Tirreno - Adriatico Discussion
Fabianski
Well, reporting is actually quite fun, but the (too) often lame AI ruins some of it. I was especially disappointed by the lack of action on both hilly stages. The first mountain stage wasn't too promising anyway, given the profile, but at least some "outsiders" could have tried something.

And the last stage with Coquard's inexplicable behavior wasn't great, either. I hope there will be "better" races to report, races where the leader will actually be attacked. However, I can't really say yet how much is due to the AI, and how much is just given by the profiles. I guess the hilly stages were too easy to have serious attacks.

Congrats to Puma & Herklotz and to all other winners.

Meh... dissapointing stuff in the end from Coquard. 4th definately isn’t good enough against random sprinters...

Two stagewins, 2nd points and 5th GC is Okay though...

Thanks for great reports!

So the sprint AI on PCM18 seems to be consistently poor, and this is gonna seriously f*ck me, but....

THE WORST CLIMBING TEAM IN THE PT JUST WON A DAMN KOM!!!!

Satisfied with the final GC here. 6th place ain't special, but at least it's solid for Morton, as this one decisive mountain stage could have went worse. Smith adding a solid Top-25 and the team winning the team's classification is a nice bonus, that I gladly take.

Thanks for the great reports and effort, you put into this! Also congrats to all winners. Herklotz doing, what he will do for so many times in the future.

Wow Nizzolo Banana That was incredibly surprising to say the least. If only Gonzalez Salas could have done a decent prologue, this race would have been almost impossible to better.

So this is our first ever Pro Tour stage win Grin Grin Grin We are really on a run since East Java disappointment, so both Tirreno and Omloop unexpected results will surely help a lot

Scully Shock That's a proper surprise. Clearly he must have felt the pressure from the fans after we failed in a bad way with Taaramäe here. Great result by our Kiwi!

For Taaramäe, fourth wasn't what we came for, it really wasn't. Hopefully the GT he does proves to be more selective on the difficult stages, with him being among those to take advantage from it. Not sure how the team and sort of lack of support deep on the Queen stage affected him here, but there won't be any excuses later, looking at who he'll be joined by later this season.

Congratulations to both Aquarius on the surprise stage win, and of course cio on the overall win. No surprise to see Herklotz winning, I just hoped Taaramäe at least would have tried to make him fight for it Pfft

Quite happy with the results here, Guldhammer tried a bit too much on one stage and could've ended higher in the GC. But I like the spirit. Bodes well for the rest of the season

5th is not what I was hoping on the final stage but nice to see former rider Nizzoloe taking a surprise win here.

In general a fine race by my riders, Groenewegen not as strong on the flat but taking the stage win on the hillier finish was nice.

Then depth played out nicely. 15th for Velits was all I could have expected here. Sure, Kruijswijk, Yates could have been beaten on a better day but fair enough. Dekker in 19th above expectations plus his solid TT while Keinath in 25th is also decent even though had expected later two to be in swapped order.

A bit missing maybe the breakaway attempt by one of them in the mountain stages.

3rd in team some small extra points.

Thanks for the great reports and congrats to cio as Herklotz is already showing great strength here against the 84/85 climbers behind him while also Lecuisinier is up there to repeat his GT podium I guess.

4 of 4! Cool

Thank you to everyone who congratulated so far (and actually meant it Pfft), thank you to Fabianski for the good reporting on what I second to have been not the the greatest race in terms of top end action.

There are no more words that can sufficiently describe Herklotz even on this version of the game, that was an extremely effective and calculated performance all the way through, not giving up time to anyone on the undulating stages (while showing off his sprint and positioning skills rather well), and then using his superior GC position to get into the comfortable position of only having to counter the attacks on the queen stage and save enough energy to ride away in the end.

An additional bonus is the sprint jersey (which was more down to Coquard AI tbh), while we happily concede the KoM jersey to a deserving attacker! Enjoy that one TMM.

Together with the expected U25 jersey, that sees Herklotz alone score nearly 500 points here by my calculations. A good start into the important part of our season, with two spring goals still to come rather soon.
And even if we only fight for race podiums from now on and don't come anywhere close to the PT lead ever again, we can already call this season a success!

Yuriy Vasyliv came back from that unnecessary time loss in the early split to be a loyal servant to Silvio when it mattered the most and managed to climb back up to 40th in the GC.
And the surprise of the race, just as in China earlier, was again Yikui Niu! 50th overall and 6th in the U25 classification is just amazing for a 73mo rider protecting the race leader, that's 7 points above the minimum that he absolutely deserves for this performance.

The rest of the team was less visible, but they are invited to the celebrations just the same.
We can already disclose that four of the riders present here will also support Herklotz in his GT, so it was good practice even when it wasn't flashy.

I can't wait to find out how the opposition has planned their revenge next time Smile

Lecuisinier never finished on the podium of a GT Roturn :-)

Congratz to Aquarius97 and off course also cio dominating the race taking a huge shipload of points.

As a wildcard team we did great in the GC was a lot of fun.

Not good enough to be honest. Only missing out on a top 10 result overall is definitely not a plus race for us. At least Soupe surprisingly helped to save the race for us a little bit thanks to some decent stage results. There are surely better races coming for us though.

Thanks for really nice reports and congrats to Puma. Herklotz is a beast.

Very disappointing race. So little action by Lopez and Vosekalns is a major disappointment and i don't really want to comment on that further.

Congrats to cio (and yes, i really mean that too. There is no chance i will have finish ahead of you this year so i might as well enjoy Herklotz winning this)

Thanks for the quality reports. I struggled to enjoy the reports but it had nothing to do with the quality of the reports. They were great!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Decent sprints by Samolenkov and Foliforov getting in the BotD at stage 6 was fun. Too bad the whole team lost contact with the peloton during stage 3, but overall an enjoyable Tirreno nonetheless!

Thanks again Fabianski for the reports.
