Tour de France 2017 Preview
Aquarius97
Just one week until TDF starts. This year's route is... i would say shit, but i think is even worse.

www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2017/100/PROFIL.png

We start with a 14-km TT in Dusseldorf, before having several bunch sprints in the first week with the exception of the Planche des Belles Filles in the fifth day.

Then we will have the useless (for GC) stage of Station de Rousses before a big mountain stage with 3 HC climbs, with the same last climb as in Dauphine's stage 6, but with 10-15 flat km after the descent, which will produce 0 gaps unless someone does a brilliant tactic to have team-mates in the flat.

www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2017/900/PROFIL.png

After the first rest-day, two more sprint days before the Pyrenees. A stage ending in Peyragudes (where Valverde won in 2012 from the BOTD, and that Froome-Wiggins mess) after climbing Bales and Peyresourde. Then the junior mountain stage, still unknown the route of the stage due detachments in Col d'Agnes.

After leaving the Pyrenees, two days which are likely to be for the breakaway before the second rest-day and the arrive of the Alps. Wait, we still have another sprint before the Alps.

Finally, we have the two days in the Alps. The first one with Croix de Fer and Galibier (by Telegraph) finishing in Serre Chevalier. The last mountain stage will end in Col d'Izoard, and GC should be over before the 23 (yes 23) km TT in the second-last day.

Then the champagne in the Champs Elysses and it's finally over.

You can talk here about your thoughts on this Tour, or give some news about the riders who will be racing

BMC has also confirmed their 9-men roster for the Tour. Obviously led by Richie Porte. He will be joined by GvA, Moinard, Roche, Caruso, De Marchi, Kung, Wyss and Schar

What I think is worth mentioning and quite astonishing is that Ondřej Cink was picked for the Bahrain-Merida roster: a guy who hasn't done a single road race in the last two seasons.

Route is so bad especially week 1. So much potential wasted

I like stage 9, 12 and 17. They are good, proper high mountain stages. Well, the Jura in general are great.

The time trials are a joke and I count 10 stages for the sprinters, so needless to say, the route isn't what is intriuging me about this Tour... but I have a hucnh it will be a pretty good Tour anyways.

He's raced quite a lot with great results in 2017 though, seems like a no brainer to pick a versatile rider like him in a team like Bahrain that still lacks depth

Yellow jersey: Froome
Green jersey: Sagan taken with ease
Polka dot jersey: Majka
White jersey: S.Yates
Team classification winners: Movistar
Rider with the most stage wins: Kittel
Team with the most stage wins: Quick-Step Floors
First yellow jersey: T.Martin
Biggest surprise: Fuglsang
Biggest disappointment: Contador always

Edit: Think Porte can match Froome physically in the first week, but not over three weeks + Froome is superior tactical, team, sidewind and downhill.

Two things. Dennis is not even running Tour, so he cant be the first yellow jersey. And if you always expect Contador to fail, why is that a disappointment?

Converted it to Tony Martin.
Many people (not me) talk about Contador every year as if he is a favorite, after which he crashed or becomes number 5. Therefore always disappointment!

Cavendish confirmed to be riding. Probably won't last the 3 weeks. It will be a shame if his chance to break Merckx's record will be taken away by glandular fever.

What is your top five? I can see there definitely Porte, Contador, Froome, Quintana and Bardet followed by Majka/Martin/Meintjes/Chaves/Yates. But what will be the order? I am really curious.

I just hope that none of the big names will have a crash or some other kind of badluck.
