GP Kigali
The GP Kigali begins the PCT cobbled season and this is the second edition of the race, last year Danny Summerhill dominated the course, winning by almost 2 minutes, he’s back this year intending a repeat performance
The race is simply 187km around Kigali, Rwanda. With 2 hills each lap, one cobbled, one not, both are steep but not at all long although the hills could be a sorting point between the cobble specialists.
This year there is a relatively small startlist, just 14 teams, 5 of which are CT teams, so it could be a good scoring opportunity for those who came.
Favourites: | CB | FL | HL | | CB | FL | HL | Summerhill | 83 | 78 | 73 | Taillefour | 78 | 77 | 57 | Zepuntke | 81 | 72 | 69 | Breschel | 77 | 75 | 70 | Teunissen | 81 | 76 | 65 | Gaudin | 77 | 74 | 68 | Sibilla | 81 | 71 | 63 | Hristov | 77 | 72 | 63 | Baugnies | 80 | 78 | 72 | Eeckhout | 77 | 72 | 61 | Vanbilsen | 80 | 78 | 69 | Langeveld | 76 | 76 | 72 | Cancellara | 80 | 80 | 68 | Lagab | 76 | 73 | 71 | Franzoi | 79 | 75 | 66 | Joseph | 76 | 74 | 66 | Thomas | 79 | 75 | 60 | Nepomnyachsniy | 76 | 74 | 64 | Bush | 78 | 74 | 62 | Taubel | 76 | 72 | 64 |
Plenty of riders are here that might be able to topple Summerhill however, Zepuntke, Teunissen, Novatek duo Sibilla and Cancellara, Baugnies and Vanbilsen are all strong on the cobbles even if they don’t match Summerhill’s ability on the cobbles or hills. There is also some CT strength here as both Thomas and Bush are good cobbles riders who could challenge if they have a good day.
There aren’t any Rwandan cyclists here today but perhaps Lagab can get a result for the African continent.
Startlist:

Here with a very inexperienced squad and not expecting a lot! A day in the break and Ngandamba getting Top 20 would be nice.

Back to a real pointscoring race for us. I think a podium for Vanbilsen should be possible here after Van Asbroeck disappointed in the early classics.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Battle for 2nd should be fun, I'm picking Baugnies from r the hill but should be quite open

Summerhill is dominant cobbler of PCT - this race should be really hard just how he likes it.

Summerhill should win, but I'm really hoping for a top 3 from Zepuntke. He should be among the strongest, but you never know

I was really really tempted to come here, but decided to do other cobbled C.1 races. Hopefully I don´t regret that, as this startlist might have given us a Top10...

Nice small startlist, hoping this gives the team an edge and a good points total

First season I have some hopes for cobbled races. Despite Franzoi and Nepomnyachsniy like flat races more, I think a top 10 is not out of reach. |

Thought there might not be a lot of love for C1 cobbled races, but only 14 teams still a bit of a surprise. Nutresa avoided cobbles in season 1, but I had a lot of fun with VDB and Del Nero in season 2, hence WCC had a goal to ensure a cobbled presence. The hills don't suit our leader Bush so much as flat cobbled races, so if the hills rather than cobble prove to be the deciding factor, Baeckert and Naesen should then step up and mop up places perhaps around 15th, so fingers crossed we go home with some points from this outing either way. Whatever the case, Clifford is hyped up to get the race started and slide into the BotD!

Some teams could really rack up dem points here consitinh the small lineup. Lets see if Summerhill still has it after not being that impressive in the PT-openers,

Will be interesting to see who takes the 2nd place here, Teunissen should have a shot even though he's not the best puncheur. If he can take a podium here the rest of the season should be sweet. Predicting a 1-2 of Summerhill and Baugnies tho.

An important race for us. These cobbles will make or break our season, so hopefully our strong duo can score some big points here.

Bit disappointing result for us. Cancellara should never have been caught in a split, and 7th needs to improve. Luckily our good depth does show with 4 more guys in the top-25. Especially Kuznetsov is a case of where on earth he got that power from, so his result is satisfying
Thanks for the report

Summerhill with a true strongman show to give his rivals a clinic in cobbles. Teunisseb hung tough for secobd but benefitted a bit from Baugnies' untimely puncture, as he looked very strong. Thanks for a nice report trek

Are you fucking kidding me??
That's the best result Teunissen could ever get here, same time as Superhero Summerhill and basically coming back on his wheel at each of his attacks, to then finish with a minute advantage on some of his rivals - even though well they've been unlucky as well.
Thanks so much for the great report trek.
