Hi guys ,just got the game and when RL allows really enjoying playing it.
I`m trying to get the Sprint Train working.I can seem to get the sprinter in the right place (near the line),but his Red Bar soon runs out for him to free-wheel over the line.
I`ve looked at the tips/video`s ,but how do I keep my sprinter fresh for the final sprint.
I`ve been getting him protected and in the Peleton nearish the front and on Maintain Position, making sure the heartrate doesn`t blink red, then getting his train up and around him and getting it going with about 18km to go.
We lead out and I cast leadout riders until it`s just him (Cav) and his Red Bar just burns up when I hit the Sprint Button.
Do you put the leadout guy on Sprint effort 99 (with Cav on Follow),then when the lead guy runs out of Red,put Cav on Sprint 99 effort?
Any advice and help very welcome. |

When are you going onto 99 effort? What effort and what are the other riders in the lead out doing? What stage in the season are in as well?

It's logical that the red bar runs out while sprinting, but you need to time the sprint so, that the red bar runs out/has just runned out at the finish. I advise getting the leadout to sprint at 1,8km, and let Cav sprint around 900-1000m.
Maybe you can 'leadout' the leadout for a short time. So 2nd leadout sprints 2200-1700m, Leadout sprints 1700-900m and after that Cav sprints... But it depends on the sort of finish, because the red bar will run out faster at a uphill sprint finish.
Btw. The effort bar hasn't got any effect while sprinting, you can see that because it's greyed out... So it doesn't matter if he sprints at effort 55 or effort 99...

Do you need to keep the Green Bar as high as possible throughout the race,ie does it have a baring on how quickly the Red Bar runs out? |

No, the only thing is that it may not run out, cause you will lose energy fast and can't do anything after that...
But it doesn't matter if the green bar is for 5% full or 90 % full, as long as it's not 0%. But the green bar will not run out fast... Only if the stamina value of the rider is very low or at long races(230km+)

Here is how I do my sprints in my story with Cav at HTC. It is on PCM11, but I think the principal is the same (unless I am corrected)
*******
Lead out train of Martin, Pate, Eisel, Renshaw, Cav
15km-12km to go: have all the riders follow each other respectively, and martin following one of the riders of another team relaying at the front. all effort set as 70
10km: martin goes on dot button and 80-85 effort so he is setting a slightly higher pace than the riders relaying at the front. all other riders in lead out still on 70 effort
10km-5km: adjust martin's effort to make sure the lead out train doesn't get swamped by the others or lose position. give martin a gel.
5km: As martin tires, pate is put on to 99 effort, given a gel, and dot button. He will take over from martin, upping the pace at the same time. rest of guys still on 70 effort.
3km: Eisel, Renshaw and Cav all go on 99 effort, given a gel, and aggressive sprinting. Eisel takes over from pate at the front on dot button.
3km-2km: Wait for the other teams to sprint before sprinting with Eisel.
2km-1km: Start sprint with Renshaw depending on how the other sprint rivals are going.
1km: Start sprint with cav and if all has gone to plan, get ready to celebrate!
*******
Hope this helps, and its transferable from PCM11 to PCM12

Thanks Jesleyh,
Another quick question if you don`t mind.
I presume that when you build your train it`s best to have the guys pretty much gathered together at the front of the Peleton, not scattered through out it?
When is it advised to take your Gel bar,I`m presume near the finish line, but during the leadout train?
Thanks again mate. |

Yeah, you should definitely position your riders near the front. Otherwise they'll waste energy moving up.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. From my experiences riders perform weaker compared to equally matched rivals if they have less green energy left. I don't have any statistics to back this up however, does anyone know more on this ? |

Really? I didn't notice that, but maybe your right, but I don't play the very long races that often...

The green bar is, indeed, a much important factor, since it applies to everything. It's definitely better to have a rider with 80% of green bar and half of yellow/red than 50% of green and full yellow/red. A easy comparison is, when you send a rider to a breakaway, he stays there working the whole day and then is caught near the end of the stage, you'll see he'll have a much higher heart rate compared to his team mates to just stay in the peloton. Sometimes the caught escapees will even need to drop from the P in the end of the stage.

Eat your energy bar at about 5K to go. |

Yup, forgot to say that, the Energy bar slows the speed of the red bar running out. But it works after +- 3km after you clicked it... (of course on mountain finish this is a shorter distance, because it's about time and not about km's)
