Olympia's Tour

Category: C17 stagesterrain: flat & TT Netherlands

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/profiles/c1/c1_oyt.png

The Olympia's Tour is a paradise for all the guys that hate to ride up and down. 7 pan-flat stages await for us, giving away a KOM jersey here is kind of a farce.

WWith two TTs here it's also a battle between sprinters and TT-specialists. Can the later gain enough time in the short opening time trial and on the TTT or will the bonus seconds do the trick for the fast men?

The past is telling us, that it'll really be unpredicteable: Sprinters won in 2012 (Giaux) and 2014 (Holloway), time triallists in 2013 (Cornu) and 2015 (Fiedler). Who'll win the 2016 episode? Let's take a look at the sprinters first:

Sprinters

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Ahlstrand8382747473796072

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vad.png Breschel7773757667776262

The odds have to be best for a battle of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vad.png Lo Cicero vs. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Ahlstrand. But in this season lots of guys had fantastic results, so basically every guy with a sprint stat of over 80 should have a shot here. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Vantomme, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk_fra.png Vanderbiest, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Zabel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Itami have brought some strong teams here. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande could become a guy if conditions become a major impact and the race goes tough.

Also a couple of CT teams in the mix, most notably is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo with his team as well as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png TVM's train. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen can also always bring some pleasent surprises. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe needs a tough energy sprint to shine.

Next on we are talking about the TT specialists, obviously led by defending champion pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Fiedler.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Stannard79797075pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Atkins78777575

As TTs are very much of a random thing we can't tell if anything besides the main stats have an influence. Like this there is a wide field of competitors, out of these beneath the former mentioned german TT champ and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Cornu stand out.

The TTT should only have one team to beat: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Generali. Strong opponences might be Karcher and Wiesenhof. Flores (yes, really), Novatek and Spotify with outside chances.

Finally we are talking about guys that are looking forward to put the hammer down in the wind:

Rouleurs

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Maes8079747264626764
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Hermans7778707171667371

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Reckweg7676717268727474

One guy should be the main character to do so, and that is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Maes. Strong time triallists like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Cancellara though will also try to make this race as hard as possible though.

Thorsen to win it! Grin

Finally a race for us Grin Hopefully Vantomme and our lead-out continues their form at these kinds of races, but it can go either way in such a packed field. No shot at the GC this time either (Reckweg on the preview sounds interesting, but no Pfft)

Thanks for the preview Croatia, looking forward to the racing! Smile

Anything less than a GC podium and a stage win will be a disappointment. All-in for this.

Thanks for the preview Croatia!

Did not know Vanderbiest was that good of a TT guy compared to most other sprinters, nice susprise for me there Smile

Hope we can do well here with a good sprinter, a decent lead out and a fairly solid team for the TTT.

Now this is one of the races we have been waiting for. Cornu has won this race in the past and so I hope he can be up there to at least podium but hopefully to win the GC. He has some decent time trial support in Bret and Bonnet so he won't be completely alone in the TTT.

Bouhanni is also here again with strong support in Reza, Anton Martin, Sanz, Jaser and Bonnet so I will be very disappointed if he isn't up there in the sprint stages.

Looking forward to a good race and good luck to all!

Man this is the stupidest choice of mine in the race planning, if we get some points here I am more than happy..

Nice to have a Vantomme here again, who I term Van der Sande's archrival now. I doubt it that we can get away with a win but I look at some nice stage results and possible a few points here and there. of course with the form Van der Sande has been on recently, he can really surprise me yet again.

The plan was to get some good points out of Itami and Kuboki here, but with how Itami has been Im not too confident, and Kuboki probably doesn't have the sprint to be able to challenge for stages or even a decent GC placing, despite the strong TT skills, which will be an advantage for him over most other sprinters.

Don't have a clue what I can expect here but I guess Lo Cicero will have a great start on the prologue and will continue whit that in the sprints.

Dunno why I only sent Kvist as a leadout here but earlier that has not matter so hopefully Ahlstrand can pick the right wheel.

Very interesting tour for us, but with the races throughout the season we have come to see that Maes does not attack on the flat. So there is only hope for that to happen. Lavoine has not had a good season and can only improve here or fail miserably. Bialoblocki is in a hard field of riders, but we do have an okay TTT team with us. However a Top 10 finish in the GC is possible, it will be very hard.

This means we will have a fun and tight race here, so hope for some good reports to follow here aswell. Thumps up for a good preview

Our best chance has to be doing something in the TTT. Really? Yes! If everyone is on a great day we have a chance: Avancini is riding and he is our only rider who knows how to win. Rolling Eyes

Cancellara to come 45th, and Serebriakov with a bit of luck gets a top-20 in a sprint. Now the team can only perform better than expected. Or maybe not, you never know Frown

Fiedler Ready to be beaten by some rider with 77TT or so....
From what I see this season I have no hope of conquering something in this race

I would take another look on the stats if I were you...Fiedler was beaten by the third best TTist on the startlist and by nobody else...

Hope Yasetvich's big win doesn't block Thorsen Frown Nevertheless congrats bwiggins on a big win!

Reckweg doing pretty alright, but after the TTT will be a top 30 at best, not that I expected anything from him, so a nice bonus. Smile

Thanks for the great report Croatia! Smile

I'm not impressed, although 20 seconds from Wiesenhof's best is not much, and even better, it's only 29 secs from Fiedler. I also can get another positive out of this. Sprinters are all far behind, so it's basically between the best TTT teams for the win. Great. But could have been greater.

A win is still possible - though highly unlikely - and Ghyselinck if any is the one that can bring me one - pretty unexpectedly since he was our 3rd best ttist behind Van Winden and Viviani...

Avoid Time Trialists in PCM while you're still in time.

Bit disappointed by Cornu only managing to finish 3rd but at least it was 3rd and not lower. Unlikely to stay there throughout the race but I guess we'll see. Now for Bouhanni to take centre stage!
