Damn, Manninen gave everything he had, not bad for a guy with 65 mtn/66hill Always sad to lose the yellow jersey but can't complain given that it's a puncheur stage race (although not every puncheur seems to have realized it yet). Now it'll be very interesting to see whether Manninen will 1) hold on on the penultimate hill tomorrow and if he does 2) see if the time gaps are not given like in the previous stage. If he drops on the penultimate hill he could drop heavily in the GC, if not he can still score some nice GC points as well.
Except for Manninen I haven't had a single rider in any top-100 of a stage yet. That perfectly explains Los Pollos Hermanos I suppose
Congratulations to Team UBS and thanks for another great report!

Ok so Ewan's a bust for this race (one of his best suited races of the year :\
But forget him, he's old news. Alex Mayer! Damn, impressive for an un-maxed rookie! If we can hang onto 6th GC + U25 he'll have done a top job saving this race for us. This is exactly the kind of race design we want him for in the future so this is a very welcome positive note to an overall downbeat opening Aussie tour.

Missing the split is tough... not at all confident with Willunga based on that one now
Well done UBS and thanks for the report

Give me strength McCarthy! The race had promise coming into this stage and now it feels difficult to salvage even a top 10 here then. Willunga will decide things but I can only hope McCarthy makes the top split this time. Cullaigh will drop away but hopefully he can still stay relevant in the stanfings as well.
Manninen is just super strong but realistically a top 10 is the only thing he can hope for

Surprised in a negative way we don’t have any rider in the group at 43 seconds. At this pace, we are struggling a lot to find our feet in the PCT.
This looks to be a race without any points for us. We need to get involved in the finishes. After all, we should be able to put riders up there in the positioning before the final few kilometers on such stages, looking at who we brought here. Several of them are strong rouleurs. Really hope they start using their abilities |

Not ideal. Losing u25 to some scrub is not ideal. Hoping for a decent top 20 stage from Betancourt and then winning the sprint (2nd place)

Man, cannot believe MVS doesn't put that away at the end with his sprinting stats...
At least its better than the first few stages, and very nice to see Bakelandts super active on Stage 3, makes me less nervous about his performances specifically... although if MVS continues like this it probably won't matter |

Expectedly we have a pretty quiet day. Very interesting way for it to play out, with the puncheurs being active but the sprinters trying to stay up front as well. Probably a good thing.
AKA survives in the first peloton somehow, but he has no chance to maintain a GC spot on Wilunga, so probably more just a waste of energy. Nevertheless, nice to see him continue to be in good shape.
Best of luck to everyone on Wilunga!

Good to see Van Garderen getting stuck in, and putting himself in a strong position ahead of Willunga.

Ponzi! Great start so far, but I know he is not a clear favorite on the Willunga stage. Hopefully being in yellow will give him a needed boost. Promising start to the year for him, I hope he can keep this up.
Thanks for the reports roturn.

Loving the aggression from TJ to make the first move and still be 5th on the stage, hopefully it's a good sign of things to come throughout the season.

Congrats to Bushwackers, your promotion mission seems to be off to a great start
Reinhardt finally wins a sprint - unfortunately, it's only for 10th and therefore absolutely pointless (literally speaking).
I'm already as disappointed by PCM 20 as I was with PCM 18 in terms of breakaways. I've got two 77 Ftr stat riders, and none of them cares, despite this being THE stage where they'd have had a chance to succeed. Instead, a young African has to show them how it's done... There's no logic whatsoever in this stuff - either you're lucky or you're not. Well, I guess let's check this race off and move onto the next. Not that I could have had realistic GC chances, but if you bring perfect breakaway riders and none of them cares, it's really frustrating. Sorry.

Strong showing from Borges so far. Just a shame Ponzi is here to spoil the party for us. The KoM jersey and 3rd place is actually a solid result! Excited to see what's in store for Willunga now.
Congrats to UBS!

Edmondson losing time today Not good but hoping for a good showing of top 10s in the last few stages. They are definitely capable of such results!

Well... damn. One race goal in the bin, probably (read: hopefully) kicking myself for not choosing some other races for Skujins to win later in the season. A stage win tomorrow is the only way to salvage something from this, but my hopes aren't high. |

Bilbao showing some intent, a top 10 from him would be great.

I'm glad this race is almost over. Absolute dogshite performace from my team.

It's far too early to make conclusions, but so far it seems to be very difficult for breakaway riders and puncheurs to make an actual effect on the races.
Very limited differences, hardly any attacks and riders with a significant quality gap performing very similar.
I feel content that this will change throughout the season, but so far it seems like a good idea to have a puncheur with a good sprint, rather than a puncheur with a strong ability in attacks. For a team that have both I guess I won't be hit the hardest, but had I gone all in on van Niekerk I might have come to regret that soon enough.
Let's see what happens. So far it has been very close together in all races atleast.
