Problems with window mode after crash
JakobNielsen
Okay, my game crashed earlier to today. When i tried to open the game again, i got a message that the video graphics card (or something like that...) couldn't be idetified, and that standard preferences had ben reestablished (or something to that effect...). The game opened fine, but in full screen. When i went to the game prefernces to tick off the full screen option, it was already ticked off.

Anywho, i've tried to activate and deactivate full screen mode several times, but no matter what i do, the game keeps running in full screen mode.

I can't seem to find any topics that address the same problem. Does anyone know how to solve this? Playing in full screen really rubs me the wrong way.

Oh, and also, when i opened the game after the crash, my profiles were no where to be found, so i had to create a new profile. That's no problem, but maybe the info helps identifying the exact nature of the issue.

Never heard of that issue before, but you could try to delete the Config folder in My Docs/PCM. That will reset your settings and maybe fix your issue.

I just tried it, and it doesn't work.

When i delete the config folder, i get the same message once again when i open the game:

"The graphics auto-configuration utility was unable to identify your video card. Default settings were applied, but these may be changed via the options page..."

Could it be that the game automatically resets the settings everytime i open the game (even if this message does not show), thus forcing me to run the game in full screen? What strikes me as a little weird is that the full screen mode isn't enabled, even after i delete the config folder. Meaning that the full screen option isn't ticked off in the game. The game, of course, runs in full screen mode anyway.

Is it showing every time you run PCM?
I haved that too, but only the first time i run PCM.
I think your graphics card is a little weak, just like mine, Intel's graphics do suck alot.

Did you already restart your computer? If the problem continues after you started your computer again, I would install the game one more time.
Do it like this:
1. Uninstall the game
2. Remove the pcm12 folder from my documents
3. Remove the pcm12 folder in %appdata% *
3. Install the game
4. Install the latest patch: https://pcmdaily.c...hp?did=880
5. Try it
If it works you might install a DB or expansion pack.

* Remove the Roaming folder
1. Open Computer then Local Disk (C:).
2. Open Users folder.
3. Open your username folder.
4. Open AppData folder
5. Open Roaming folder.
6. Delete Pro Cycling Manager 2012 folder.
7. Run Pro Cycling Manager 2012.
Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default.
Here is how to make it visible:
Open the Folder Options by clicking the Start button and click Control Panel.
On the Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization and click Folder Options.
On the Folder Options, click on the View tab.
Under the Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders and click Ok.

HaRe: Yeah, my graphics card is weak, but i haven't had problems before. And no, it isn't showing everytime i open the game.

Lachi: I've tried restarting my computer. That does not help. I have considered reinstalling the game, but i'm a little shaky on the backup stuff. I don't want to lose my savegame. All i need to do is to move my save from the database folder and then paste it back in after the game is reinstalled, right? I already have the pcmdaily expansion pack installed.

I didn't understand a single thing of the part about removing the roaming folder and PCM 11.

Sorry I copied the official instructions from Cyanide. They wrote it for last years game but it is still valid. I changed 11 to 12 now. That part is the detailed explanation of the * just in case you don't know how to navigate to the %appdata% folder.

You do not need to backup your saves because it will not be deleted during uninstallation. But you said that you lost your profile, so didn't you lose your saves already?

In case you have not lost your saves, then point two in my description (2. Remove the pcm12 folder from my documents) would remove your saves also. But as long as you do not delete that folder you can always copy the save back to the new folder after the uninstall.

It does not matter if you have the expansion pack or not. You have to re-install it anyway after installing the game and patch.

Okay, thank you very much.

When i created the new profile i was able to load all of my previous games. Don't know how or why, but they were right there to load.

Lachi
OK, so I guess the problem is/was in the roaming folder. so try to delete that before you do anything else.

So I tried this two times. It didn't work. Very weird.

Man is this annoying. Is there no way to simply force the game to run in windowed mode?

You could try manually editing the resolution and if it's full screen in the .xml file "GraphicConfiguration" in My Docs/PCM12/Config (you can open and save the file with the notepad).

Hmm, I don't quite understand this? It says <Fullscreen>false</Fullscreen> in graphicconfigutation.

Lachi
write "true" instead of "false", then save

JakobNielsen
And then what?

When i open the game, it is in full screen. And when i try to activate the windowed mode in-game, it still runs in full screen the next time I open the game.

Lachi
It was just guessing: strange problem = strange solution.

But I might have found the problem. Turn off the intro-videos in the options.

JakobNielsen
Unfortunately that doesn't work either.

I tried opening PCM 2011, and there are no problems running that game i window mode.

Woe is me...

lluuiiggii
Did you also try changing the resolution?

JakobNielsen
Okay, I finally managed to solve this. I still don't fully understand, but here's what I did:

I tried to change the resolution several times. Initially this didn't do anything. But then i noticed that the game was write protected (?). When I removed the write protection AND changed the resolution, I finally managed to run the game in windowed mode.

I have no idea why this problem suddenly appeared, and why I the game suddenly won't run in any resolution. But I guess that doesn't matter now.

Thanks for all your help!

So i copied my previous savegame from a backup folder to the mydocs/pcm12/users/database/solo folder. I played the game for about an hour, only to find out that the PCM doesn't automatically save my game, and that I have to start from the same point everytime i load the game?

Did i do anything wrong? I made sure to install the latest patch and install the latest version of the pcmdaily expansion pack (which is what was installed before the reinstall) as the first thing before i dit anything else.

I also tried moving the entire mydocs/pcm12 folder (of which i made a backup before reinstalling the game) til mydocs, the only result being, that i once again was unable to play the game i windowed mode, even if i tried to solve the problem in the same way that worked earlier.

I guess i'll have to buy FIFA 13 tomorrow and forget about this no good piece of crap game for some time.

Lachi
I guess all the files you copied are write projected. The easiest way to solve this is to select the pcm12 folder in my document, then right-click and remove the write-protection. When asked, select the option to remove the write protection from all sub-folders and files.

I don't know why you made a backup of your files but the write protection must have happened then. For example if you burn the files to a CD or DVD, this would happen automatically.
