or is post renewals likely the next DB we get?

Eden95
Think there’s usually a db with the updated info before renewals start.

There will be a pre renewals DB. Likely being around same time as renewals start. Still need to work a bit on 1-2 files and have a closer look on some profiles and prepare the race profiles thread and new managers etc. I hope to have all this done over the week now but no guarantee.

I don't know about not deserved (on the face of it, yeah, but I don't mind Pfft ), but unprepared? That certainly fits. Did not expect this whatsoever. The plan was to promote in one or two years when our talents are far enough along to at least be decent role players. But we've finished 10th largely on the back of Naesen and Ndayisenga with not a ton of depth scoring behind them (and that mostly from breakaways, which is probably not super sustainable). Both of them have proven in HC and partly C1 races that they won't be good enough to lead a PCT team, so it's going to be a very interesting team building process, that's for sure.

Still, I'm kinda thrilled to have the opportunity in the first place. Whether we stay up or not, I hope that additional budget allows us to build an even better foundation for the future. And of course it's fantastic to have two African teams in PCT next season, especially with Xero going up. Very happy in that regard for P:A.

Renewals has now been completed. I'll be posting the post-Renewals DB very soon, but before I do, there's a need to share some unfortunate decisions that have been made, with the disband of two more ProTour teams.

I know that roturn, and others, have made attempts to contact these managers through various different methods, and have been unsuccessful - not just to undertake renewals, but just to reach out in general.

Disbanding:
Air France - KLM (CrueTrue)
Repsol - Netflix (Aquarius97)

As a consequence, PT will be a division of just 20 teams this season.

There will be no additional promotions; there will remain a limit of 2 wildcards per race; and at the end of the season, the bottom 3 teams will relegate. There will still be 5 promotions from PCT - returning PT to 22 teams for the next season.

If either manager does return in the next couple of days then there would be an opportunity for a reprieve still, but for now, their riders will show as Free Agents in the Post-Renewals DB.
