I see on this site there is a tips and tricks part, which I have been reading a bit. But I still seem to suck :-(
I'm riding as Christiana watches - a smallish team, yet I cant seem to win anything (except for a +5 form hill finish for Schumacher...
What advice would you give me as I try to learn the game? Is there some good guides or blogs I could read to learn more about how to make the most of Schumacher, Furlan and Rasmussen in my team?
thanks for any tips.

yeah, I got that much :-), but thats only the economics which I dislike - you can bury yourself in debt way too easily - compared to ie. Football manager it is very hard to figure out.
I guess there's no other way than to try and try again - maybe with better riders :-)

Imo, it's better to start with a PT team, with good riders. It's very hard to win with a small team. You'll get more used to the game with a strong team and then you can go to a smaller team. |

You have to drive in the front of the peloton/group with "hold position" between 85-95%. The important rider(Schumacher, Rassmussen, Furlan) has to protect from a other rider. I played in normal or hard mode and won some stages with Schumacher,Rassmussen and Furlan.
on hills:
- protect Schumacher as long as you can
- your reaction when favorites attack is your own decision;-)
- attack not to early and if yes only from the front of the peloton
on flat:
- sprint train is not helpful with this team
- protect Furlan as long as you can
- use the follow option to other strong sprinters(switch when is needed)
- when your energy (red and yellow bar) at the last 500 - 1000 meter is not empty sprint by yourself
on mountain
- protect Rassmussen as long as you can
- attack not to early and if yes only from the front of the peloton
- when energy is empty use the dot option-> to get the pulse under 180 beats. (this is tricky)
keep in mind: you have to drive in the front of the peloton/group "hold position" 85-95% |

and an easy way to learn is not playing career at once.
you could try smaller singel races first than classics and after that grand tours.
and then a career, this will help you understand how the AI responds on different conditions in game.
and the easiest way to learn is to start with a strong team like bmc or sky. |

No, there's two settings: one when you start a career (which is the financial aspect of the game, yes) and another one in the Options menu which defines the difficulty in 3D racing mode. |

If your using a custom team, I found a kind of trick way to be very good.
1- Sign good, not great riders (maybe 1 great) and enter smaller races. Stuff like the TDF shouldnt be a sponsor/goal with a team built this way.
2- Enter the races that are goals, along with stage races that are around 5 stages. As long as you have some decent climbers and hill guys...you should place well or even win a few.
3- Try to get sponsors that pay about 20k (USD) for high placings. Always choose the finish in top 10 with sponsors.
4- Use you money to buy gear EARLY in the year. Try to stay on the positive side, debt can be an huge issue if you over do it.
5- Spend NO money except for training after March.
If all goes well, and you picked decent riders. You should have enough money due to wins and sponsors to go after a top rider and maybe a couple very good workers. Then repeat this the following season. In 2 seasons, my team now has enough great riders and GC riders to enter and do well in almost all races.
Takes some work, but I went from a custom team that won very few races but did get alot of top 10 finishes. To a team that in its 3rd season has won the GIRO and TDF. It isnt a goal, but may even see if I can do well in the Valta.
Hope that helps some.

First, if your guide isn't for PCM12, don't post it in the the PCM12 forum. For example, the second sponsor things (mentioned in number 3) doesn't exist no longer in PCM11-12. Additionally, equipment has 0 effect on performance, so buying gear is throwing money away (and that in PCM10-12, and some editions earlier as well).
