The Route

Until the final 20 kilometers, the route today is a little less demanding than yesterday. Then, however, the riders face the climb of Mûr de Bretagne - twice! 2 kilometers at an average of 6,9% doesn't sound that spectacular, but there are those 500 meters with 10 to 12% just before the flamme rouge that will be the biggest challenge. The slope eases off to the finish line, and the big question will be who's left to sprint for the win.

The Contenders

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar)
Julien Alaphilippe (QuickStep)
Peter Sagan (Bora)
Philippe Gilbert (QuickStep)
Dan Martin (UAE)

The chances of the likes of Sagan, Colbrelli or Van Avermaet depend on whether they can stay with stronger climbers/puncheurs until the finish line. Other GC riders like Nibali or Thomas might also have a shot if they can create enough seperation in the steep parts of the climb.

---------------

A first true test for the GC riders? Or a slow ride with just an exciting final two kilometers? On a bad day, significant time can be lost today.

Yellow Jersey
Sooo Sagan again?

Avin Wargunnson
Sagan/GVA or Colbrelli if not for the late attack of someone like Gilbert/Thomas/Valverde/Martin or Alaphilippe, who some fight for yellow jersey. But i believe Bora will have it all covered and set up for another Sagan win. Smile
I'll be back

Today Alaphilippe to do the double. Stage win + Yellow Jersey. I don't think Sagan can follow an acceleration of Julian in this type of hill

Mûr de Bretagne don't look too hard, but probably is enough for Alaphilippe, that's my favourite for today

I think some underestimate how tough Mûr de Bretagne is when there is proper racing. Sagan and GVA came 4th and 7th respectively in 2015, but as I recall it was really passive racing. Going back to 2011, all top-10 riders bar Hushovd and Gilbert were GC men.

At a high pace, this is too hard for GVA, Sagan or Colbrelli. Valverde, Martin or Alaphilippe to win.

I have Alaphilippe to win and take yellow aswell... If he and Gilbert can play together that will be a likely outcome!

And i think you overestimate it...it is tough, but not Mur De Huy at all...there is tough first kilometer and second one is much more flat in terms of percentage, so there is room to get back maybe for someone like Sagan if he is distanced a bit on toughest slope. It is never wise to say "this is too hard for Sagan" you know. Cool

Nibali has to be in Movistar's group, because there's not a single Barhain in the first group.

Of course there's room to come back on the second km and it's not nearly as tough as Huy. But that room won't be there in case of active racing, which is exactly what I'm expecting with several riders interested in snatching the stage and the yellow jersey. Gap will never be enormous but I don't expect Sagan to win.

Relax... Sagan got dropped on that hill in the TTT.
