Corsica International Discussion

Three stages in Corsica to suit three different types of riders. It is the shortest HC stage race of the season, but the fact that it is HC means that there are plenty of points to play for.

Part of the least popular HC band, 17 PCT teams lineup here along with 1 CT squad: Live Nation.

Stage 1

Flat but with a few bumps - there is quite a weak sprinters field here, considering the PCT quality in general. Kupfernagel will be one to watch having won Down Under Classic, while Corioni and Lay have both sprinted well already this season. Can Ulanowski cope with the hills? There's the French duo of Drujon and Sonnery too - if Sonnery will consider himself to be a sprinter in this race!

Stage 2

A short prologue style time trial should see the race lead change hands. Dutchman Kai Reus will start as favourite, alongside fellow Dutchman Ligthart and his teammate Brajkovic - the best TTer of the climbers. But if this season so far has shown us anything, is that TTs can be quite unpredictable.

Stage 3 and GC

It will all come down to the big mountain stage to decide the race. Based on the Kenya Mountain Classic, Intxausti will be the man to watch after he beat Duarte and Abal there. Brajkovic and Pozzovivvo only started their season in the recent Giro del Trentino, so this is the first time they will match up against either Intxausti or Abal.

Race History

A breakaway stole the race in 2011, but for the past two years it has been Jose Alarcon who has won the key mountain stage, and the race overall with it.

Plaza is the highest placed rider from last year to return, having been 4th then. Karpets, Abal, Popovych, Pozzovivvo, and Lovkvist all made the Top 10. Meanwhile Duarte finished 2nd overall when Venchi last rode the race two seasons ago.

Waiting for Trentino on this one, for reports to come

I'm expecting this race a lot. We need a good showing from Pedraza if we want a chance of staying in PCT. I'm hoping that his good ACC stat helps him attack out of the pack.

TheManxMissile
Based on Kenya i would have said Panayotov has a good chance of a solid result. Then i saw the number of climbs turning up and i will happily take a Top30 finish from him! Plus i want to see a B3B jersey in at least one breakaway, preferably two. Zero coming from the TT.

Stage 3 has potential to be really something special with all that talent in attendance, bring it on!

If Sonnery sprints, Reus wins the TT as stats suggest he should and Maillet/Elissonde/Gadret can do something on the Mountain stage I'd be delighted. And surprised.

Anxious to see what the duo of Efimkin and Topchanyuk can do here Smile Hope Ulanowski can show himself on stage 1.

This can be an interesting race for the team, Kupfernagel is perhaps the main favorite to victory in the first stage, and the characteristics of Karpets, on mountain and TT give him a strong chance of finishing well inside the top 10..

Stevenag
This is my second goal of the season, but at least only a top 10 is needed. Pozzovivo should be able to at least catch a top five, and even if he crashed out, Marzano should be able to get the top 10. If not, I might as well give up. Hope Lasca can catch something on the first stage. He should not be able to do anything, but he has performed miracles before.

This looks like it's gonna be a close one. I can see whoever winning the third stage taking the overall. The TT probably won't produce a notable gap.

I would comment usual top5 expectations for Popovych, but running season so far suggests, that something around 20th place is more likely. Or he will wake up and surprise me. Nice preview SN!

At least Zmorka and Ma should both challenge for top10 in that TT.

Tough field as expected. I think Abal, Intxausti and Brajkovic will cover the podium places. Duarte might fight for a top 5, though. He has climbed well so far this season. The TT should also hopefully give him a slight advantage on his main contenders.

The sprint field is weaker, which is nice. Corioni has good support here with Corti and Ascani on the startlist. Hopefully, he'll get his first win of the season.

Firefly21
GC field looks incredibly tough, so I think I hold more hopes for Drujon getting a nice result than Cataldo/Rohregger who are quite clearly outclassed.

Maybe Ahlstrand can do a good result on the first stage Smile And Lövkvist decent in the GC.

Great stage for the team was not having the desired victory but the 2nd and 4th compensate .. Kupfernagel launched the sprint too late but Silvestre in 4th place is a great result

Good win by Kupfernagel considering Venchi shouldn't be in this division Pfft

Great ride by Marquez. Wonder how the late start time will affect his performance (if at all)

 Newton with a mention. Smile

While Venchi just keeps rolling, remarkable. Shock

Not really sure what to expect from the Abal/Plaza duo here. Top 3 would be ideal, I think.

Pedraza finishing in 74th... Not sure if it's a good indication, specially by looking at Tachira.

jph27
6th is a decent result for Sonnery. However, I feel he could have beat Lay and Silvestre there, even with his low acceleration Pfft

Now to the TT!

mmh, nothing from the first stage to write home about.
But it´s not this season Ahlstrand should be great Pfft

Nice first stage for us, win would've been awesome, but 3rd is a good result. Now hopefully Augustyn can do well in coming stages and help us to a top 10.
