I'm pretty new to his game, and just had a race which puzzled me a little. The stage had a flattish finish, but mountains in the firs half, so I sent my climbing domestique in the breakaway with the intention of getting the mountains jersey
All went to plan, and I found myself in a group of first three, then two. My guy had 62 SP, low ACC and 72 MO, the rider who is the reason I am making this post had 70+ SP and ACC but only 58 MO.
I took the first mountain sprint with the other chap 2nd, but couldn't ride away from the sprinter on two mountains with 10% gradients, and couldn't out sprint him to the points.
As it goes I got the mountains jersey by a point due to previous stages, but I'm confused as to why riding up the final 5km of a mountain on 83/84 effort didn't shake someone 14 MO rating less.
I lost the end of stage sprint as expected by a country mile, but just looking for advice on how I should have secured the mountain points by a wider margin. |

How was the stage classified? How was the form of the two riders in question?
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

My guy was +2, don't know about the other rider. I'm playing on hard which will make a small difference I guess
It was early February, but my rider had 7 days racing in his legs. Do AI riders start at similarly low fitness levels as human team riders? If not that might explain it a bit I guess |

Well, what was his fitness? I might be low since it was early in the season. The fitness of your riders early on mostly depends on luck; if had some guys starting Tour Down Under with 75 whilst others have only had 45-50.
I believe playing on hard gives the AI +1 when it comes to stats. How was the stage classified? Was it hilly, a mountain stage or flat?

You can't know the daily form of the other rider. However the actual fitness can be seen in the editor.
But the most important imo is the classification of the stage (flat, hilly or mountain). You say it was a stage with a flattish finish, meaning it's unlikely a mountain stage. In that case, most likely the stage was set so that the stat used when going uphill is HIL, not MO. Then the difference between your rider and the sprinter might be much smaller.

You can know the daily form. There is an observer featue by right click and the clicking on the magnifying glass for the rider.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I actually meant you can't know it in the editor, like the fitness.

I thought I had replied to this, but obviously not. It must have been the hill stat and not the mountain, as it was definitely a flat finish. Didn't realise that meant even the mountains were based on the hill stats (it was stage 2 of the etoile de besseges using the PCM 2012 DB for reference)
Thanks for the help! |

If you're new to the game, I advise you to play either on Easy or Normal, so you can get the feeling before you start with Hard or Extreme. Not much to add to what lluuiiggii said, so have fun!

I tried normal and found I was winning a little too often, so tried hard to learn a little more. Finding sprinting harder to control, but did just win the overall with Soler in the Besseges with a last stage breakaway! I had most of my riders 32 seconds down on the overall, so sent the least fit one in a breakaway to force the leaders team to chase, with the view to attack on the last but one hill with Soler, and if that failed go for a sprint stage win with Khalilov.
But Soler hung on for 2nd on the day, and won the overall by 24 seconds, but while I was concentrating on him, Khaliliov lost his lead out's wheel so was nowhere in the chasing pack.
And the guy I wanted to win the mountains jersey did so too as I sent him on another breakaway the next day just to be sure.
I know it's not the toughest race but I enjoyed it anyway! |
