Portugal beckons for what on paper is a race with 4 flat stages. In reality, some of them do offer some hills at key moments which could cause the sprinters some problems.
Chances are, however, that a sprinter will win this race. But which one? Predictably there are plenty here in a field of 12 CT and 1 PCT teams - the PCT team being the Portugese Prio-Porto outfit who may well have the favourite for the race in Santos. Here's a look at the leading sprinters in the field:
| | | SP | AC | HL | | | Santos | Bruno | | 79 | 75 | 64 | | Prio - Porto | Nelson | Ricki | | 79 | 79 | 59 | | ANC Halfords | Van Loocke | Jurgen | | 78 | 76 | 57 | | Adira Isq-Project | Rizza | Emanuele | | 78 | 73 | 63 | | Die Berg Komt Er | Abakoumov | Igor | | 77 | 75 | 61 | | Die Berg Komt Er | Sutton | Christopher | | 77 | 77 | 61 | | Risa - Ergon | Schinker | Nico | | 77 | 75 | 63 | | Kenya Airways - Barclays | Gavazzi | Mattia | | 77 | 72 | 54 | | Ekspla-Cision | Dall'Antonia | Tiziano | | 76 | 76 | 70 | | Mobil - Castrol Cycling | Duque | Leonardo | | 76 | 71 | 68 | | Die Berg Komt Er | Belletti | Manuel | | 76 | 77 | 67 | | Magna-Ryanair | Lima | Bruno | | 76 | 80 | 64 | | Team PrivatBank | Speirs | Isaac | | 76 | 80 | 62 | | Magna-Ryanair | Cardoso | Filipe | | 76 | 75 | 71 | | Team PrivatBank | Ciocan | Alex | | 76 | 75 | 68 | | Mobil - Castrol Cycling | Gajek | Artur | | 76 | 74 | 56 | | Adira Isq-Project | Meenhorst | Alex | | 76 | 72 | 60 | | Ekspla-Cision | Friedman | Mike | | 76 | 78 | 61 | | Ekspla-Cision | Martins | José | | 75 | 71 | 64 | | Prio - Porto | Kristoff | Alexander | | 75 | 74 | 57 | | Risa - Ergon | Eefting | Roy | | 75 | 74 | 60 | | Mobil - Castrol Cycling | Salleh | Mohamed Harrif | | 75 | 76 | 58 | | Adira Isq-Project | Bahati | Rahsaan | | 75 | 74 | 54 | | ANC Halfords | Crespo | Marcos | | 75 | 74 | 62 | | Vattenfall Cycling |
Nelson is the fastest but not keen on the hills, which could in reality make Santos the fastest. Die Berg Komt Er seem to have the potential for the strongest sprint train, while the likes of Cardoso and Dall'Antonia will be very well placed to profit on the 'bumpier' stages.
C2 sprints have been far from predictable to date, and with so many closely matched sprinters in the field, that looks set to continue. Time bonuses will be so important, both at the finish and out on the road at the intermediate sprints.

I think Dall'Antonia's hill ability will carry him past the others |

Wow, that is a lot of good sprinters! It will probably be impossible to successfully pull off an attack. Guess my best bet is Nardin sprinting well thanks to the hilly terrain. But my expectations are low.

This looks like a Hoffman-sque race.
So my picks are Tizziano and home favourite Santos and one of the PrivatBank portugese sprinters, hard to tell which one will be their leader.
Good luck to all!

Nice startlist, should be exciting. Hoping for a good result with Sutton here.

Hope Lima will help Cardoso, otherwise I'm screwed... If Lima helps I think the battle will be Cardoso - Dall'Antonia, with also Duque and Belletti ending high.
Also fear Prio a bit...

Santos will take this out for sure. With the nationality bonus and his speed it will be hard to stop him.

A flat race withouth the fastest sprinters. Nor Dekkers, Lay or Kankovsky!
Think a break will survive on one of the 4 stages and take the overal here.

Hoping Schinker can surprise here like in Puig and some of the Crits. Other than that Brammeier could do something but nothing more than a top 10.
I think Die Berg will finally get some luck and win with Rizza or Abakoumov. Nelson and Van Loocke have both failed before while Santos has a bad aceleration stat. I don't think the hills will make that much of a difference. |

Would be awesome. But there are many teams with a competitive sprinter here, so I expect a large amount of chasing domestiques.

I was aiming at a top5 here, but given how the sprints have worked in the lower divisions, the standards have to be lower here. Most of the sprinters are very alike and then there's Dall'antonia and Cardoso whose hill stat may provide them the upper hand.
So my bet will go to mass sprints being won by some anonymous domestique. Most stages don't look to be sprint-friendly so it's hard to tell how this will go anyway.

My first win goal, but it will be virtually impossible to achieve still expect a good performance from my team and a top 10 in the final standings would not be bad ... The hills can wreak havoc on my sprinters given their characteristics, but if they are very selective Martin Irvine may surprise.
My favorite is undoubtedly Dall'Antonia, although Bruno Santos and Filipe Cardoso are clear threats ...

You can not speak of failure by Van Loocke, he has managed several top 10 and even a podium, and so far only competed in C1 races where as we know there are much better sprinters

Hardly. Die Berg has a great sprint train, that may prove good or bad. |

What? I was talking about Arroyo and their bad luck with him

I wasn't talking about their luck. I was talking about the combination Rizza-Abakoumov. Still, i'm a little bit hipocrit cause I have here a 76,76,75,73 sprinters. |

I still don't get what you mean. I said I thought Die Berg would do well and you seem to be agreeing. |

He participated in only two where he managed 1 win and some top10, and in one of these crit were hilly stages ..
PS: He has many limitations and what I mean is I did not expect much, so for me it has fulfilled

This is gonna be awesome. My best sprinter is not even in the list of sprinters. If i take as much as a sprint point in this race, i am impressed. |
