Nobody watching these games?

At the moment Brazil plays against Italy. Brazil leads by 3 - 2.

Italy scored a goal after the ref gave a penalty kick. How bizarre.
The ref blew the whistle and pointed at the penalty spot. About a second later, an Italian player shot and scored. The ref then turned around and pointed at the middle.

I think everyone's protesting instead of watching the games

Wow.. Neymar should have been sent off..
But the ref did a good job. Neymar is just.. hyped. He is nowhere near Messi.

The refs did a lousy job. Three of these 6 goals where wrong. Two offside goals and the penalty error.

And how can you compare Neymar to Messi? Messi is 5 years older. If Neymar would be at the same level with Messi today, then Neymar would be the god of football.

Kritzo
Okay, so first of all. The referee did an amazing job. I don't see the mistake he made with the penalty error. He whistled for penalty but when they scored, it was a goal. I see it may be defended as wrong, but there was only 1 offside goal. The last one was held onside by Italians number five.

And why I compare him? Because everybody does. I mean. He is overrated I think and today he should have been sent off.

Why do you think it is OK allow a goal which was scored after the game was stopped?

SSJ2Luigi
no, the final whistle makes the final score, not some time afterwards. but that's just my opinion

I don't think it's ok, and at a second glance you are right. That was a very poor judgement. But the offside goal isn't his fault. That is the linesman job to do so. The offside was so small that the referee couldn't possibly see it from where he stood. You can't blame it on the main referee.

Not sure if this belongs here, but I am putting it here.

I saw that many people are upset that Brazil is spending so much time and money on the cup this year, the world cup next year, and the Olympics coming up in a few years.

Alot are speculating that this could cause the World Cup to be relocated to the United States this year.

What do you think will happen? If the world cup were to be moved, do you think it would move to the USA?

Didn't see the Italy game, but in the first two games, he looked pretty impressive to me. If he develops as much the next five years as Messi has developed in the last five years, Neymar will be better.

I would lose my shit if that were to happen. I was planning on making the trip next summer. FIFA won't abandon Brazil though. Brazil could be a radioactive crater and FIFA would keep the world cup there.

The US would have to do some work to get World Cup Ready. The best venues are all non-soccer specific, like Century Link in Seattle, or Spartan Stadium which will be used for the California Clasico this weekend, or the Rose Bowl, which will be used for Gold Cup games this summer.

Kansas City, Los Angeles, San Jose (which will have a new stadium by then) and Houston are probably the best facilities for the job, but they don't high enough capacity.

You know, all this people being upset because the government invests so much money in the World Cup was the same in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. Then it continued anyways, so I see no problem with that.

I don't say I disagree with the people protesting though, I think they have some good points, but cancelling the World Cup wouldn't help a bit.

State College, PA about 20 minutes from where I live was a rumored destination because the stadium hosts 110,000 people, and it is in a decently sized city with enough hotels to accommodate everybody. It also has an airport.

There was even an article on Yahoo about it.

Won't help?
I don't think you're aware of the situation

They're tearing down houses and evicting 1.5Million people, and the houses those people are supposed to be moved to won't be available for another 6 years. They are effectively putting 1.5Million people on the streets with no housing. Homeless. Because there's no money to build the new houses now. Or rather there is....but it's being used for the World Cup.

It gets worse.
Most hospitals in brazil don't work properly. People are dying. There's no proper transport. People can't get anywhere. There's no proper healthcare, millions have recurring health problems due to poor treatment. Schools are overpopulated and underfunded, it's extremely hard to get kids a proper education. There's no money to fix that....or rather there is, but it's being used for the Olympics.

The government is ignoring all this and spending 25.000.000.000 euros on two sporting events.

@isso: some of your points look similar to this video. Since you read Portuguese, maybe you should take a look at this article. I'm not positioning myself but the writer brings some interesting points.

But when they cancel it the homes that were destroyed won't come back.

@Fcancellara Of course, but it is like when someone that is close to you dies, they won't comeback, but it doesn't stop you from suffering or whatever.

Clearly a lot of that video is bullshit, but I don't get how any of the 2nd link debunking the video applies to what I said.

Basically the idea of the 2nd link is "sure it's bad but it's bad in other places too so let's leave it.". Example, they argue literacy's not a problem because it's only 8%, not 10 like the video claims. That's still huge.

To put it simply. Both links are full of shit in my opinion, even though they argue opposing opinions. The first link exaggerates and manipulates, the 2nd one is the equivalent of the morons arguing against the fight on drugs with the fantastic argument "hey, we have it better than Colombia so why spend money?"

Essentially, a developing country hosting the World Cup has always been about spending massive amounts of money to get a long term boost 0.5-0.8% on economic growth. That's wonderful for the countries that can spare the money, but Brazil can't.
