Team Presentation
Originally founded in 1991, under the name Deutsche Telekom, HTC -Highroad is a Professional Cycling Team riding in the UCI WorldTour.
Under the guidance of managers Bob Stapleton and Rolf Aldag, HTC-Highroad has become one of the most successful team in the WorldTour peleton, with notable numerous stage victories at the 3 Grand Tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana), as well as the Milan-San Remo, the Spring Ardennes Classics and the Amgen Tour of California just to name a few.

2011 Key Riders - The Sprinters
A man who needs no introduction. The 'Manx Missile' Mark Cavendish has shot himself to glory in the last 4 years, with key victories on the big stage. Labelled the 'Fastest Man in the World' by the media, Cavendish took home the Vuelta a Espana Green Points Jersey in 2010, and also won the Milan - San Remo in 2009.
However, one big prize is still missing from Cavendish's ever growing CV, despite winning 15 stages in the last 3 years in the event. And that is the Tour de France Green Points Jersey. And no doubt, the question on everyones's lips when July comes around is 'Will this be the year that Cavendish wins the Jersey?'
Mark Renshaw, or 'Prince Harry' as he is known to his HTC teammates, is Cavendish's right hand man in the sprints. As a lead-out man for many years, firstly for Thor Hushovd before joining HTC-Highroad in 2008, the Aussie has been labelled the best in the business, but is an excellent sprinter in own right. He is a former World Champion on the Track, and has taken victories in the Tour of Denmark and Tour Down Under in his career.
2011 Key Riders - The Classics
Bernhard Eisel is a veteran in the Professional Peleton. Joining the team in 2007 as the Star Sprinter, he has turned his duties to domestique, playing a key part in the infamous HTC lead-out train in 2009 and 2010.
Over the years, he has also played a key role in the Cobbled Classics. He won the Gent - Wevelgem in 2010, and has Top 10 finishes in the Scheldeprijs, Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Paris–Roubaix on his list of recent Palmarés.
Along with Bernie Eisel, Matt Goss will lead the team in the Cobbled Races. Signed from Team CSC at the start of the 2010 season, the young 24 year-old Australian already has Top 3 finishes in the Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne, Paris–Brussels and Gent–Wevelgem on his list of Palmarés.
Along with the Cobbles, Goss will take up the role André Griepel has left following his departure to OmegaPharma-Lotto. Goss will lead the line in the sprints at the Giro d'Italia, and look to link up with Cavendish in the defense of the Vuelta a Espana Points Jersey.
2011 Key Riders - The GC Contenders
The main Time Trial man in the team, Tony Martin has become one of Fabian Cancellara's most reliable opponents in the discipline. Adding to that, his strength in the Hills and Mountains, Martin has become a strong rider in the Week-Long Stage Races. He will lead the team at the Paris-Nice and will look to compete against Cancellara in the Tour de France, and aim for a Top 15 finish. He will also be looking for a high finish at the World Championship in Copenhagen, following his 2010 Bronze medal in Melbourne.
Just like Tony Martin, Marco Pinotti has become a good Week-Long Stage Race rider over the recent years. Strong in the Time Trial, and also in the Mountains, Pinotti will lead the climbers at the Giro d'Italia, where a Top 10 finish will be the main aim. He will also look for high finishes in the Tour of Romandie and the Tirreno-Adriatico.
Seen as the new 'Kid of the Block', Tejay Van Garderen showed great promise over the 2010 season. Signed from the Rabobank Continental Team, Tejay performed superbly at Criterium du Dauphine, where he finished 3rd on the Overall GC, before high finishes at the Tour of Turkey and the Amgen Tour of California. These great results, combined with good form over the course of the season, landed Tejay a position on the Vuelta a Espana Team in his first season as a Pro.
Tejay will look to lead the squad again at the Vuelta, and also will look for a high finish in the Tour of California. The question, however, remains whether he will be given the chance to show his prowess at the Tour de France.

6th - 10th January 2011 - Australian National Championships
The first event of the year is the Australian National Championships, with the Time Trial on the 6th January and the Road Race 5 days later on the 10th January.
As we have no real Australian Time Trialists, following the departures of Michael Rogers and Adam Hansen to Sky ProCycling and OmegaPharma Lotto respectively, it will be in the Road Race where we will look for honours.
Matt Goss will lead the team, and will have both Renshaw and Leigh Howard as help. We will look to put someone in a break should one appear in the race, but who that will be precisely is still undecided

6th January 2011 - Australian National TT Championships
The 2011 Australian National Time Trial Championship is set in Learmonth, a small town located to the north of Melbourne, Victoria.
Seen as a relatively flat course, it will be the rider with the best early season fitness who will take home the Green and Gold Hooped Jersey, and there will be a large number of riders with the eye on the prize.
Garmin-Cervélo come into the event with four time trial specialist, and it will be huge disappointment for the team if they do not come away with at least a podium finish.
Sky ProCycling signed Michael Rogers in the close season from HTC-Highroad, and he will be looking for a good performance today, and the same can be said for BMC's Cadel Evans and Richie Porte of Saxobank-Sungard.

6th January 2011 - Australian National TT Championships
Porte shows class to take home the win
SaxoBank-Sungard's Richie Porte today became the 2011 Australian Time Trial Champion for the First Time in his short Cycling Career, with an impressive ride in a rain soaked Learmonth.
Completing the 38km course in just 55'56", Porte was 7" quicker than second placed Cadel Evans and 17" ahead of defending Time Trial Champion Cameron Meyer of Garmin-Cervélo.
The early pace was set by the Garmin team, with first Brett Lancaster setting a time of 56'41", before Heinrich Haussler went 21" quicker with a time of 56'20".
The time of Haussler looked under threat when Jack Bobridge hit the course, but a slow run-in to the finish cost Bobridge dearly, and 11th place was the best he could settle for.
Defending Champion Cameron Meyer, again riding for Garmin-Cervélo, blasted through the finishing, knocking Haussler off top spot with a time of 56'13". With pre-race favourites like Michael Rogers and Adam Hansen unable to better Meyer's time, there was just Porte and Evans left out on the course that could deny Meyer a second consecutive title. And it was Porte who broke the young Aussie's heart, relegating him to the Silver medal position, before Evans pushed him further down to third.
But the day belonged to Porte, who burst onto the scene last year with impressive Time Trial performances at the Tour of Romandie and World Championship, as well as a 7th Place on the Giro d'Italia General Classification, who shows good early form and fitness to take the win, and the chance to wear the Green and Gold Hooped Jersey for the Season.

9th January 2011 - HTC-Highroad add German All-Rounder to their squad
Today we are delighted to announce the signing of the German rider Markus Fothen.
Signing as a free agent following the collapse of Team Milram, the former Under-23 World Time Trial Champion will fill the gap left by Adam Hansen in the HTC-Highroad lead-out train, as well as working as a domestique in the Mountains.
With Palmarés including Top 15 finishes on GC in the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, and Top 10 GC finishes at the Tour Down Under, Tour de Suisse and Tirreno-Adriatico, the 29 year-old has revealed that he will be looking to push forward with HTC-Highroad and put the problems of Milram well and truly behind him
