Olympia's Tour Preview

March 10-16, 2013 : Europe C1 : Netherlands

Time trialist and sprinters unite for 7 stages here in the middle of March.

Let's highlight the top contenders -

Time Trialist

The opening prologue and the stage 6 are the main focus for the chrono men who make a living off of riding fast solo. But with the way the race is setup, the 17kms against the clock will make it difficult for them to gain enough time to hold off the sprinters, who will be gaining bonus seconds on at least 4 other stages. Are there enough kilometers to make a difference?

Sprinters

Pan flat stages 2 through 5 are what these men are after. Win a few stages and jump over the time trialist is the goal. But to do so you also need an average time trial, and this is where things get interesting. The top name sprinters Guillen, Vantomme, and Hutarovich on paper could struggle more then the sprinters who are farther down on list like Van Poppel, Rasmussen, and Nelson. For a sprinter to win they would need to be constant and pick up bonus seconds every chance they can get.

The Cobbles

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.pngTaillefouri439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.pngKurthi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/sbp_zpsa477b496.pngHushovd

That leaves us with the final and longest stage of the entire tour. Not only does it include 9 categorized climbs but also a 500 meter cobbled section. Almost all of the teams overlooked the cobbles thinking they shouldn't cause to much problems as the names mentioned above aren't superstars on the cobbles to begin with. So the sprinters that can survive the cobbles should prevail. It will be interesting to see how this tricky final stage will shape up the standings (if it does at all).

Vantomme to overcome his last season failure putting Rothaus in a very serious promotion spot.

How the hell is he the only "real" 80+ sprinter here?

And where is that cobbles section, because I can't see any at all.

Nice overview, Mre!

Just hoping for our TTists to score in those two stages, as i fear both could lose time in one of the other stages.

Rasmussen may have a chance to score, too. Cooke, i don't know. This final day looks too tough for him, imo. So any result will do there. But i do hope for some decent results.

Attention to Martin Irvine, is good in the Time Trail and its capabilities in sprint may well surprise.
I also can not see any section with cobbles

Do not think that only that section can make a difference.

If Vaitkus, and not Docker, goes for the Stage wins, it would be more ideal for us, as he's significantly better at TTs.

I'm just curious to see how the last stage plays out.

No idea how this one will play out, will wind be a factor?

Vantomme is favourite for me, but it all depends on how he deals with Kip and Guillen, who on pan flat parcours with the right lead out conditions could surprise.

If the sprint results are jumbled enough then the TTers will be dangerous. Usually Van Winden and Ford would have no chance of a decent GC but they could be in with a shout here.

I really hope to see the team do well in the sprints, especially since Kip should gain a decent boost on homesoil and then we have Van Winden for a possible GC contender as Smowz said!

Great preview, looking forward as always to follow your reports Mresuperstar Smile

I really hope Vantomme will finally start to win and take as many bonus seconds as possible to get a high GC as well.
He is a decent cobbler as well, which hopefully helps him on the last stage.

Without Davis, Napolitano, Greipel etc. I would be quite disappointed if he continues to fail...

While you are free to investigate stages in PCM, I have already told Vien in the past not to post all about what happened in advance of that stage being raced in the ManGame. And yet he blatantly ignored that here. His posts and subsequent responses have been deleted.

Save the anti-cyanide posts until after the race, if indeed, the AI actually causes any source of disappointment Wink

---

Hoping that Tennant and/or Stannard can use the TTs to secure a strong overall position here.

Wtf? I clearly said I'm not allowed to post results, and all I said were things that have always been in the game. Oh well.

Anyway I'll save my predictions till after the race in the future.

In your mind, what is the difference between posting actual results and describing the results of how the AI will react on the final stage? Because there is no difference to me, but apparantely there is to you.

While others try to predict the results by looking at would happen in real-life, I remember it's a game. The fact there is a cobble part that may cause the game to behave strangely is the same as saying a hilly race might make the game picking sprinters as leaders resulting in a mass sprint, or full teams waiting for their sprinter because the game rated it as flat.

Theres a clear difference between predictions (based on real life as you seem to think people do, or past man-game results as I suspect is more likely), and saying along the lines of "Whenever I play this stage, X happens". End of.

There's a difference between predictions and talking about tests for a particular stage. The latter you did, and that's what SN told you not to do. And i don't think all the others do real-life-related predictions, btw Wink

So, it's pretty easy: telling people how a stage played out in your tests, kinda ruins the fun of the game.

Rated as a favourite in a C1 race, Ow Yeah! Grin
(only by PCM though, but it's still something)

Hoping for a stage win here as it is my goal, and I was fearing alot more competition than this. Grin

Morales - Cano -Guillen should do good, otherwise I hope Guillen is wise enough to jump on some other trains.

Fun to see what Kreder can do hear with his nat.bonus.

And what will happend with Hushovd here, quite capable in TT,Sprint and Cobbles, will that help him getting anything here?

CountArach
Cornu should easily manage a top 10 and I can hope that he takes at least one if the TT stage wins.

Where are the top sprinters? This should be Vantomme's chance, especially with his team doing great so far.
