Barbados Cycling Festival
The PCT peloton heads off to one of the most exotic races on the calendar: The Barbados Cycling Festival! Four stages on this tiny island that probably only got this status due to Podium Ambition's license being from this country. Anyway, the second edition will once again be one for the top sprinters to have their final chance at victory this season in what should be a very open race.
Four stages of various length (Some stamina will be needed for stage 3!) and some slight elevation, especially in stage 3. With so many teams sending their top sprinter here, nothing can be expected than four chaotic but very interesting mass sprints.
| SP | ACC | FL | HIL | | SP | ACC | FL | HIL | Degenkolb | 84 | 81 | 76 | 69 | Stauff | 80 | 81 | 74 | 65 | Mohs | 83 | 82 | 75 | 65 | Rowe | 80 | 70 | 72 | 62 | Cavendish | 83 | 81 | 73 | 65 | Moser | 80 | 79 | 72 | 67 | Ewan | 83 | 81 | 75 | 71 | Bouhanni | 80 | 77 | 74 | 63 | Guerao | 83 | 76 | 74 | 65 | Guardini | 80 | 82 | 72 | 64 | Vanderbiest | 82 | 77 | 74 | 64 | Van Asbroeck | 80 | 78 | 75 | 71 | Guarnieri | 82 | 81 | 76 | 66 | Drapac | 80 | 79 | 71 | 53 | Goss | 82 | 78 | 74 | 67 | Holloway | 80 | 82 | 78 | 69 | Vantomme | 82 | 78 | 73 | 64 | Serebriakov | 80 | 77 | 74 | 61 | Appollonio | 81 | 78 | 74 | 66 | Roelandts | 80 | 79 | 74 | 70 | Saber | 81 | 79 | 75 | 68 | Ulanowski | 80 | 77 | 73 | 58 | Granjel Cabrera | 80 | 77 | 75 | 69 | Castañeda | 80 | 79 | 71 | 59 |
The big favourite for this race should be John Degenkolb. He's already shown to be the best sprinter this year and is looking to seal the deal in this stage race. As always, he's helped by an amazing leadout and we'll see Iberia's sprint train a lot this race. That's almost guaranteed.
Mohs also had a nice season and almost guaranteed promotion for his team, Fablok. He'll have the help of Guardini... Or will he fancy his own chances in this final race?
Cavendish, Guerao and Ewan are also looking to beat Degenkolb. Cav will need to save his meh season a little, Guerao may not have the acceleration to expect more but Ewan is certainly an interesting one! It's not only a home race for his team, but he is also a bit stronger on the hills. Therefore he may be the favourite in stage 3.
Guarnieri may also be named among these riders. Coming all the way from the CT (travel costs must've been a lot!), he has already tried his luck in HC races before and this is another chance for a big points haul for Delvaux. Goss, Vantomme and Vanderbiest all have weaker acceleration meaning their results may be too inconsistant to go for a good GC, but a stage win is still on the cards.
Lastly, Saber, Van Asbroeck, Granjel Cabrera and Holloway are weaker sprinters on paper, but have that little bit extra on the flat that could give them an edge over the other sprinters in case of a tougher race. I'm sure one of those will appear at the front in some stages!

The FESTIVAL is here!
A packed field as expected, so hopes not too high for a Top 5 or a podium performance in the GC from Saber. Hopefully he does put in some good stage performances and maybe takes inspiration from our last sprint stage race last season
Thanks for the preview and the stupendous work in the last couple of weeks Vien!

In previous seasons I'd expect a lot from Vantomme here, as in the past PCM has treated him better and he'd be a top 5 at least. But this year he hasn't shown good form so really we can't expect anything near that.
We desperately need the points though, so really want him to pull through, a top 5 or a stage win could be all the difference for us.
Thanks for reporting again Vein, you've really taken a lot of this late season load!

Back to PCT for Guarnieri, where he for some weird reason has done way better than in CT races Feeling a lot more optimistic about this race than USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Can we hope for a top 5?

Absolutely need nothing short of a miracle from Bouhanni and Moser to have any hope of survival, especially given the start list here. Bouhanni has done well here in the past so I have some hope. Let's just hope our team puts in a good effort.

Goal race so Kraftwerk need Cav to turn up to all the stages not like the half hearted effort in Germany!

If TVA has one final overperformance left, now would be the time. It's not looking good though with a very tough field.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I'm sorry for the other relegation dangered teams but this will be the race for Vantomme to overperform

Yeah so if my relegation prevention depends on Appo doing well here, then I'm relegating.
Unfortunately, at this point, it does.

This just confirms that PCM can't handle two equal sprinters in the same team as there is no way that Bouhanni should be 27th or Moser 35th. I know it's a strong field but neither of them even in the Top 15 is a joke. Need nothing short of a miracle now.
The only positive is Cosnefroy joining the breakaway although sadly there were no intermediate sprints for him to gain some time for the GC but a solid effort from him nonetheless!

Didn’t realise we were here Nice to see Areruya in the break at the very least, since our sprinters aren’t getting anywhere near the top 10 it seems. Shame he went on the stage which has no KOM or points sprints (I mean wtf )
Good from Saber but we need better from Vantomme!

Nice result by Saber.
Hoping for a little better from Vantomme, but 8th isn't abysmal and I'll take it over him completely disappearing, as long as we just need consistency in our scoring and though I want more to feel a lot safer, this might be good enough.
Thanks for the report Vien!

Not the best start. Guarnieri had a good wheel, but seems like a took a little too much wind too early. We can definitely improve on this.
